Project EF-12 is a free game engine, which somewhat resembles 3D fighters like Virtua Fighter and Tekken, but there's a twist on this one that's unlike many others, outside of MUGEN.
Here's the trailer for the game, in Japanese.

Let's make some Hajime no Ippo right here !
gonna get this. and i'm going to make the most balanced game there is! to the notebook!
here goes to saltybets upgrading and now getting 20,000 viewers daily
Nice someone much more talented that I will make a new EX+ SF game which will be a dope mod for sure. I def want to get my hands on this and see what possibilities they are.
This looks awesome. Maybe Harada can use this as his base for Tekken x Street Fighter.
THE FUTURE! Taking out every fighting game franchise one at a time.
considering you can already rip fully rigged models from Soul Calibur, Tekken, SF4, etc... this will definitely be the next gen Mugen.
although keep in mind it is possible to pull rigged models and textures out of games currently... the animation files are another story and will likely pose the biggest problem in trying to import characters into this engine
This looks really awesome actually especially on a casual level although maybe people will make full standalone free games with it.
Cool 3d mugen sounds good to me and if we can make cut scenes, even better. The possibilities..

Yes! I've been waiting for something like this years and it's finally here! Well, sort of.
Apparently, you can use Blender and Maya to import your models and animations to this 3D engine. Over at DeviantArt, they're ripping 3D models from games like Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive etc. and releasing them to the public. I'm sure this thing is going to get real popular when this thing is released in english.
gotta learn how to make 3d models ahead of time. gotta stay ahead of the game.
Free? Something this good? Can't wait to see what happens in months to come!
Make your own top tier character. Still complain.
So, who's gonna do a Spiritual Successor of Killer Instinct with this engine? And I wonder if someone will actually add the Salmon from Tekken. All I know is that, inevitably in most future resource websites for this engine, there will be an oversaturation of Shotoclones, Kancho Men, "Chuck Norrises", and 1-move-wonder characters. Somebody should start doing some rules and reglations for handling quality control in those sites.
Say, if thi becomes the biggest thing in the FGC, should there be a section for it in this site?
I just checked a few sites about EF-12. Among them, Joystiq. And in an interview with the creator about the engine, he and his team are apparently working on localizing it to Steam! I mean, if I heard the interview corectly. It will still be free, of course!
ShiroiKaze is right... i love mugen, but most of the comunity in in the emulation side of the engine, ripping models and trying to be as acurate to the source game as possible, and there's not much original content, but when there is, it's awesome. for a while a taught that a 3d mugen wouldn't work for the hard, almost impossible work to get 3d models, but lately, it's been increasingly easy. this could be AWESOME!.
Not that I will be able to use it as a Mac user but it would be nice to rig Soulcalibur V Custom Characters for this and maybe give them different movesets. Ring outs and fatalities would be okay too but that's asking for too much.
Hi guys,
Nayan from Playism (publisher of EF-12) here! Hopefully I can clear up a few things.
SpellcraftQuill: Ringouts are already in the game, and can be changed when you create your own stage. If you look in the video, you'll notice a red ring on the ground around the characters. That is the ringout border.
Yarott: We at Playism are doing the localization, and would love to put it on Steam. It's not happening just yet, though (we're working on it!). In the meantime, though, the game will release on Playism (playism-games.com) with English manuals.
Hope that clears things up.
where can i download this cuz i can't find it on playism??
found the link for anyone who is interested

Coincidentally I'm also working on a fighting game engine similar to mugen, but mine is a lot more "2.5D":

I made an Oreimo fighting game with this at TGS. Kirino is OP.
MSRP: $10 or free if you disable AdBlock.
Sounds like someone's going to create another MK Project using the EF-12 engine...
@YTPHaruko
I looked in the files and some of the default characters do have voices but only for attacks and damage. I'm thinking that win or opening voices may be available. Hopefully custom SCV characters can be rigged and given their own moves.
ive been messing around with this over the weekend and have ran into a rather large roadblock...
the first thing i was testing was how easy it would be to constrain movement on the Z axis (since i enjoy 2d fighters more than 3d). Maybe someone can explain to me how i can modify a preexisting .fmot files (the motion files). I really hope the only way to create/mod these files is NOT by creating existing .xsi files, uploading them to c.ef-12.com/entry then gettin the .fmot file sent back to me in an email, there may be something i am missing since i do not speak japanese. Thank you in advance
