Updated again: Street Fighter 4 update demos for T. Hawk, Dee Jay, Chun-Li, Yang and Fei Long - Capcom Cup details

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • July 13, 2013 at 9:16 p.m. PDT
Updated once again: All three videos from the Capcom Street Fighter Nation! panel are online and available now. The first video discusses Capcom's involvement with the World Cyber Games and they mention there will be over $17,000 in prizes up for grabs.

They noted that the SSF4 AE v2012 EVO 2013 winner will get the first qualification spot for the Capcom Cup, which is taking place in December. Combofiend also runs through many of the Street Fighter 4 update balance changes which were previously documented, discussing what the process was like and the things they looked at.

After the jump, you'll find more videos from the panel, which show some of the new balance changes in action for T. Hawk, Dee Jay, Chun-Li, Yang and Fei Long, plus another previously shown panel clip from a better angle, so it's a bit easier to see everything.

I'm not a Chun Li player. How good are those buffs? They look pretty solid but I'd rather defer to someone with Chun experience.

I guess that's the distance for light rekka. Medium and Heavy will reach farther but with more risk.

Did they make Deejay's Ultra go farther? I can't tell.

#10
UncleBibby said on July 13, 2013 at 5:46 p.m.

They didn't explain what's different about T. Hawk's Ultra 2.

And that c.mk xx EX Dragon Punch didn't connect at all, so the crouching medium kick buff might not be that useful.

What was new about Deejay's ultra 1? Did he partition the charge or something?

#11
Esquilax said on July 13, 2013 at 5:47 p.m.

Those Dee Jay's buffs look amazing!

#12
RebornOdin said on July 13, 2013 at 5:48 p.m.

#11

Very likely has a better hitbox.

And with regards to the c.MK buff, it'll be very, very useful for doing condor spire. That, and there's still at the very minimum 6 months before the update comes out ("early 2014"), so it might connect in future versions.

Yes, DeeJay partitioned the change and it has better range.

#13
Villest1 said on July 13, 2013 at 5:49 p.m.

#14
gtfopanda said on July 13, 2013 at 5:50 p.m.

Are you actually excited about these changes guys? I hope there's more to come because these early changes seem just lazy to me.

I mean in many of them they're just reverting stuff from past updates (Chun's flip, Ken's comboable sweep, Vega's U2 startup etc).

In others, they're just sort of giving similar tool to the whole cast (better antiair to those who have weak ones, cancelable pokes to those who lack them).

Last, they're just hitting with the nerf hammer top picks: Ibuki's vortex gets wrecked, Fei's best move loses range, Cammy's explosiveness goes out of the window etc.

I wish they'd do something more unique, rather than bringing back into the game stuff we've already seen and giving every char in the game universal upgrades like better move speed, more health and decent antiairs - even those kind of weaknesses define characters, and if you're good enough you can still balance them in different ways.

It's gonna be Asura, they aren't gonna "waste" any important character on Hyper/2014.

You wanna save those for DS4, SF5, MvC4 and the likes.

-well they slightly buff to yangs command grab range
-Can finally crossed up
-couldnt see if they buffed his standing light kick since the player sucked
-didnt see the divekick get buffed

#20
theramin said on July 13, 2013 at 5:55 p.m.

@7 When you use Chun-Li you'll find your opponents go to focus attacks a lot. She doesn't have a quick hitting multiple hitting move and her armour breaking move is Spinning Bird Kick(Flash Kick motion), the addition of a non charge armour breaker should make her more threatening while she approaches. Her anti-air game isn't real strong so the showing of that flip kick is probably some sort of adjustment to hit/hurtboxes or frame data.

#21
Doopliss said on July 13, 2013 at 5:56 p.m.

@17: I disagree, this has the potential to be a really powerful buff for him. I'd like some more safety on non-EX spire, maybe even to be able to FADC them, but cancellable c.MK sounds really fun and good, might be able to hitconfirm into knockdown with EX spire or LP Tomahawk, which would be huge.

Also, FADCable Tomahawk? A big buff, but I don't think it fits him.

RebornOdin said on July 13, 2013 at 5:56 p.m.

There is no such thing as "wasting" a character slot. You're under the assumption that they have to include a character in the first place in order for it to be wasted.

The ONLY reason why the confirmed 4 are from SFxT is SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE SOMEONE POINTED IT OUT TO ONO MONTHS AGO THAT THE CHARACTERS TRANSFER WELL FROM THE SFXT ENGINE TO THE SF 4 ENGINE. If this hadn't been pointed out, then they very likely wouldn't of been included.

Capcom didn't go "Gee, well we have 4 missing character slots, better fill them up with something!" No, sorry, that's not how it works. Someone happened to transplant Rolento, Poison, etc into the SF 4 engine and found that it was mostly compatible (Minus some missing animations, hitboxes, etc). You can look it up if you want.

#28
Rizu75 said on July 13, 2013 at 6:01 p.m.

DeeJay's Ultra travels slightly more (either that or his forward dash traveled slightly more, hard to tell for me) and new counter hit setups.

Chun Li has quicker jumps and a better anti-air, I think also slightly more damage in that EX Fireball > EX Kicks combo, excluding the Ultra at the end.

Fei Long's Rekka succession I think now has to be input quicker than before, not allowing it to confirmed into as easy as before.

Yang's overall damage output seems increased, his jumping M.Kick also seems easier to cross-up with.

T. Hawk seems like he might be more grapple friendly with FADCs and cancelables.

ROFL you hear some of the fans say "NOoooOO" When he demo'd Fei Long. Priceless.

#11 IT was a crappy demo but I think what he was trying to show is that you can land Ultra 2 even when they are in the air but close to the ground. Much like Zangiefs U2.

@7 Well she does more damage and her flip kick anti air is back keeping Jumpy opponents from abusing her again.

The EX Hosanshu (Special Flip Kick) is now armor breakable. Before, characters could bait her flip kick with Focus and punish her hard. Now they have to worry about armor break which means you can clos ethe distance easier on most characters easily on the ground.

Hear health is reportedly 950 which is a welcomed buff allowing her to last matches with most of the cast.

so more juggling properties on deejays counter hit far hp (i think, not sure the full extent of how it works) & faster start up and/or longer distance for U1. U1 buff is pretty good, far hp is situational and those follow ups might not be practical, but ill take it i guess.

roarmonster said on July 13, 2013 at 6:19 p.m.

for deejay they probably made dash ultra easier to preform and the invicibility on it before was very poor, that obviously got buffed. Also Id say slightly further range

over all Deejay didnt get what he needs in my opinion, but I highly doubt this is all they are doing to the characters with the game coming out in 2014. Hopefully people dont cry about chun being strong and have them nerf it before release, I like chun.

#45
SeriphAngel said on July 13, 2013 at 6:41 p.m.

@7: Chun-Li while having decent pokes she was not very useful in many scenarios. Her armor break move was unsafe so adding the property to her ex hazanshu(should have been done long ago) makes me think twice now with focusing for it was the hugest problems in a match was not being able stop constant focus users effectively.

Her anti air game is far from amazing due to most moves trading unlike before and by doing this gives her more chances to do something and open combo properties.

More health and more damage is something she really needed for she already was super scale heavy. This makes her have better damage output per move and more useful per move. While she looks easy to use at time the rewards are hardly ever worth the time it takes to learn her correctly.

Her Kikoken has not been a viable move since Alpha AND championship edition of II where is was full screen and a quarter circle forward. She has not ever had a knock down variant. It now can punish better and give you options while the opponent tries to recover.

There is more that this helps.

If you people think that Ibuki can only start Vortex from a neckbreaker then you're in for a big surprise. Ibuki just got a massive buff and i'm loving it. Ibuki can setup up vortex from Tsumuji easily. I honestly can't believe Capcom have overlooked this hahahahaha

Q only didn't get used because he was low tier and in 3's low tier means suicide. People as a hole though do enjoy his character design and how he functions, there is nothing wrong with that. @roarmonster. Def agree. I'll have to test out the range on that back heavy. I love the abilityto combo, but if my back med. is still safer ill stick with that. I really hoped they'd give him a bit more. Make that back heavy a regular instead of counter. I can see some setups in the corrner. Back heavy on counter, ex slashes, into ex kicks, or ultra, or ex machine gun. My mind is racing, I can't wait to see the other changes. Lets go knock down on ex banishing flat geif.

#64
TaurusMAGNUS said on July 13, 2013 at 10:34 p.m.

All I want now for Yang is a little more damage and stun.

#65
SgtKonus said on July 13, 2013 at 10:41 p.m.

Can they make it so that there is a better reward for landing an EX Green Hand? Akuma can punish it on HIT!

Other than that, the game looks great. I want to see the changes to Ibuki, she has few footsie options and most of her defensive options are terrible.

#66
dragyoon said on July 13, 2013 at 11:40 p.m.

#67
jonf6 said on July 14, 2013 at 12:05 a.m.

I'm kinda nervous about the Ibuki changes. She has no vortex in SFxT and is absolutely horrible, with nothing to really replace its damage. I hope they handle this better by actually giving her something, compared to just taking away.

#70
Mr_Mineralz said on July 14, 2013 at 12:58 a.m.

@68 Her vortex will only disappear if they nerf her Tsumuji. She has vortex setups after Tsumuji and front throw so I wouldn't worry about it. I personally think her changes are buffs other than the neckbreaker.
She still has ambiguous kunai setups with Tsumuji and safe jumps so I don't understand why Ibuki players are worrying.
Neckbreaker nerf is only a nerf to a scrub imo as it prevents huge reward from random neckbreakers.

How is this "NEW" content. Most of this is folder 'drag and drop' on the computer files. ALL of this can be done for free on PC. PC hitbox/frame data mods as well as character and stage importing.

Also, nice one to Capcom for pre-order bonuses on a game that's barely even started and isn't being released for over 6 months. That obviously disc locked content.

Get hyped for should-be-free PC mods and disc locked content. No.

Close standing MP has more frame advantage (player combo'd into far standing MP from the looks of it)

I'm thinking the new mode for 2v2 would be this: since they probably won't add in any new mechanics, that you would play a 2/3 round and when you lose a round, your 2nd character plays.

my view on DeeJay ( i watched the vids without audio so I may have missed stuff )

- Looks like his Dash forward is further/faster ( should make Dash->U2 easier OR could potentially allow a Dash->U2 after fully smashing out EX.MGU anywhere on screen
)
- U1 prob got better projectile invincibility + dashes forward further

- Far HP Counter-Hit looks like it pops him up further, and has better juggling properties ( only EX Sobat would connect before )

If they could reduce the startup time on EX MGU that would be huge ( or improve invincibility ) since DeeJay has no good reversal. Or they could buff his UpKicks to hit crouching opponents from further away

Just my two cents, very excited to see Low-Tier's get improvements rather than nerfing high-tiers
