Tiers for Killer Instinct launched on EventHubs

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • April 23, 2014 at 5:56 p.m. PDT

TheUncharted and the rest of the EHubs crew have launched another game for our tiers app, Killer Instinct.

Now users have the ability to vote on each of the game's match ups, plus there are new discussion areas where you can talk about each of the bouts. The listing includes the latest playable characters, Fulgore and Spinal.

If you're knowledgeable about Killer Instinct, please get in there and vote on the match ups you're familiar with.

Keep in mind this section updates once an hour, so keep checking back to see how the tiers are taking shape.

When a tier section is first launched, just a few votes can have a drastic impact on how the list shakes out, but over time the picture gets much more defined and normalized.

We'll have tiers for another new game launched in the near future, usually every four or five days. Stay tuned.

If we made a tier list of this, every character would have their own tier.

just out of curiosity, is the first tiers coming up all based on the EVO line-up?

I feel like there's gonna be a lot of salt in this one. Some doof already voted 10-0 match-ups. No match in this game is worse than 6-4, IMO.

Mostly based on which games are the most popular in the tournament scene currently, mostly.

UMvC3, and all assist based games, have a unique approach to tiers that we're working on behind the scenes based on feedback from our readers, so any games with assists in them are likely a longer ways off than the others.

If everything goes to plan, TTT2 will be the next game we push out.

Trying to show love to all of the different genres before we circle back to more Capcom games.

Fairly soon, yes. SFxT is probably going to be in the next 4-5 games or so that we launch.

There's a couple more genres we want to hit before we get more Capcom games up, but it won't be too long before everything is launched.

I see, that clears up a lot i was very curious for how assist based games would be like as well, thanks for answering :)

We ran a story asking our readers for feedback on how to do assist-based games.

A few users suggested really intelligent stuff, if you take a look at AugustAPC and DrewGrimey's comments, you'll see the direction we're headed with our listings for UMvC3 and other assist based games.

Looking at the date of the article I just linked up... wow... hard to believe we've been working on tiers for almost a year now.

We were just in the planning stages and outlining everything back then, but when systems are very intricate with a lot of moving pieces, it can take awhile to get them off the ground.

How the time flies...

Also, just another example of how reader feedback can shape the website. The rating system we're using came heavily from AugustAPC and DremGrimey's comments.

Many of the features we've added and developed have been at least partially influenced by our reader's requests and thoughts through the years.

We're definitely not able to implement every idea/suggestion, but we do check them out and think about what's feasible for us going forward.

I played this based on my friend's system... and from my two times playing, I was beating him with Saberwulf. This coming whom had to learn while I was playing against him, so I say the image matches who is on top of this game.

Agreed these tiers are going to be trolled.

Don't worry, it doesn't take long for our system to throw out votes like that.

As our system detects problem users, they're sometimes banned, or their troll votes are just outright ignored.

I feel like Killer Instinct is a really balanced game, so tiers don't really apply here like Street Fighter IV for example. Every character has potential, some are just harder to master than others. The only ranking I can see being made for Killer Instinct is a "character popularity" one, you know, the "What do you think is the most used character in KI" etc., but ... tiers ... doesn't seem right for this game.

I agree. The worst matchup is probably still only 5.5 : 4.5.

Great job with the tiers function guys, really like it! One quick typo "please get in there and vote on the match *us* you're familiar with." GIVE THUNDER A GUN
