#9
Paradonyx said on April 4, 2014 at 7:12 p.m.

I know you're biased when it comes to hating on Skullgirls, and while that statement may be true, there is no way that Skullgirls has less participants than SSF2, Accent Core, and games of similar stature.

Personally, I just find it weird how almost every relevant fighting game is listed above, except Skullgirls. Its just feels like something's amiss, that's all.

Ouch. That sucks. Though I hate to admit it, the fault does fall on the Skullgirls community in that area.

Man, I hate living in New Jersey. Barely any professional tournaments are held here.

BossDynamite said on April 5, 2014 at 5:29 a.m.

You're delusional if you think Skullgirls has the fan base and HISTORY of SSF2. Nobody plays the damn game because there's 3 damn versions of it on 3 platforms, not everybody has access to the PC version, so how fair is it to have a tourney where some are gonna either play a version they never played or people are gonna have to downgrade which ain't happening. Stop being a damn fanboy and use your brain, common sense and logic to answer your own question because the answer is in your face and stop looking at Capcom to blame for your communities lack of support. It doesn't matter if 20,000 people wanna see it if you can't get 10 people to even participate in a damn tournament.

You won't find many Skullgirls tournaments anywhere. The offline community support for that game is abysmal. By last year's embarrassment, Duckie means they couldn't get 8 people to sign up, so they had to run an exhibition.

For those that don't know, Perfect Legend said a few months ago that he was looking to get back into sf4, and wanted to level up his game to the point where he could compete at the highest level (paraphrasing). Although, I don't know how far along he's come. The article about it is on another site.

I look when I have time, though my only 100% free day is Sunday. I'm in college, and work 4-5 days a week, so I actually, you know, have RESPONSIBILITIES, unlike some people here who just bum around and do nothing all day.

I'm from the Orlando CEO scene and the skullgirls scene is dead. I used to be an active player but it's near impossible to find over 20 people to come out to tournaments. The game had low turn outs at nearly every major since the game's release, that TO's had had to stop running the game as an official game. On a national level (North America), the game still has a low competitive population. Skullgirls is one of the games I love but this game is dead outside of Evo.

I really tip my hats off to the smash community for putting in serious work and putting their scene on the map. Smash is reviving and becoming a part of many fg majors across the country. Meanwhile skullgirls can't get the turn out numbers they need. I believe this is due to the amount of casuals that are reluctant to come out for various reasons. If you go to a tournament that includes smash, their numbers are very impressive AND the casuals are coming out as well to help out their game.

This is coming from someone involved on multiple scenes, but skullgirls as a community is very small and can be considered dead by many (which partly includes myself).

#57
Alltimefox said on April 6, 2014 at 6:09 a.m.

Justin is probably the best American player for the old street fighter games. He needs that prowess more in Street Fighter 4!

Justin and Tokido have to be the two best "overall" players in the FGC. They both have a crazy ability to play just about any fighting game and be competitive.

Skullgirls was there, it was a side tournament set up the day before the event started, and it happened last night. It wasn't streamed. Not a whole lot of entrants but was fun. I was moving back and forth from it and BB so I can't remember everyone's name but I'll try to find the bracket if I can.

Lol at Justin winning every old fighter. I said it before and I'll say it again. Justin's fundamentals >>>>> everyone else.

#65
KingKong said on April 6, 2014 at 8:43 a.m.

I gotta say, the KI tournament is really entertaining, this game looks so dynamic at high level.

Anyway those "fight title completed" messages that keep poppin up every 2 seconds are the most annoying thing I've ever seen. WTF is up with that.

#66
JIHADJOE said on April 6, 2014 at 9:38 a.m.

Crazy thing is, as good as he is in the old SFs, he's even better in MvC2.

PR Balrog's Orchid is so awesome to watch.

#68

#71
bananainsaneface said on April 6, 2014 at 1:02 p.m.

Can someone explain what James Chen did? I can't watch the stream right now but he keeps crying about it on twitter. Apparently he said something really bad on stream.

#72
bananainsaneface said on April 6, 2014 at 1:04 p.m.

As far as fundamentals Tokido's footsies are not very good he even said this himself. Justin has the best footsies in the game. He out footsies Daigo's Ryu with Rufus and Rufus has terrible normals compared to Ryu.

#73
spotlesseden said on April 6, 2014 at 1:46 p.m.

fundamentals is not about footsies. If footsies is the most important fundamental, but tokido is still better at those games, then what does that mean?
What is footsies, it's jut pokes. I never see J wong w out footsis daigo. Give me a vid. Divekick is not out footies other people. lol

#74
Taateflaske said on April 6, 2014 at 1:59 p.m.

He referred to Taskmaster as a DC character. It was pretty embarrassing.

#75
Snow said on April 6, 2014 at 2:52 p.m.

So... Capcom didn't bring the Dicapre build to this torny... there's no way they'll have enough time or data to properly balance here before the game launches in late June since they realistically only have April and May to do any changes.

#76

#81

Arcade version will not include Decapre at first so she will get added into the arcade releases probably around the same time as USFIV's debut on consoles

#82
Gotomaster said on April 6, 2014 at 5:51 p.m.

Ugh, that last match between Rog and Kbrad was just bad play from both.

#83
RagerDaPrince_EH said on April 6, 2014 at 6:09 p.m.

Sucks archives are sub only

#84
kaeshi said on April 6, 2014 at 6:31 p.m.

aye, but at least rog tried some decent combos and displayed a bit of skill. Kbrad drops easy cammy combos but gets to scab wins anyway. Getting sponsored when eeking out wins with cammy is just gonna perpetuate people taking the easy road.

Least sako doesnt play her any more, probably has more respect for himself and actually displayed good execution when he did.

#85
Gotomaster said on April 6, 2014 at 7 p.m.

Dang, that crowd emptied up quick after Camel's loss.

#86
evo546 said on April 6, 2014 at 7:03 p.m.

3 EG guys not much hype :((

#87
Zanpakto said on April 6, 2014 at 7:09 p.m.

Damn texas why u so salty that u have to hurt the scene leaving before grand finals :(

#88
evo546 said on April 6, 2014 at 7:09 p.m.

And Justin took 1st, Rog 2nd, kbrad 3rd. Rog need more pratice if he want to do well in Topanga World League.

#89
DunnDeal said on April 6, 2014 at 7:11 p.m.

AE grand finals were not hype. It's like Rog just gave that up

#90
SuperRoadFighter said on April 6, 2014 at 7:11 p.m.

So attempting and failing "decent combos" is displaying skill. There is no easy road to getting sponsored, if there was why aren't you? Are you saying you choosing to play crappy characters on purpose takes more skill and you are taking the hard road to get sponsored?

Sako did not drop Cammy because he thought she was a good character and had too much respect for himself to keep using a good character.

Quit making baseless assumptions.

Btw Kbrad is a better player and has more skill than you.

#91
evo546 said on April 6, 2014 at 7:14 p.m.

Agree. It was really bad grand final.

#92
AugustAPC said on April 6, 2014 at 7:15 p.m.

JWong show starring JWong

#95
kaeshi said on April 6, 2014 at 7:27 p.m.

He surely does as I am average at best. He still does not deserve the wins he has got. He relies on flow chart cammy bull and prays opponent makes wrong guesses else loses. No consistency like other tournament winners like xian/infiltration that dominate for long periods. He just scabs out a win here or there. Other cammy players do it too like popi did the once, or xaio hai.

#96
AugustAPC said on April 6, 2014 at 7:34 p.m.

Stop acting like a bitch over Cammy. KBrad deserves his wins.

#97
gaming99 said on April 6, 2014 at 7:39 p.m.

This is why Street Fighter is still interesting to watch.
Top three in every tournament always change everytime, even more often than mahvel which basically getting stale, and boring to watch with that zoop zoop, soul fist, and vergil.

I am pretty sure nobody expect Justin would win SF, but he did.

Next...topanga league!

#98
MRN_SirFoxington said on April 6, 2014 at 7:58 p.m.

Iam deeply traumatized by this event for not doing USF4 exhibitions ! Besides the ssf4 ae matches i was up late just for USF4 !

They couldve just announced that they wont do it,seriously.

#99
Focusflute said on April 6, 2014 at 8:11 p.m.

That KI hype during pools and Top 8 was immense! During SF top 32 was like golf claps at best. We need hype for ALL games!!!!
