Early entrance numbers for EVO 2013 by game - SSF4 AE v2012, UMvC3, Smash, SFxT and more The EVO crew recently put out beta brackets for EVO 2013. Keep in mind, these are not the finalized versions of the brackets, and they're subject to change.

We decided to calculate the number of players in every bracket, factoring in byes. Assuming my math is correct you can find a number listing of the competitors scheduled to play Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Street Fighter X Tekken, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Persona 4: Arena, King of Fighters 13 and Mortal Kombat 9.

Hit the jump to check out the rundown.

Early entrance numbers for EVO 2013 by game

1. SSF4 AE v2012 - 1,601 players
2. UMvC3 - 1,297 players
3. Smash - 696 players
4. Injustice - 582 players
5. SFxT - 545 players
6. KoF13 - 433 players
7. P4A - 400 players
8. TTT2 - 355 players
9. MK9 - 233 players

You can take a look at the brackets for yourself, right here, and if you have feedback, look for the button at the bottom of every pool page.

Good to see Persona 4: Arena in there. I honestly didn't expect it to be that high. Smash Bros Melee is going to be the game to watch(personally).

@Chrisuchiwa

Edit: You're not counting the numbers with byes factored in. The numbers in this story count the players total, with byes factored in, not just the max total spots, which is what your numbers were.

Oh Sh.t I saw Eita in Marvel pools!!!! Now we can officially say UMvC3 is a universal game. Even Eita?

Edit, @Catalyst i guess you are right since I checked some and there were no byes!

I saw a lot of ''Bye'' but they don't tell who left.

Sweet AE is king like it should be.

KoF needs more Mai T-Shirts to boost them numbers, had over 1k last year

P4A is doing pretty good despite the whole "Anime Fighter" stigma it has to deal with.

Injustice looking pretty underwhelming for a new release game which got a free ticket as a main game.

"D2: Humanbomb, Kai, Poongko, and Kim1234"

IS THIS A JOKE???

Poongko was 3rd at Evo 2011, 7th at Evo 2012.

Humanbomb was 5th at Evo 2012. Yeah poor poongko won't make it back again in top 8 for the 3rd year in a row.

And don't use the lame EVO points excuse, we all know it's SUPER BIASED towards california. Poongko traveled all the way from Korea to France for WGC where he played 4th, in a tourney with a lot of top players from Europe (Alioune, Ryan Hart, Luffy), Japan (Tokido, Mago, Itabashi) and Gamerbee.

Poongko beat Dieminion and Luffy in that tourney, but apparently that's worth less than finishing 16th in socal regionals or Keits' tourney LOLOLOLOLOL

You would think to put like Humanbomb, Poongko, Kai, or Kim1234 into those brackets but instead stack them together in bracket D2...

#45
spotlesseden said on July 1, 2013 at 8:03 p.m.

some interesting MVC3 pools

I16 - J wong, Shadyk, Frb-gotsu(Japanese player at around ShadyK's level) J wong shouldn't have problem wit them. ShadyK may have some problem like last year.

j2- Clockw0rk, Vx dante, Jeo(the best Japanese Morrigan?)

L16 - Eg floe, Nemo, Mike Ross

Two Australia players in J4 pool is just wrong.

I bet the reason that SFxTEK has as many players is because everyone knows how to play it and is just entering to just for an easy shot at money.

#55
Gotomaster said on July 1, 2013 at 9:08 p.m.

@53 but then there would be a lot of people entering Injustice, considering it is a new game, and the much more simple game. To enter requires money, and I doubt none top players would want to enter a game they do not play all that much, especially considering there isn't any comeback mechanic in Sfxt. Pretty sure the numbers are mostly towards people actually playing the game.

EVO ORGANIZERS NEED TO FIX SF4 POOLS A20 / D2 / D14 WHICH HAVE MULTIPLE TOP PLAYERS.

Below are notable players for SF4 and pool assignment. I'll make an update later with all of the potential early eliminations & predictions for top players listed.

A1 Infiltration
A10 Kichijojiken
A11 Laugh
A13 Daigo (Listed twice for some reason. I think this is actually the correct assignment)
A14 PR Rog
A18 Kyabetsu
A20 Kazunoko / Eita / Jayce
B6 Tokido
B9 Fuudo
B10 JWong
B19 Momochi
C1 Chris G
C2 Bonchan
C8 Daigo (I think this is erroneous)
C10 Xian
C14 Wolfkrone
C15 MOV
C17 Mago
C20 Ricky
D2 Poongko / Humanbomb
D14 Dogura / Dakou
D15 Xiao Hai
D16 Uryo
D18 Haitani
D21 Valle
E3 Sako
E7 Gamerbee
E10 F Champ
E12 Latif
E16 Mike Ross

@54 Bye is an empty spot in the bracket. If there is someone who is matched up against a "Bye" in a bracket it means they do not have to play that match and move on to the next match automatically.

#65
Shinebox said on July 1, 2013 at 9:45 p.m.

Someone said Baised towards California. I'm incline to agree. Find another top player or even one you have heard of in Alex Valle's pool.

This is what happens when you downsize the number of seeding events

#66
Echo01 said on July 1, 2013 at 10:13 p.m.

Kinda sad that Tekken's numbers are so low. SCV pulled in more players than that last year if I'm not mistaken, and Tekken undoubtedly has the bigger playerbase. What happened?

#67
nooshy1 said on July 1, 2013 at 10:15 p.m.

I really hope those aren't the final KOF numbers. I don't wanna believe over half of the entrants last year were there just for the shirt.

#68

ChrisG and Wolfrone have a hard pool too.
Itazan gief and DarkWolf are not an easy out.

@#67 Last years brackets: http://evo2012.s3.amazonaws.com/brack...
SCV was around 335, so a little less than TTT2 this year.

#71

Based largely on pool assignments, bracket progression and prior history of player matchups, this is the most likely scenario for top 8:

Any four of these players:
Infiltration
Daigo
Kazunoko
Tokido
Fuudo
Bonchan

AND

Any four of these players:
Xian
Wolfkrone
Mago
Xiaohai
Gamerbee

BY THE WAY - it says the brackets are not finalized. JUST FYI

#77
TedTesty said on July 1, 2013 at 10:52 p.m.

Eita or Kazunoko will definitely be changed.
That change has the potential to upset a few Top 8 predictions

#78
Smorgasboard said on July 1, 2013 at 10:54 p.m.

AE maybe be stale but it's not going anywhere.

Marvel will probably not go anywhere but only because the players have nothing else to play.

I hope the next version of smash will be at EVO next year.

Injustice is here to stay for better or worse.

SFxT needs an update to survive the long run but the numbers aren't too bad.

KOF doesn't have bad numbers either but an update won't help it.

The rest are finished as far as EVO is concerned. MK is finished as far as everyone is concerned.

how do they actually make the brackets? I guess this is random with a few exceptions because of seeding points? well in any case I guess we shouldn't be considering outcomes for these brackets as these won't be the final brackets...or maybe they won't change it anymore? xD

i want Kazunoko to go to infiltration's pool for the fix.

#84
TedTesty said on July 1, 2013 at 11:09 p.m.

@#84 Won't happen. Why? Because Kaz and infiltration have Evo seeding points. That's the sole purpose of the points. Based on that, I think Eita will be the one that is moved to a different pool. But if it's like Latif and Daigo last year, it will just be the next pool over.

#85
spotlesseden said on July 1, 2013 at 11:12 p.m.

Jayce the Ace has evo points too, then why Kazunoko is in his pool?

infiltration vs Kazunoko round 1, Hype.

#86
TedTesty said on July 1, 2013 at 11:12 p.m.

Good point. They'll move Kaz then instead of Eita. lol
But to where. We need a list of all the EVO seeded players. lol

#87
TedTesty said on July 1, 2013 at 11:20 p.m.

Found the EVO Seeding list: http://evo.shoryuken.com/seeds/
Kazunoko isn't on it even though he got 9th at SEAM, so that's why he's incorrectly seeded.

#88
getsaltier said on July 1, 2013 at 11:20 p.m.

Some interesting tidbits from the SF4 pool assignments:

1. Daigo vs Infiltration will very likely happen at top 32 unless there is an early upset for either player.

2. For one of the best 3 US players (JWong, PR Rog & Chris G) to win Evo, they will very likely have to beat one of the prior Evo winners by top 16.

3. Pool A20 is very stacked with Kazunoko, Eita & Jayce the Ace.

4. Gamerbee & Xian who have very high recent tournament placements are placed far away from prior Evo winners and imo one of them is very likely to make top 3.

5. It is impossible for all three prior Evo winners to place in top 3 for this year.

Bajas said on July 2, 2013 at 1:43 a.m.

As of this post, Poongko is listed in both D2 and D3, so D2 might not be as stacked as it first looks, if he ends up in D3 after all

#98
TedTesty said on July 2, 2013 at 1:47 a.m.

@#97 "So Infiltration vs Kaz will happen before Top 32"
Actually, I misread, it will happen 1st match of Top 32. Assuming neither player lose.

#99
getsaltier said on July 2, 2013 at 1:51 a.m.

The biggest problem I have with the Evo pool assignments is that the seeding system doesn't necesesarily reflect actual skill level (but more about tournament attendence). This is quite visible in the pool assignments for SF4.

There are obviously clumps of close number pools that are much tougher than others due to the seeding system. This results in good players (that don't attend seeding tournaments) getting eliminated early while questionable players stay on longer.

Frequent tournament players would hate it but changing the seeding system for Evo would definitely be a benefit for the viewers by providing better quality of match ups.
