Japanese arcade version of Ultra Street Fighter 4 being released in April 2014

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • October 29, 2013 at 4:17 p.m. PDT

Those of you who have been curious as to when the public will see Ultra Street Fighter 4, it appears a Japanese arcade release is expected in April of next year.

According to Amusement Game Liberty, a public establishment in Kagoshima that retains arcade machines, the USF4 cabinet will be available in April 2014. In their initial tweet, AGL mentions that the "base" will be upgraded some how, and that they will be charging 100 yen to play.

Hit the jump to check out the original tweet and the English translation.

AML Information: Ultra Street Fighter 4 will be available next year, in April!! The base is being upgraded as well! But... They'll be charging us 30 yen per play, so we'll have to the default setting will likely be 100 yen per play.

What this means for console release, is currently unknown. As arcades have received previous Street Fighter 4 versions before consoles in the past, we may have to wait until after April for a home port.

It maybe like DOA5U where the console version came out before the arcade version. Just guessing. I was thinking and hoping that USF4 came out before March 31.

It'll make for an interesting EVO if console versions hit around April as well.

I'd assume we'll get a reverse vanilla SF 4 - Consoles/PC before the arcade release.

at this stage in SF4's lifespan i see no reason why arcade and console release cant be on the same date, or at least very close to each other. that being said, it probably wont be. why? because.

I think it means since the arcade machine company is taking a 30 yen cut each play they are going to make it 100 yen per play.

The more time they'll take for testing the better. I wouldn't mind waiting even longer if the endproduct is worth it.

If the west isn't gonna get until after April, that's cutting it really close to EVO time. Who knows what kind of bugs, and balance issues will be found once it's released.

Does this mean Ver 2012 will get one final year?

#32
disp said on October 29, 2013 at 6:03 p.m.

That's true, but the longer they have location tests, and get good feedback, it's obviously going to be more balanced than if they rush the release.

For instance Blizzard and Valve beta tests take years, and their products are always polished and quality.

Okay take your time but make this awesome and perfect!
Well, you start bad with putting SFxT characters unstead of old characters like Karin, Sodom, Juli and Juni, R.Mika and other of Third Strike...
I want more new stuff like third ultra for everyone, second super too why not! New move!
Whatever, make this unbelievable.

Do what you need to do Capcom....I'm not mad if need be release the home version during the Summer of 2014.....just hope the game is perfect and you decide to add Karin & Alex to the roster for the home versions as a surprise!!!! Adding Karin & Alex is a massive deal cause of their popularity, it would spark a relieved feeling to fans and give new life into the street fighter community!!!! These two characters are long overdue for a return!!

Even if this game is released in June, Evo will still feature it. They change their rules all the time. Besides, who would tune in to see an old game?

#50
JIHADJOE said on October 29, 2013 at 8:44 p.m.

@27
That's an idea! Have all the arcade operators in America do a group-buy of USF4 and course the orders through Evo 2014.

#51
TheTHCGamer said on October 29, 2013 at 9:10 p.m.

We still don't know if the arcade version will be released first. There could still be a possibility of a console version being first and it wouldn't be the first time a console version was released first. Regardless it looks like the console version will be released around the same time as US release of BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma.

#52
GeneralSpecific said on October 29, 2013 at 9:13 p.m.

True that.

Or the console version being released shortly after or near the Arcade version.

Arcade != necessarily mean Japan only either.. anyone can jump in if they're dedicated enough.

I mean for instance I'd guess Bugis Singapore might get a USF4 setup?
And a few others who care enough. =]

#53
HooliganComboFTW said on October 29, 2013 at 9:13 p.m.

The players entering the tourney are a bigger priority then spectators, especially for arguably the biggest fighting game event of the year. With the sheer amount of changes this game will potentially have from adjusted character balance, new characters, and new mechanics it won't be Evo main event ready if released in June. There would be sloppy play and increased likelihood of fraudulent gameplay. Not to mention Japan could potentially have a real advantage if USFIV comes out in arcade first.

USFIV can be a side game where not everything is on the line.

That's a really long time! But looking at Arcade Edition release dates...

AE:

Anounced April 4 2010
Released December 16 2010

9 months to develop it for arcades.

Ultra:

Anounced July 13 2013
Release April 2014

9 months again.

I hope this time will be an Arcade and console release. Or even better an earlyer console release :)

Anyway when Capcom announced an early 2014 release i was thinking about a february release. Never the last month of the first quarter.

Keep the great work up!!!

Not only will it make EVO hype, it can also get people that dont play the game, want to play it, because of the new mechanics.

There are those that love fighting who dont really like sf4.

#65

#66
AlterHowdegen said on October 30, 2013 at 3:52 a.m.

To clarify on the 30 yen per 1 play thing: The money is going to Taito via Nesica, the IC card service that the Street Fighter Machines employ (enabling nicknames, player statistics, costumes etc), not to Capcom. This used to be cheaper (don't know the amount), but 50 yen per play seems unlikely for USF4 machines now, where it was standard for AE (either 50yen/credit or 100yen/2credits).

GiBGUN said on October 30, 2013 at 8:45 a.m.

This shouldn't come as a big surprise. They're implementing tons and tons of changes, additions and new features. It's naturally going to take longer than we've seen with previous updates. I'd love the game right this second but I'd much rather wait it out for a polished update than a rushed mess.

#72
MaysTheCraze said on October 30, 2013 at 8:56 a.m.

April is only the fourth month of the year. I'd still consider that early 2014

And I did not see this coming. Makes me wonder if the console version might come earlier, but I guess that's just me being impatient.

#73
MRN_SirFoxington said on October 30, 2013 at 9:16 a.m.

Its funny, all I hear from most people is "I rather would wait longer so Capcom does the job right"...they can take their sweet time AND people WOULD STILL complain about something in this game- don't matter how long its going to take! Stop pretending you wouldn't.

I think the console release will happen a bit earlier in the year. Capcom know the hardcore arcade SF players will want to get training right away, more than enough insentive to give console ver an early release and get extra sales.

Looking forward to something fresh. Until then I'll see you tarts on Killer Instinct.

Yes.. I know we got a lot of characters but the game feels incomplete to me without Karin & Alex, I mean we got Sakura & Hugo as their main rivals and it would feel kind of weird without them??!!! As far as Hagger....It wouldn't be bad to add him to the game but they would need to change him up a lot so he would not be a watered down version of Zangief! Here's hoping for Maki!!!!
