Tekken FGC joins together to save St. Louis player's home

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • July 1, 2013 at 4:18 p.m. PDT
Tekken FGC joins together to save St. Louis player's home With some negative news about the FGC going around, we wanted to shine the spotlight on a very good thing that went down recently.

Dilly, an Asuka player from St. Louis, recently fell on hard times. Over a year ago his best friend died, leaving behind a daughter that Dilly and his fiancee adopted.

Dilly and his family were at risk of losing their home, but the Tekken community donated nearly $2,000 in 2 weeks, with the final $375 coming in from an anonymous donator one hour before midnight on the day of the deadline. Dilly recounted the later part of story on Tekken Zaibatsu, hit the jump to read everything.

So I say this, almost with tears in my eyes...

Some kind soul out there, who requested that they remain anonymous, donated a full $375, exactly what I needed before tomorrow.

I don't know who you are, and I don't know what made you choose to help me, but a million thank yous from the bottom of my heart. Your act of kindness literally left my fiancee on the floor crying tears of joy, you literally just saved our house.

To all of you who have helped, or at least read this thread, I thank you all. Words cannot express what you have done for us in our time of need. I'm not 100% out of the clear (there's still $900 to be negotiated), but your help has made sure we still have a roof over our heads, and for this I thank you. If there is ANYTHING I can do to return the favor, just ask, and I will do anything I can do... THANK YOU ALL!

You can read the very awesome and inspiring tale on Tekken Zaibatsu, and see how things unfolded.

As good a gesture as it is, how long is that really going to keep the wolves from the door?

The guy probably needs far more help than that.

This is awesome news. Is great so see people helping each other. Specially the anonymous person, most people would donate and then brag about it or remind people every single time how """good""" they are. But he/she was a humble person with a great heart, decided to stay out of the whole picture, and still manage to greatly help Dilly and his family. Cheers!!!

Gotomaster said on July 1, 2013 at 6:14 p.m.

@18 Yeah, because Dilly was clearly an extremely popular player. This like the first we all probably heard of him, and to see people donate 2000 to who is probably a complete stranger is an admirable trait. Sure the FGC has its fair share of idiots, but there are really decent individuals among it as well. Heck, Topanga league is doing a charity event this weekend and players are helping with Donations.

I had given you crap before, Eventhubs, for posting a couple of articles that seemed to be missleading and meant for sensationalism and agitating the community. However, after today, you have regained my respect for two posts: one is this, and the other is the one that you didn't post.

Much respect to the Tekken community. This is certainly more newsworthy than the recent Noel Brown incident.

A prime example of the true nature of human beings. Negative news on the FGC draws hundreds of post, meme's and more... positive news only gets a 30 post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiNmZ5... call it corny... but it defines us exactly as we are for the most part.

Man, it's stuff like this that makes me proud to be apart of this community. Now if we can just get rid of the anti-gay, anti-female crap in the FGC it would be my utopia

This is what the FGC is about, great story to hear. So where's the Kotaku article on this? oh wait now I remember why Kotaku is garbage.

#54
IcegeFR said on July 2, 2013 at 7:03 a.m.

I submitted this story TWICE over a week ago and Eventhubs made no move on it.

Suddenly, Noel Brown gets arrested, IPW picks up the Dilly story, and NOW EventHubs wants to get in on the feels.

So for all of you complaining about Kotaku, you also need to ask EH WHY they couldn't post a story like this that was submitted twice, but within 1 hour an Injustice DLC teaser image is reposted.

Here's the link to Kor's Tekken Academy where the story also took place: http://tinyurl.com/moy4ltr

Everything has bad and good. Don't just focus on the bad, and don't forget the good. Don't judge anything on just one side. Everything has potential for for both. This is great news to hear about, inspires a bit more hope in humanity.
