Back in June, we reported on an Amazon listing that sprung up for the Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia. This hardcover book features 208 pages that covers all the major Capcom characters, including artwork, statistics and more.

Yoshinori Ono recently tweeted out a couple of images showing off this character encyclopedia, one of which giving a quick glimpse of the inside. We get to see the pages for Ryu from Breath of Fire and Street Fighter's Ryu as well.

Good choices for the characters who made the cover. Just glad there's a prominent Resident Evil representation, and a strong female character for that. Of course it was going to be Ryu from Street Fighter. :\

I feel insulted at the fact that, after everything that's happened, they put Mega Man on the cover... Yeah, he's good enough to sell the crowd things but not enough to get a game *rolls eyes*

Well at least Inafune is giving the Megaman fans what they want.

He's gotten quite a few over the last 10 years.

Blame the fans who hardly bought any of them, outside of MM9.

Besides, if they did release a new one, it'd be nothing but bitching, moaning, and crying. The MM fanbase reached Sonic fanbase levels of bad a long time ago.

Then some of the Capcom employees (including combofiend) would "magically" disappear. Lol

Then Zero from metal gear 3 would come out and say, "you've created a time paradox!" So let's hope that toy don't disappear.lol

HatlessFool said on September 6, 2013 at 3:41 p.m.

@17 and if he wasn't on the cover you'd be just as upset. That's why Mega Man fans are so annoying. He gets a skin and appearance in UMvC3? Let's whine and call it a slap in the face. If he had no appearance or skin you'd be just as upset. There's no pleasing you, even when they do release Megaman games you don't even buy them.

RonnieTheClownPrince said on September 6, 2013 at 6:08 p.m.

@23: Because #17 is the entire Mega Man fandom all by themself, right? There's a lot of annoying people in the fandom, but not all of them are like that. Having a Mega Man as a skin instead of a character in UMvC3 was still BS, though. If Dr. Doom, Magneto, or Sentinel were just skins instead of characters, you can bet fans of those characters would have been pissed, too.

#30
RonnieTheClownPrince said on September 6, 2013 at 6:10 p.m.

Also, I'm glad that Mega Man is on the cover, as he should be. Anyone that complains about that is just being an idiot.

While both MM and Sonic factions get some semblance of their characters in the gaming media(MM in Smash Bros-MMZ Collection just a few years back and MMXSF and Sonic is getting a new game soon),some franchises are just halted or forgotten.

Case in point:Prince of Persia.It's been a while (3 years) since the last title.Did the internet went to hell when they announced they are not planning a POP for the new generation? No.....

MM is on a cover of the ANNIVERSARY ENCYCLOPEDIA:Capcom is trolling,CRUEL BASTARDS! >:O You guys are giving yourselves a bad name.Want a MegaMan game? Support Inafune and put your money where your mouth is....

Capcom is giving MM a breather because the franchise was losing steam.It's normal and valid.....give them time.They must be losing their minds with the amount of dough,Comcept and Inafune are getting for M9.They will roll with something soon enough....

#35
ZenTzen said on September 6, 2013 at 10:14 p.m.

@35
MM losing steam? what a load of bull, havent you seen the MML3 backlash, and if anything it has been shown that people wanted a freaking MM game, case inpoint the Inafune MNº9 Kickstarter, and its being shown that fans are putting money where their mouths are, MM already had time for a breather and the MML3 cancellation was one of the stupidest things they did this generation, that game was pratically a 3ds system seller and that franchise is pratically dead at this point, maybe when they restart MML3 development that'll change, its not with a smash appearance of MM that assures us that MM isnt dead, its just some vain hope on the future of the IP

#36
NoizyChild said on September 6, 2013 at 11:36 p.m.

#36

He's right, though.

MM9 sold well. MM10 didn't.

MML3 wasn't even close to being completed. Capcom let fans have a say in the development process, but when things didn't go as planned, they scrapped the game.

MMU was going to be hot trash.

The fans whined about SFxMM, even though it was FREE.

At this point, Capcom knows that the MM fanbase is mostly ungrateful, whiny children that won't be satisfied, no matter what Capcom does to the game.

Like I said, they're Sonic fanbase levels of bad.

#39
ZenTzen said on September 7, 2013 at 4:53 a.m.

@37
MM10 didnt sell because it was the same thing again, a old style MM without any improvements that came from later games, MMUs cancellation didnt surprise me, i definetly agree with that, but speaking of MML3s cancellation was a load of bull, so what exactly didnt go as planned, the Devroom was literally one of the most active places on capcom-unity theres was loads of people participating there, both the US and JP devrooms, MML3 was pratically a guaranteed #DS system seller.

So dont give me that bull about the MM fanbase being ungrateful and whiney, because if anything the fgc is the freaking same and if anything it has been shown that complaining about the bull these companys pull is what makes real changes instead of being complacent and just going with the flow.

you can hate the original BOF, it took a very heavy handed approach to story telling and dragged on a lot. It is my least favorite. I mean I'm pretty sure you aren't running our buying the original Street fighter because it started it all before SF2.

Also, most people just don't get BOF V, its a story about feeling isolated, hopless and scared.... being a dragon was a curse, and the game does a good job making you feel that with the dragon counter. Then there was not enough items, or places to grind, few save tokens and 1 save file so you can't cheat... damn that game was rough, but the ending makes it so satisfying.... So. Damn. Good.

Also BOF VI is coming to iphone... saw it on Magic Box.

HatlessFool: "@2 Why wouldn't it be Ryu? He is the mascot."

Ryu is not a mascot. He is a playable character and common choice. It is not especially interesting to choose only him to represent Street Fighter, as he is such a basic design, and arguably less memorable than, say, Chun Li or Dhalsim. We got Jill instead of Chris or Leon, and Morrigan instead of Donovan, so it obviously could have been Chun or someone else from SF.

However, I didn't say any reason it "wouldn't be" Ryu. I said the EXACT OPPOSITE: "Of course it was going to be Ryu."

megamanlance said on September 8, 2013 at 8:42 p.m.

OH. MEGAMAN , where are you? :(

#47
YanDaMan said on September 10, 2013 at 1:32 p.m.

@37

Except the Megaman fans didnt hate or whine about SFxMM. They were angry that Capcom were shamelessly trying to claim credit for something they didnt even do by pretending they care, when they didnt do squat but threw a bone to the developer with minor support and not issuing a cease or desist. Most of the fans were grateful for the person who created SFxMM.

Keep believing your false beliefs though, if it makes you feel better. After seeing Inafune's kickstarter results, I'm already convinced the MM fanbase is one of the best. We put our money where our mouth is. All while giving Capcom a huge middle finger in the process. Because action speaks louder than words.
