Pretty surprised that Infiltration is going to miss this tournament.

Based on the attendees list, Infiltration is giving up free $$$ to Xian.

Thank you Eventhubs. I hope that from this point forward we all can play fair. There is a lot of postitive things we can offer to the FGC and we need a media platform that will not be bias to anyone. Good Show.

No casual players will go to vxg when tickets are $1200 round trip.

I sincerely hope vxg packs it up and ceases to exist.

But thats just me though.

Blazblue died when the latest anime fighter on consoles I.E. P4A cannibalized the already limited anime fighter scene. Blazblue should get some steam back though when the new Blazblue game drops for consoles.

dat mk9 pot!

#44
kaeshi said on July 24, 2013 at 5:47 a.m.

@42 there are a couple of weekly things that get streamed for ssf4, i couldnt think of the names of them but yes, people like chrisg and rog have been on them.

Gamerbee and Xian are the only real notables its just disappointing is all. I was simply asking WHY they werent going if the prize pool is decent.

#45
CyberAthlete said on July 24, 2013 at 5:56 a.m.

Lol @ people that are like "Why isn't so-so going!?" Uhh that **** is expensive for the ticket/hotel/spending money cause you're on the beech mON.

It's not guaranteed that gamerbee/ryan hart/xian/whoever will win or even place top 8 and at least get back some of the money spent for the trip. So..you know things to be considered

#46
TheBaldOneMpls said on July 24, 2013 at 5:57 a.m.

@38 First prize for AE is $6,000, which is more than EVO was this year ($5750). That $14,000 is the total prize pool for AE, which is smaller than it was at EVO ($16,000).

#47
corpsedust said on July 24, 2013 at 6:04 a.m.

plus evo wasnt that long ago some players may be tapped out for a trip unless they have a willing sponsor

#48
dennishubs said on July 24, 2013 at 6:09 a.m.

@46: they've been on them but never together, and very very rarely. if you dont want to watch that's fine, but dont start calling it equivalent to a weekly when it's not.

#49
trinispartan said on July 24, 2013 at 7:24 a.m.

My question to triforce is how can we make our Caribbean scene more active? How can the fgc members in various islands foster an overall more productive community?

#50
jesuslovessatan said on July 24, 2013 at 7:28 a.m.

this tournament already blows. why even have it so close to evo? Hey TriForce it looks like 'the big event' is gonna be a lazy ass weekly! stay free. nobody wants to watch the pro-bowl.

#27 because it's VxG and not an important tournament. Where's the prestige in an event associated with triforce?

#58
chipndip said on July 24, 2013 at 9:26 a.m.

Ok, why the hell is MK9 getting all this special treatment when it's dead as a drowned log? First it gets its ENTIRE event streamed at Evo, and now its pot is 8k compared to every other game's 3k (outside of AE and Marvel). This isn't just baseless bashing, cause the game regularly has the lowest number of entrants at tournaments it's featured in. What the hell is up with MK9? Is this corporate $$ influence or is there a legit reason for all this?

@60 Logic: Maybe MK9 is more popular in the Caribbean than in the US. Its like the difference between SCII in the US and Korean though those are extreme examples. The scene is probably MK9 heavy.

@63: That explains THIS event, but not Evo. Evo's an old topic, and I'm not gonna delve into it anymore, but I find it peculiar that this game's acting like it's popular when it's not. I honestly HOPE the game's really popular out there, cause if it isn't...then wtf?

Faygo_MI said on July 24, 2013 at 10:17 a.m.

LOL @ people hating on any event putting money in players pockets. You think all that money is from the entry fees? Rolando got the tourism board to give him less than %1 of the 40 million plus advertising budget the island has.

Tickets were $1200 because people like F Champ want to wait until 2 weeks before to book an international flight. Anyone who was going to Vxg and booked early paid much much less.

Vxg used EMP as a way to bring awareness to their brand. Vxg only needs about 400 players to be a success, most of those will come from other islands.

The only problem is the summer date. The main reason they can pull this off is because of the low tourism in the summer months on the island.

Just don't like you uninformed little children bashing everything not associated with what YOU WANT.

AT LEAST give them dudes a chance to fail.

AND bless their heart for a top 16 payout. Eventually top 16 payouts will become the norm if the rest of these idoits ever get any sponsors. How hard is it to get $5,000 from a big ass company?

This tourney is for the local Caribbean FGC community to show their stuff against top players, and it's also a time to party, relax, and unwind. The tournament is part of the overall experience.

People are taking things too seriously by trying to compare it directly to EVO.
