Needs more Black Adam, but Doomsday looks to be beastly.
That super was so sick but is it me or does his move set look very bland like very similar to rest of the tank characters, but I guess I really have to play the character to get sense of his playstyle.
A lot of people are forgetting..... Boon said there are two character types 1. Gadget 2. Power... All power or brute characters are very unique. Doomsday feels more like the Hulk from UMvC3. Bane feels like a luchadore wrestler and Grundy feels like, Zombie/Undertaker (WWE) using knives and other weapons.
Doomsday Super was Super cool, one of the best!!!
Supers in this game just look cheesy as f***. Also those stage transitions are annoying already and the game ain't even out yet
His super had me rofl. Reminded me of bugs bunny tunneling to china.
Also, the fat that doomsday has shorts on always crack me up. It doesn't figure into his back story at all. But it does keep his junk from hanging out I guess.
And the head on supermans stature rolling into the foreground at the end is a cool touch on the stage
I felt the Dig Dug Super was cheesy too. The initial crater was cool, seemingly inspired by a scene out of the Death of Superman... but then he continues to tunnel through the center of the earth and then back again.
Still looks fun.
BLACK ADAM WHERe?
@15 I don't know your definition of grapplers, but in my opinion Bane and Doomsday are grapplers because you can see they have multiple command grabs and need to be close to get damage, Grundy's is just more noticeable because he does a series in one scoop. Maybe, you rather call them tank characters because they have more moves to help them go in as oppose to Grundy who will probably suck against characters like cyborg, but there still grapplers like come on Bane wears a wrestling mask. I think they just didn't show the grappling aspect that much in the trailers.
OK, I still want LOBO! But I gotta say this was pretty mathmatical.
@14
You know, it did just dawn on me that Doomsday is a bit of a HULK rip off, comics wise. If you just look at the character's powers. I also noticed he had a very MvC2 Colossus-like super armor state where he took no hitstun. I might have to pick him up, if not just to kick the math out of everyone who picks Supes.
game looking real good right now, can't wait till release date.
I think everyone saw that coming, but lets be real, when a company's reveal is leaked or found early they are still going to reveal that character as they would. THe marketing campaign will not change because some dude saw a source file at gamespot's website.
@1 The TV reveal will have to be someone worth the advertising expense. I would think Raven fits the bill considering she seems to be the most popular request from the Titans show. I would also think Martian Manhunter could fit as he is the last of the big name justice leaguers. Ares could work maybe if he was the final boss. We saw the Are's helmet avatar thing and Im pretty sure Shao Khan had one of those too (showing they have these things for unplayable characters).
This probably would be really surprising if we hadn't spoiled ourselves these months.
@22, Shazam has command grabs as well but he's clearly not a grappler. Jax in MK9 had a few command grabs but he clearly wasn't a grappler. Bane/Doomsday are characters with grapples but it doesn't define their character like a Gief or Grundy. Doomsday looks more rushdown and he shows off only 2 command grabs and one regular throw. Bane looks like a "tank" or brawler where he just plows through his opponent.
After seeing the trailer a second time, yeah Doomsday isn't a grappler. No more than HULK is in UMvC3. Yeah he has two command grabs but Shazam looks like he actually has more than Doomsday. Doomie (yes a Beetlejuice cartoon reference) had a sorta gotcha grab and anti air gotcha ala Jax, a body splash like Gief, a running tackle that was ripped straight from MK9's Shao Kahn and Shao's upward tackle.
So yeah he has some grapples like say Honda from SF4 but he's not a grappler.
imo Shazam kinda got in dooms @$$ that whole fight lol
@28 Exactly.
@Anyone talking about stage transitions. Do me a favor, go to any game with traditional rounds and count the seconds before the round starts and the round ends (before round 1 and after someone loses a round and the next round starts), collectively this will be about 9-12 seconds or so, around the same amount of time two stage transitions would take. With the lack of traditional rounds it doesn't take up any more time than the time between the end of the previous round and the start of the next.
@27 I didn't consider Shazam a grappler because he has more movement and a teleport and like you said one command grab, and Doomsday ya hes more of tank and only shows two command grabs but as for Bane im saying hes a grappler but they gave him like one or two moves to get in because look at all these characters with zoning tools. When the game comes out I think Grundy might be really bad because of his lack of movement and ways to get in, like all these characters like cyborg, lex, Sinestro and Green lantern can probably mess him up and they can control him because of how big the stages are in injustice.
@34 Bane shows 2 grapple moves and looks more like a character that does big damage but can't do a lot combo/opening opponents up wise. He seems like a whiff punish character instead of "I have to get in to do grabs". El Fuerte in SSFIV is a character that's small with a ton of mobility and he's a grappler, mobility and size have nothing to do with it.
Grundy has at least one armor throw and his swamp hands can hold an opponent in place for a while with meter burn. These, along with the distance his dash covers, gives him viability against even a Green Arrow and the like.
@35,36 well we cant really tell if his swamp hand move will be good other than the ex(I think its was an ex by the flash in the gameplay) because looks like Grundy has armor, but it looks like someone can anticipate the move and if it has slow startup and no armor he can't even activate that move on strong zoners but its really something you have to test out yourself when the game comes out to see if that move is good.
Damm many people are hype for Doomsday I can't wait to play him.
Doomsday used DIG...on your face. It's super effective.
@37, I said with meter burn, on block they appear to leave the opponent in a stumble state, on hit they probably knock the opponent down/up in the air. Meter burn swamp hands look unblockable.
Still, my original point was that Bane/Grundy/Doomsday are not all grapplers and it seems like that's right. Just because they're big and have grapple moves doesn't make them a grappler.
I think most of the fighters are categorized by the 2 that Boon mentioned. 1.gadget 2. power but there are combinations of the and maybe others. Solomon is definitely power but he also has grappler. Wonder Woman is power but she has gadjets as well with the lasso Sword and board. Flash considered Gadget? I think he is agile as Harley is gadjet and agile. Night wing Agile/gadjet. Lex power/Gadjet. So it definitely falls in those caregories.
I jus wanna know wats da problem with having stage interaction n stage transitions? At least in here da transitions are wat help u win ur battle and inflict damage on ur opponent. Is it that serious to have to turn them off because u wanna win a match in 33 seconds ever time? This game was introduced to have a blockbustery kinda feel not jus a competetitive tournament type feel. Learn to appreciate it a lil bit. The issue everyone at Netherrealm is trying to conquer is ppl saying its exactly like mk or exactly like wat ever. We won't kno until we play it and experience it we already got ppl calling it a copy a rip off or stale. So before y'all get angry over da differences bein made take a look at da differences the team is trying to inspire.
THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!
I guess they used Shazam becuase of the voting of who didnt get there chance in the Arena.
Oh Jesus the Doomsday super was amazing!So much to dissect from the video!
Off to TYM!!!!*vanishes*
@40 Fair enough I was just thinking that when watching all their gameplay videos again and most of their grapples can be used in combos so ya with them you don't worry about landing a grab but a hit then combo into the grab, and I know you said meter burn I was talking about what I seen in the gameplay.
Alright sweet. Now reveal some other cool Zerg units.
Will main Doomsday if that Super is called Wrong Turn At Albuquerque. Make it happen Boon.
They should make the supers more Godlike and epic, i dunno.. Add an epic background music for the super and more screams of pain or something at the end? Don't get me wrong Doomsday's seemed awesome but Shazam's was like dull...
Soo far the game seems awesome cept that...
Character looks awesome... however his moveset looks like Shao Khan without weapons or projectiles... pretty bland.
This game looks fun and I'll buy it, but they really need to put more effort into these movesets.
This games reminds me more and more MK.
Look... as much as I like superhero, nobody cares about the story. The gameplay is what dictate the popularity of fighting game. If you have 2 persons trying to play for "real" and who know the basic, the gameplay must not feel cheap, like in MK. Yes MK has nice combo, nice graphics, but the gameplay is as deep as playing checkers. SF4 is closer to chess as you have more options available. I hope the best for this game, and can wait to see I was wrong.
@36
El Fuerte is by no means a grappler, his primary gameplan is not to grab but rather to mix up. He doesn't even have a command grab of his own that he can abuse with.
1:23 doomsday is sooo freakin ready. i like how doomsdays ultra starts just not the whole rapid punch after. so wonder women enemy is ares? gotta say i like his look. next will be ares raven and black adam. p.s. i like doomsday's face
Looks very good. I've already put a stash away for this. Nothing can deter me at this point.
@64
So fighting games with stage hazards are gimmicky? You're burnt. They add another level of strategy which most other 2D fighters lack. Do you want fighting games to never innovate and stay stale. I personally love the stage interactions they add a cinematic/comic book feel to the game. When these characters fight in movies, comics or other media they use objects around them when they fight. Stages are going to be a strategical factor in this game which has got me super hyped. Plus without rounds, you need something to give you a breather so you can rework your strategy.
Doomsday looks cool.. Reminds me of a cross between Shao Khan, Sheeva and Jax from MK9. Now that we got 20 characters revealed we got like 6 to 10 possibly left.
C'mon Martian Manhunter, Raven, Black Adam, Ares, Captain Cold, Starfire, Blue Beetle, Beast Boy, Red Hood and Vixen.
Kinda a let down for me, as I'm dying for a Raven reveal.
I will say, though, that his gameplay, while not aesthetically flashy seems very focused. He's very charge/dive oriented, which is cool, and usually leads to good synergy in a move-set.
Noticed Shazam can teleport. He's becoming a little too much like Raiden.
Also, anyone saying that stage bariables in this game are gimmicky and tired is an idiot. This is the first game to actually have characters interact with stages in different ways. Stage variables in this game are essentially just more moves to add to a characters move-set, but are only available in certain situations.
K, thats enough of the boring brute orge characters. Bring on the more interesting characters that actually show off there abilities and powers rather than punching and stomping everything. Nice super however.
The Supers in this game and the stage transitions look too gimmicky in my taste. Maybe I'm just too used to the whole Street Fighter type Supers and Ultras.
In any case, I wasn't really a fan of Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat's engine to begin with. So that might be it.
Finally saw the vid after getting home from work. For me Doomsday doesn't play any different than Bane or any other big brute character. Grundy has some chain throws. It's actually underwhelming. I know I'm jumping the gun but Bane and Doomsday doesn't interest me. Perhaps it's my distaste for the big brute characters which lack finesse,
I dunno what else people can expect from these brute like characters, they do what they usually do in the cartoons/comics ect. They tend to pummel the hero when they fail to keep them at bay. And when it comes to a game environment they can only do so much before it appears "stale".
From the looks of it Doomsday reminds me of colossus- shoulder charge, hyper armor move, and doomsday dive kick reminds me of how colossus super goes up first then dives downwards, and of course backed by massive damage. So more of a brawler styled character, while grundy is more grappler based and bane seems to be a moving brick wall. Id say they are doing fine so far.
@80
Couldn't agree more. As I expected, Doomsday looks very underwhelming with his move set and is just another generic hard hitting hulk-like character. Nothing about these types of brute characters interest me as they're all too generic, slow and boring with there play styles. No offense if there are people that like to use these brutish type of characters but they just bore the hell out of me.
He seems lackluster to me. Nothing appealing other than his super. Reminds me of Marduk in his SFxT version.
Maybe he was just added as fan service. Oh well, please reveal a more interesting character next. Kthnxbai. :P
I'm kinda disappointed at this reveal. His moves are great, his moves set him apart from the other big guys Bane/Grundy/Luthor, he's faster a great character overall, specially with that hell of a super. BUT, I am disappointed at calling this a huge reveal when this was actually revealed a week ago. Instead they should've gone with someone we haven't had official news of him/her being in the game.
@86
no they never got super human in the comics but you people have to remember its a dam game
The only superhuman powers Harley has is enhanced strength and agility and immunity to toxins and venoms.
@95
Yeah?...Either way you look at it, she has enhanced strength.
