Guile's auto-correct Flash Kick and escaping 1-frame unblockables - Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012

Posted by SFilp • May 29, 2013 at 7:40 p.m. PDT
Gilley has put together a short video with some revolutionary Guile technology for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012. It was known that Guile's wakeup reversals do not auto-correct properly and it had been theorized that was due to his turning animation being slightly different than any other character.

Gilley has found a way with jump canceling to get Guile's specials to auto-correct properly. Additionally, he found that this technique allows Guile to get out of many crossup situations and 1-frame unblockables.

If you hit the jump you can see another one of Gilley's videos where he showcases many different setups for multiple characters. Note that below the second video is an index of characters if you'd like to skip to a specific matchup.

So basically dude wants homing flash kicks :P
Isn't guile god-tier enough?

This is pretty interesting. It may help with autocorrecting with other characters in other situations as well. Gotta test this out to see what setups this blows up.

Thank you so much Gilley for this video. I plan to work on this for awhile.

Somewhere in the East Coast, Dieminion is smiling and will practice the timing of this new technology for EVO.

Has Dieminion played SSFIV:AE lately? Every time I saw him in a tournament, he only played UMvC3.

Very cool. It's like a plan B to the plan A of Guile, which is never getting touched.

Nice video. Just like Gilley said most Guile players new it would sometimes auto-correct. But i never understood why. But before people start to think this makes Guile top-tier like in Super, think again. This is difficult to execute due to the timing. Furthermore good players rushing down Guile after a knock-down won't always go for cross ups. Nevertheless this tech is really interesting.

#19
Lerch said on May 30, 2013 at 6:04 a.m.

This is deceptive and theoretical. Any jump in can be timed to stuff flash kick on the ground. Yes guile has a wakeup glitch but canceling prejump frames is not what auto corrects flash kick. Its all in timing. And it will never work against an experienced player in a real match. Flash kick is a crappy wakeup move, simple as that. Block jump dash absorb and late crouch tech, those are your options. There is no one answer and u have to mix it up. I thought everyone knew if it targets guiles head in anyway flash kick loses...just try this stuff in training mode. If you can do a late/ "auto-corrected" flash kick you also could have jumped or dashed out of the cross up witch is far safer.

Donald_K_Bahls said on May 30, 2013 at 6:04 a.m.

It's not a bug. He doesn't auto-correct because he would be broken and unbeatable if he did. having crap options after a knockdown is his punishment for letting people in. Guile shouldn't have a good reversal.

@22 He has a good reversal...just not a good vertical reversal...he slides when he wakes up which is unique to him. Guile cannot keep anyone out forever...its not possible, he has to maintain a life lead and do his small damage with good reads to keep it...he has no welfare comeback potential, builds no meter and has low stun...he is built fore precise play...u make a mistake and its pretty much gg

#23
Gunner411 said on May 30, 2013 at 6:16 a.m.

@VladDracul. Jaguar kick pressure, good dp and stand roundhouse. That is the basis of Adon's tools. Adon is top-tier but not THAT high. Yes Guile has very good normals but please don't compare one aspect of 2 different characters to compare tiers rankings, because tiers are based on opinions of matchups over the entire cast (as nobody has perfect knowledge of every character).

Came here to post what #23 already said... it's not a "bug" or glitch ppl just like Shoto's invincibility on DP start up is not a bug/glitch. Lambda

#26
bigfellr said on May 30, 2013 at 8:23 a.m.

you reach guile then you get a knockdown only to get blown up by his flash kick or crouch mp?

It's funny how ppl complain about jaguar kick when sonic boom is the most overpowered fireball in the game.

Not. Only his ground game is godlike his air to air is too good.
You can't backdash against his flash kick. His standing fierce is also a bullcrap move.
If only their we're a lot of players like me. Guile would def get nerfed.
Too much ppl complain about adon which he really isn't that good.

#27
Lerch said on May 30, 2013 at 8:42 a.m.

@28
flash kick blows up zero knockdown mixups, cr mp blows up 1 crossup in particular.

sonic boom is not overpowered in anywhich way. its just his spacing tool. akumas air fireball is the best in the game.

his air to air is good but people really dont need to jump on guile to win

guile has a a huge weakness to focus attacks when he cant safely throw sonic booms.

what is there to nerf he has low stun no comeback no good mixups and terrible closeup defense.

he is only good midrange aka three training room squares

#28
Gunner411 said on May 30, 2013 at 8:57 a.m.

@ Lerch

Don't both responding to them bro. When people are saying "Sonic Booms are free", they lose credibility. Trust me, I'll be one of the first to say Sonic Booms are very good and so are his normals. But its like people don't understand about his weaknesses lol. (Please nobody take this as me saying Guile is ass).

Just nerf Guile's braindead Sonic Boom game (Ken Hadoken Recovery levels) and I'd be OK with fixing Guile's autocorrect.

Guile should not be able to do Sonic-- RRAAAHHYYAAA (Standing Fierce.). No other character in the game can combo off of their projectile without EX/FADC.

That and it being +4 on block is nonsense.

Just increase the recovery a little bit, give it a little more meter gain as compensation, and Guile is still good but not as braindead.

#33
Anon said on May 30, 2013 at 10:12 a.m.

@34 So guile would have to charge for his projectile AND have ken's terrible fireball recovery? Geez someone really has problems with the Guile matchup...

#34
IMainDanHibiki said on May 30, 2013 at 10:45 a.m.

@35: Guile shouldn't be able to win fireball wars.

If need be, make it Ryu's recovery. It's just too good as it is now.

I don't have problems with a Guile matchup, but it's annoying when I have to deal with a near-instant recovery Sonic Boom. I'm just asking for it to be able to be punishable on reaction like Ryu's can in some cases.

You could also predict an ex.Sonic Boom - those have more recovery.

#37
Lerch said on May 30, 2013 at 12:10 p.m.

@ gilley

Love ur work. I'm just a sceptic and after watching the video and then going through various wakeup scenarios I'm just not sold on the practicality. The timing of the jump in makes the results unfavorable. I personally loved watching flash kick destroy cross ups, but personal experience tells me flash kick is simply a horrendous wake up attack.

@ 36

Guile doesn't win fireball wars with sonic boom. He builds no meter. So not sure how our losing fireball wars with ryu.....backfist??? Don't throw a fireball close up to meet a sonic boom, u will get back fisted every single time

#38
gilley said on May 30, 2013 at 1:09 p.m.

@Lerch

Yes, but in the 2nd video I say that Guile's best way to beat these unblockables or fake unblockables is to wakeup with s.LP or s.LK, not autocorrect FK. If the opponent tries to change their timing to screw with Guile, Guile will still hit them. Autocorrect FK is just another tool he has for wakeup.

#39
2Future4U said on May 30, 2013 at 1:22 p.m.

LOL @IMainDanHibiki, bitching about the most fundamental aspect of Guile..he has to charge to get his special out, hence being rewarded with the ability to follow up his projectile..it has been like that since SF2 buddy, do some homework 09'er

#40
Lerch said on May 30, 2013 at 1:28 p.m.

@ gilley

I understand sorry. My post was negative but I was just trying to keep people from thinking guiles flask kick is a good blanket answer now and crying op now that the turtle can get off his back when he's flipped over har har har...otherwise, great info on the light normals,

don't hate me I'm just a guile whose frustrated with matchups and vortexes and the misconception that he's an easy brain dead character, when in fact he is probable the epitome of depth and difficulty to master, since his entire game is perfect reactions and guesses

If 4 years wasn't enough for you to understand why Guile's sonic boom has the quickest recovery and why his normals are good, drop the game. There isn't any hope for you.

DEATH TO AUTO-CORRECT!! Seriously though. WHy should you get rewarded for mashing wake ups. Should be done like xtekken. Where theres no autocorrect and if you do something reckless your gonna get penalized hard.

#47
Lerch said on May 30, 2013 at 7:37 p.m.

@48
Huh? Don't even know where to begin with that lol.

#48
IMainDanHibiki said on May 31, 2013 at 8:32 a.m.

LOL @41 for thinking I'm an 09'er.

I've thought Guile's crap has been unfair since SFII. I've always thought Sonic Boom has been too good of a tool; I agreed with them nerfing the meter gain (But they should really increase his Flash Kick damage. It's not really viable much.) because of how fast it is to recover.

Holding back to throw a fireball and throw it isn't unfair, I just think it shouldn't be rewarded with near instant recovery on a move that already puts Guile in a defensive position.

#49
Lerch said on May 31, 2013 at 10 a.m.

@50
Guile has a lot of weaknesses. Every character has a welfare attack, guiles is light punch sonic boom. Not heavy or ex cause those can be punished. Some people don't think he deserves it but its his only frametrap and it isn't going away so oh well

#50
IMainDanHibiki said on May 31, 2013 at 2:33 p.m.

@51 That's just a sad truth; I wish they gave Guile an option that was less safe but still Viable. He's a decently balanced character, but he just wrecks so many people because of his booms.

#51
Lerch said on May 31, 2013 at 3:08 p.m.

@52
Ur close to something, but capcom doesn't seem to want him to play any different, which is due to relative balance. Slow sonic booms let the opponent in closer but forces a reaction. If you jump u get anti aired if u focus u get punished but if u walk and block just got in and now guile is at a disadvantage. His greatest strength doesn't work at all against adon seth elf ibuki gouken rose fei akuma
