WeirdoNeo on Korean reality talent show Superstar K5, similar to American Idol - currently a finalist

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • October 1, 2013 at 10:14 a.m. PDT
Best known in the fighting game community for his strong Juri play, Neo "WeirdoNeo" Yim has other talents.

Yim (a.k.a. Im Sun-young, 임순영) is one of the finalists on Superstar K5, which is a television talent show based in South Korea, that had over 1,982,661 applicants try to apply for season 5 alone.

Designed to create new stars in the Korean music world, this show is somewhat similar to American Idol in the United States.

Yim has put in some impressive performances so far, and we've embedded a few of his clips into this story so you can hear his vocal chops. This guy is terrific.

Hit the jump to see another video and more details.

And just so you know some of Yim's fighting game pedigree, he picked up 5th place at East Coast Throwdown 5 in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 earlier this year, using Juri.

Wish him luck as he advances through the competition, and if you watch the show, make sure you vote for him to continue advancing through the elimination rounds.

Wow, that's pretty cool lol. Now all I need is to see ChrisG breakdancing on America's Got Talent, and I'll be set.

I made an account here just so I could comment on this video.
I hope he does well with this. As both a fighting game peer and a man who respects musical talent, he's got my vote for any polls that come in the future.

I like it

You usually see FGC have musical talents on instruments (fanatic, etc) but vocals seems a little more impressive to me

@17

The ol' Bison dollar is going to take a serious hit when our FGC state outlaws standard capitalism and all our video game companies are forced to operate on a non-profit business model.

Wishing him all the best !

If only I understood the language, I would have voted for the guy :)

I understood most of what he was saying..... Since I have a Korean girlfriend and other stuff. But yeah, I hope he succeeds if he's trying to get into the Kpop industry, since that industry is mostly full of bad influences among other things. I hope he'll survive there and make it big time. Just hope he won't turn into those Kpop stars who over do everything in terms of performance and trying to sell a album. Kid got talent and I respect that. I hope he'll succeed with this and make something out of it that's all I could say.

So beautiful, even though I couldn't understand the lyrics T-T
Us Saikyo types get so choked up by the smallest of sentiments. MOST things sound better in a different language that isn't English.

It makes Juri seem just a little less evil, I know she is just a character but who you main tells a little about you. This proved the opposite.
