TriForce visits MTV's Sucker Free to promote the fighting game community, a gaming reality TV show, EVO and more in this 2006 video clip

Posted by Steven 'Dreamking23' Chavez • May 29, 2013 at 11:31 a.m. PDT
Back in 2006, Empire Arcadia's own TriForce spearheaded a reality TV mini-series that followed pro gamers to another country as they competed in an assortment of different video games for money. He then appeared on MTV's Sucker Free Gamer Week along side Nightmare to promote the program and talk a bit about the gaming community.

This video clip marks one of the earliest recollections of the fighting game community getting exposure on national television. TriForce goes on to speak about how some of the Empire Arcadia boys (back then) performed at EVO 2006 and mentions that players such as Justin Wong, Sanford Kelly and Ricky Ortiz brought home $11,000.

Overall, this is a very interesting clip and gives us a look back at what was going on in the fighting game community nearly 7 years ago. Check it out below.

@13 LockM

I wasn't arguing, it should be common sense. But okay... school me on how much video games benefits you more than playing a sport.

Physically? I would like to think a sport trumps video games in that department. Training for the military, police academy, self defense, armed security, moving furniture, your health, etc etc... I would like to think it would help if you'd hit the gym (involved in all sports competitively) then to pop in COD or Marvel Lol (which I do play).

Can you get a scholarship for being a top video gamer? No let's just look at the average competitive gamer.. cuz you can't compare the tip top tier pro gamers to a top athlete lol that's just dumb. moving on..

Wait.. what am I moving on to? LockM please plead your case lol

I don't understand the hate for TriForce, he seems like he's Chill, why does everyone have to be so Negative, I can see why the Pros want to go esports. We need to change our attitude man.

@22 Nintendo Hardware does'nt fall apart, if it does its something your doing wrong, takes a lot to brake something Nintendo.

Man this was nostalgic gold here.

@27 "Can you get a scholarship for being a top video gamer?"

Stop denigrating your own hobby. Just because fighting games haven't reached the level of importance of professional sports doesn't mean they never will.

CharlieKenSon said on May 30, 2013 at 11:23 a.m.

@31

Oh ok that answers my question for the scholarships. But please dont talk as tho video games will reach the level of pro sports. You can say that it will grow much bigger than it is now.. That i agree. But when u start to compare it to actual sports as tho it is equally beneficial.. That's when I get upset from the massive face palm i just did to myself lol. I mean.. I love having them godlike reads, set ups, and one hit kill combos in marvel. But to be in the ring urself.. Reading a real person, setting up real baits, dodging real punches.. Man that's a feeling u can't duplicate in any fighting video game.

@33
Yea u right..

Didn't they make a documentary about triforce? They made him seem like a leech. He fell when his team fell, made me wonder what he did with the money everyone earned. He ended having to get a job because it seemed like he was living off them.

Gotta respect the dude because he actually did something within the fgc and lead some of the top fighters.
