Huge thanks to Jason24cf for sending this in.
Just to add, UMVC3 and SFIV are top 16 payouts and MK9 pays out top 8. These are the minimum prizes but its very likely they may increase with adiitional cash and product sponsorships.
Best of luck to all competitors who make it out here July 25 to 28th and hope you enjoy our tournament!
@8 Yon702 and suhpreme say hi the 2 best guys in vegas
FPS games are halo 4 and Blops 2. Sports are fifa, madden and nba 2k13.
@13 guarantee you it's going to be some blops2, some gears and maybe some halo
edit: @14 only blops2 and halo? no gears?
No gears, we only had room for 2 FPSgames, sorry guys :(
I already preregistered for this tournament, but I'm not sure how to add more games to my list. Their site doesn't appear to be updated at all. Plus after I registered I wasn't even sure if I was in the first 200 to register. There was no notification indicating otherwise. I really want to see that Shang Tsung dinner. It was the reason I registered so early.
Their contact us page has NO contact information on it. lol what do I do?
Guys, I went to evo last year and had a blast, but I'm trying to convince some friends to come with me this year, do you think DA BEACH has better pulling power? Also, these friends are non-fgc, I think VXG might be better for them in terms of alternatives to watching me play at the tourney
#24, thats not even a question. Non-FGC would love to go to St. Maarten (Caribbean). Ask them if they want to go on a vacation, take them to the Caribbeans, play at the tournament then enjoy the time there with your friends.
esports, this is disgusting. 'you wanna help grow the fgc' please, coming up in here throwing around money hand over fist, that's all it's about is money.
#20 sorry the contact page was not display on the menu correctly. It should be there now. You have various means to contact us now. Also the registration email confirmation error has been fixed as well, thanks for noting this!
Esports? Dude grow up a lil bit... People are crying about a business trying to do are either broke or a child or both.... Besides that this is a perfect event for me and my wife because we get to see the islands and I get to play video games plus gamble lol... It will probably be 2014 when I will attend though... Other than that this an amazing event that the whole family can enjoy
@lovelessLP
That mindset is exactly why the FGC has taken so long to grow compared to other genres. You can't keep relying on the entrants money to help the scene grow, you need actual investors. The extra money not only helps the events and it's organizers but most importantly the players. You want to see people to continue to invest their time in games and travel around the world showcasing their talents while going broke because they don't make any money from it? If you don't care about the money nobody is stopping you from playing at home with friends or online but to think that you can have a large competitive scene without involving money is just naive.
When is this? Wasn't it around the same time as Evo last year?
The dude said they are their own thing but if you are placing a tourney next to Evo you are pretty much inviting comparisons. Hope this isn't too close to Evo again this year, what an awful idea
#35, EVO intentionally put their dates close to VxG's last year.
This year [2013], VxG is at the end of July [25th-28th] oppose to EVO which is at the start of the month.
@ #3 & #23 I believe that VxG has mentioned elsewhere that they had Skull Girls and some other 3D fighters in their side tournaments.
@ #4 If someone had plans to go to EVO, they'd still go to EVO, VxG won't affect those plans whatsoever. VxG is simply an additional option for people in the FGC or anyone who otherwise wouldn't have gone anywhere.
@ #31 I'm really shocked that so many people have such a negative outlook regarding VxG. VxG only hopes to provide a unique gaming experience for the the FGC, in addition to attracting people to St. Maarten, the island that hosts it. What's wrong with that? How can the FGC grow if the same tournaments are held in the same places? The FGC exists outside of the US, Japan and Korea fyi...
@ #35 Major events are usually held all year-round in the Caribbean, since they are home to a big part of the tourism industry. For that reason, there is minimal flexibility when it comes to scheduling events. Regarding St. Maarten, July happens to be the only month that has no major events scheduled on the island, so I'm sure VxG did the best they could to avoid overlapping with EVO.
@ #38 I know you're trolling, but they said all prizes are in USD :)
Toddlers, this isn't about throwing $$ at FGC. There's no way in h3ll that these kids are dishing $50k just cuz they are promoting the scene - period. This is a risk investment- and from the little I see, I'm betting that it is in partnership with the hotel - fill summertime rooms with x peeps for y days. They could stand to lose big or renege on the payouts if not for a min # of attendees. That's why they're adding a broad range of games in that list. ALL speculation on my part though.
Their major fail point is EVo. For those who say you can have "other" fun at VxG, uummm.... VEGAS IS SIN CITY. So, that's not even competitive. IMO, they're gonna need something super special to attract FGC folks (ahem Daigo vs Infil vs Kazunoko, Kusoru vs ChrisG, Nemo vs FCHamp ahem).
That being said, I hope it works out for them. Can never have too many great events.
@39 - "July happens to be the only month no major events are scheduled in St.Marteens" - that's why VxG in in July?? SEE - 1) it's obvious that you are involved with VxG but more importantly, 2) that's the kind of BS that detracts from the event. Just say, "July is when no one is there cuz it's so damn hot and the only month the hotel doesn't fill rooms, so we can get the best prices!" It's honest and honesty brings trust and positivity.
Also, yes - VxG doesn't affect Evo. BUT Evo will certainly affect VxG. Would you go to Disney World and then to Disneyland in the same month?? NOPE. If you can get Shakira or Rihanna down there then you might have something. Better do some brain storming quick.
Ps - I'm not being negative or hating but you gotta be realistic. I hope they pull off a great tourney.
@ #40 Rolando has mentioned through other media that VxG is supported by the St. Maarten tourism board, so you're not too far off with your speculations. If you want to mention EVO, there are certain things you can do in Las Vegas and certain things you can do in the Caribbean.
Caribbean countries are in competition with the entire world when it comes to tourism, not to mention themselves. So, why not throw an event that will set St. Maarten apart? VxG will attract a demographic of people who may not have considered visiting the island before and I happen to think that its a pretty clever idea. The diversity of the games and the location itself serves to make the event attractive. A successful event benefits players from the FGC, tourists looking for a vacation spot and the citizens of St. Maarten.
This isn't directed at you, but I'm really disappointed at the people who want to cast blind doubt on this event. Given the grand scale of the advertized events for VxG I was skeptical myself, at first. Instead of following the crowd, I chose to look into the event, ask about it from those who went last year as well as asking Rolando himself. From all I've seen there's no reason to doubt the event or see it as direct competition to EVO, because it isn't. Its just a means for a fellow gamer to promote his country by organizing an event any game enthusiast would enjoy.
@41 You're point, though I didn't express it, was not lost on me. Two huge, similar events in the same month will definitely have an effect on each other. The point I was trying to make was that it was not by design. On streams, Rolando said that hotels are booked year-round for other events held on his island and July was the quietest month of the year since as you said no one wants to visit a hot island during the hottest time of the year.
Also, I in fact have NO affiliation with VxG whatsoever. None. All I wanted to do was share what I learned about the event because I see so much unfounded, biased assumptions about it everywhere. To be real honest, I'm very upset that people will throw all sorts of shade on the event because of where the guy comes from. If I say more than that, the conversation will take a turn that I'd rather not have it make.
VxG has bigger payout than Evo with possibly less [number wise] competition. So why would people go to Evo when they could go to VxG, play less people for a bigger payout?
If anything, Evo will be affected by VxG.
