The SoCal Regionals 2013 tournament stream was a fairly different production than what we have seen in the fighting game community, we were at EventHubs were wondering what the readers though of the event overall.Highest concurrent viewership I've seen for a FGC major was for CEO last year, getting just over 26.5k. #SCR2013 can surely eclipse this :D
So, what were your thoughts on the events stream? Let us know if you liked, or didn't like all the new things Level|Up implemented in the comment section below.
Everything was perfect except the cameraman distracted sometimes and the music sucking. I love how flawless the 720p was. Lighting and the fact that everyone looked comfortable made it look very professional. This was a golden brick on the road to EVO.
The interviews "before" the matches were terrible. People were awkward in almost all of them. Killer Kai status.
Oh and that Red Rapper song that kept playing non stop, forced me to mute the volume.
Besides that everything else was great.
The interviews were....okay. But that song was too much. And flashing SCR 2013 like I'm watching an ESPN channel was so cheesy.
Also, was ST not streamed?
The interviews were done lousy and the subscribe to chat was whack but that was about it.
There was nothing wrong the the music really, people just hate it because it is from Red Rapper and everyone has to hate on rap and then think they are cool when they listen to their emo songs.
With that said, maybe play some SF themes or MvC3 themes next time? Because those are the only games anyone seems to care about.
Production was GREAT 10/10
Player interviews "awkwardness" will only get better in time. Its something different that players are not used to so of course it will appear awkward.
Cameraman was gdlk.
Interviews were hit and miss for the most part. Some were interesting, some were complete time wasters. Overall, it was a good attempt in the right direction.
The worst part were breaks and "transitions" with the same audio all weekend.
Everything was AMAZING! I expressed on twitter how fighting game streams and events are raising the bar at every new major event. So proud. :')
Overall, I pretty much enjoyed the whole stream. Some complaints:
- The obnoxious jump in volume/sound whenever they would transition into an interview or video clip. AJ didn't realize this until the 3rd day or something.
- Minor complaint, but there was some pretty long wait times between the exhibition sets. It's understandable to have those intermissions during fighting game switches, but was it really necessary to do that when they're just switching in new players?
- Another personal complaint, but I just felt that they gave Kingofsarus too much screen time. I understand the level up crew is trying to capture the hype, but half the crap he was doing felt forced and unnecessary. Do you guys really need to zoom in on his face and fighting game memes on an iPad every other round during UMvC and AE?
Gootecks made it awkward. Props to him trying to hype things up, but no. Just ask the questions professionally and then the player can show his personality if he wants to. Don't force it out.
BTW, one of the best streamed event ever!
Agreed that it was really awesome that there's someone behind the crowd/player cam...it really makes the stream monsters feel the energy of the place.
The interviews were awesome also...as long as the interviewer knows their fighting games they can do interviews.
Production level is as high as evo.
They were awful. Please don't do that again. Made the tournament run so much longer for no reason except to give the viewer a bathroom break.
The whole thing was great i think that these interviews and behind the scene look at everything should become a formality something that is always done.
It was all pretty nice. Some of the camerawork got screwed up and AJ had a different video for that one black guy... but :P
revolvingsun- OFFICIALLY confirmed to hate anything and everything and never has one damn good thing to say. Can we start having an ignore button, Eventhubs? I know he is probably just a troll that lives to get under people's skin and start fights, but I can only stomach so much of this ******* *****.
I think the constant interviews with players was good, and it'll get less awkward with time.
I do think the interviews are much better conducted in front of a wall, and not just hassling players in between matches while they're still sitting down. Wait till the end of the set, then get their thoughts.
It's headed in the right direction. The stream quality was superb. They have set the standard going forward in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed that stream.
@7
I love rap. I can't stand RedRapper. I find it amusing that you'd defend his stuff as rap when it's really just cheesy nerdcore bs disguised as rap. And his voice sucks.
1. Some of the interviews were good, some OK, some TERRIBLE. Interviews while players are actually sitting down ready to play seemed particularly bad.
2. Commentary/Cameras etc. were really great apart from zooming in on that annoying black guy all the time (yeah sometimes it can be funny with the horse head or whatever, but nobody needs that much attention).
3. Music was awful, what's worse is the same song was on repeat for 30+ mins at times.
Overall amazing event.
My pros and cons:
The stream quality was fairly good, and the interviews were sometimes interesting and/or funny. The lighting and atmosphere was good.
The overall online presentation (with the SCR logo displayed in between matches) was professional looking and attractive, but the music proved repetitive and annoying.
If you're going to have 20-30 minute breaks between exhibition sets, some sort of contingency would be really appreciated. This could be anything from showing matches from side-tournaments, showing fan-created content like some nice combo videos, down to just keeping the cam on the event so that we can appreciate some of the vibe.
Also, you NEED to have clear and updated brackets regularly visible to the viewers, especially when matches are taking place offstream. This is something tournaments still haven't got the hang of but is always the most important thing to me as a spectator.
I think the esports stuff like interviews, player intros and transitions are fine if done well. That wasn't always the case at SCR though. The interviews were pretty stilted and cringe worthy for the most part. I love Gootecks, but in that environment he just sounds kinda bored and disingenuous.
The sound mixing wasn't great. People wearing headphones regularly had their ear drums blown out by a sudden transition to a video that was far too loud. This was a pretty regular occurence.
There was some serious downtime at a few points with the same song playing continuously on a loop. This would have been a good time for interviews and such.
That said, the stream looked perfect and ran smoothly, there were a lot of hype matches and overall it was a fantastic tournament to watch. Just a few areas to work on which are understandable as the FGC is pretty new to this style of presentation.
I was at the major itself for the first and 3rd day. When I was at home watching the stream on the second day that one song that kept playing was annoying after the 5th play. If possible please make more than one song, preferably instrumentals, or a playlist to play in between matches. It seemed to drag on forever with that endless loop. Also, I'm not sure if AJ was trolling or not but there were ridiculous audio spikes when transitioning between videos during breaks. Overall the transitions were TOO LONG. I appreciate that it gives viewers a chance to grab a snack, or do some other business but I was able to do that with several time left over.
That aside, it was great. Give the interviews some time and I'm sure the players and interviewers will grow into it similar to how commentating has become. The cameraman needs to stop focusing on one person so much (KingofSarus) and I think he finally got that towards the third day and include more shots of the crowd reactions itself during those comeback moments. Overall I say it was a great experience and I can't wait to see how this paves the road for upcoming majors.
Interviews done at the stream station were awkward. The pre-match interviews done between the two players were good though. Presentation was the best I've seen from an fgc-related event. Player cam could use some work, but I think it should still be included.
Overall it was great.
The only thing I wasn't particularly fond of was pre-game interviews, they kinda mess up with players' focus and you could really see it.
Post-game they're great though and I think those should stay, you get to know what were their strategies and thinking - like Infiltration saying he wouldn't switch char during Grand Finals because few people play Yun in Korea and he got to practice.
The stream quality was pretty good. Had some down time but that's normal. What I hated was the 20 minute breaks with that one song playing with a blank background. Show a crowd shot for 20 minutes or something. I did not like the Gootecks interviews because the players did not take them serious. Too much e-sports for me. Just get straight to the matches and get hype.
yea... interviews while players are sitting down is really bad, for them and for us both i think,
some interviews questions were very generic, uninteresting, and almost pointless
for the music, just putting on any retro classic fighting game hits is way more classy than whatever else you could put on, even a long enough playlist is easily manageable
other than that, everything else in #24
pretty amazing event overall
Kingofsarus was hilarious. Anyone that complains about him are just haters. He's just having fun.
The music that was played wasn't bad. It was just played WAY too often and WAY too long. ANYTHING that gets played that long and that many times will just drive people insane.
My biggest complaint were the intermissions. They were the biggest waste of time. Those could've been matches. There were WAY too many and WAY too long. It was actually really annoying.
Other than that it was really good. I liked the interviews too.
It was all very professional and well put together. My only cons were the music choices. Redrapper is a disgrace to the genre of rap. I liked the long breaks in between as they allowed me to eat, nap, or do whatever I needed to do in between the matches.
It was fantastic, I don't know how anyone could complain. It was amazing, and unarguably one of the most exciting tournaments of the year, despite people not shouting the N word and expletives over and over. We were always provided with great commentary, and although some of the interviews might have been a little awkward, over all I found them funny.
It showed very easily how the FGC could go esports and retain the hype, the little kiddies that just want drama and fighting and the overall ghetto-ness that is prevalent right now don't actually want what is best for the community and its players.
@40 Kingofsarus was funny at Evo, but he was annoying at SCR. It's one thing to make the signs and entertain people, which is fine and adds to the atmosphere, but it's another to constantly try to make yourself the center of attention on the player cam. I hope Level Up and other organizers make an effort to limit that type of distraction in the future.
- exhibitions matches were great. theme idea is good too but switch it up sometimes, hearing the same thing over and over gets annoying.
- more shout outs to sponsors, they are the reason we even get to see these tournaments, high levels players and games (like the mention game center got was nice)if it wasnt for that, i wouldnt even have known wtf gc was. and that money the owner put out would have might as well be in the dumpster.
this should also help to increase to prize pool, these people work their ass off to be #1, and i just feel the prize money is too low for their efforts.
(was the first place prize literally a madcatz stick?, so that means they work their ass off to be #1 was worth just 200$ and some bragging rights? might as well put that time and effort into a minimum wage job. players and organizers need more incentives.
do not do subscriptions though, i feel the money made from these fees in exchange for the lost of viewership may do more harm than help. (tho i'm speaking from theory, not experience, so i dont know)
oh the off chance i am completely off and the organizers and players are making decent earnings. what exactly are they doing than?
anyways, event was awesome. loved all the sf4 stuff, and bit of the mvc3. guess the only thing is, some of the lesser known games, i have no idea what i am watching, and i kind of close the stream, thank god for the schedule.
tl:dr, just read it u lazy bum ^
Hey guys. Glad most of you enjoyed the stream. We tried a lot of new stuff we hadn't tried before, some of it worked/some didn't.
On the interviews: This was really new for both the interviewees and the interviewers, since it wasn't done since last SCR. I think by the middle of day 2 we did show some improvement.
Audio: I know sometimes the audio on the interviewer was loud and low for the players. I was on the mixer, and since this was also heard by the live audience I tried to mix so that the stream viewers and live audience could hear. I do know that I did mess up on this at times. Also I did miss cues on turning up commentators mics and game sound, but I got better at it as the event progressed.
In terms of the video audio, that was just a result of us not testing before the broadcast. In the future this won't be an issue.
Downtime: This was a big issue, especially between exhibitions. There was a reason for this during the exhibitions, but for the same song being used there was a reason for that. One of our other music tracks was glitching out our production hardware so we stuck with the same song. I think we mitigated this issue on Finals day by showing the feed from the second stream instead of just the music and rotating logo.
Anyway, feel free to hit me up. AJ and I put in a ton of work prepping and running this stream and we have tons of ideas for the fun.
The presentation was truly fantastic, Level|Up really outdid itself with everything. Stream quality was great, the transitions between everything were real smooth, the player profiles were cool and I hope to see more of those in the future, and the camera work was top-notch. The interviews were mostly hit or miss, but people will become more used to being interviewed over time so that's not a huge deal. While KingOfSarus did get a tad TOO much attention, there was no harm done and he provided a good number of laughs. No real issue there. No issue with the subscriber-only chat either. Didn't bother me one bit.
However, I will agree with previous comments that pre-match interviews were noticeably throwing players off, and some looked like they just wanted to get to playing rather than deal with questions. I'd like to see those scratched and stick to post-match interviews, and perhaps interviews during down time. This bring me to my next con; the down-time. There was A LOT, it felt way too Esports-like. The intermissions were more frequent than what you'd normally see during an FGC stream. At the very least, that time should be filled with things like interviews and videos. What we got instead was the same music and the same hype video being played over and over.
Overall, SCR2013 was great and I hope more events in the future can have that level of quality. Big props to Valle, AJ, and the rest of the Level|Up crew!
I thought overall it was pretty good. Majority of the people being interviewed didn't know how to properly talk into the mic so you often only heard the interviewer. The sound levels definitely needed some tweaking though. It would go from low to incredibly loud. This was usually when they played the music though. Music choice was decent. It could of been better, but then again we aren't watching it for the music. And keep in mind it could of been way worse.
Also KingofSarus was GODLIKE! I hope they never force him off the camera. Tue crowd monstering aas a really fun part of the whole experience for me.
The interviews were mediocre at best, lots of redundant questions.
There were far too many "intermissions" and they were far too long, most of the time. I noticed they got longer when a twitter message was flashed on screen saying "be back after a short intermission!"
The thing that pissed me off the most was the repeating of one music track during an intermission. I was dumbfounded by this because the level of production on everything else was very high, but they some how weren't able to put together a damn playlist?
Some of the trailers aired during the intermissions were cringe worthy and overly serious. They made it even worse by repeating these trailers every intermission, just like the music.
Everything else was well done.
I really enjoyed watching the event. That PSAS grand finals were HYPE and I've never even played the game.
#1 issue to be fixed: sound mixing. The MASSIVE volume jumps were jarring even on speakers.
The interviews were a nice way to mix things up. I preferred the commentators giving us the history during the pre-match and saving the interviews for after the match.
I didn't mind the crowdmonsters as much as the tablet memes. It was overused by the 3rd time I saw it.
Also, APOLOGYMAN. That is all.
KingofSarus was definitely trying too hard. it isnt fair to say that everyone who was annoyed or complained was just hating to hate. he was most certainly trying to get as much attention as possible and his pals up front were probably just as bad or even worse.
@ya_boy i bet a lot of the people who couldnt stand the RedRapper music and the other poorly made beats, listen to rap and genuinely find the music played on stream bad. just cause you're a fan of this new style of rap and liked the songs doesnt mean that everyone whos against your opinion listens to "emo rock" and pop music or whatever. ofcourse there was probably a few people who fit your category of haters who just want to hate but im sure the majority just found the music bad because of legit reasons.
Unghhh SCR stream...
Gootecks was terrible; the ladies were a lot better. Especially "Phoenix"; I was cracking up during half of her interviews.
Looooong interludes. 1+ hours to switch games? Blaring the same song over and over (at least the RedRapper instrumental sounded great - especially without RedRapper mucking it up).
Terrible sound volume control all weekend; had to be ready to mute at all times ;_;
Saurus was probably the worst part of the stream weekend; eventually I'd just minimize it when he was on.
Honestly, I'd rather just watch great matches; not too hot on the "extra" content.
Eitherway, thanks to Level Up for the stream. Lots of great matches.
I liked so much about scr. I thought the flashing SCR thing made it seem a little more authentic. the interviews were a little awkward but that will work it self out and I loved all the back and forth between the commentators and gooteks ... keep it up, and I cant wait to see more.
I found the stream to be enjoyable. The only thing that I'd like to see made changed are more 'hyper' exhibition matches, like the Infiltration vs Latif being a blow out made for a cruddy final card for the day. Sure, it's impossible to know that Latif would do that bad but why have him against Infiltration? When he was sick too. (Went to the hospital when he arrived too if I remember correctly)
Other than that, the interviews could use a bit of work as some of the people were nervous, but it is new so it is understandable (I know I'd be nervous lol, maybe just skip it entirely if that's the case?). And the music...needs more variety, it would make the constant and rather long intermissions more bearable.
Overall it was different than other streams, but in a good way. Keep the subscriber only chat and I'd pay for it next year as well. ;D
Best production I've seen as well.
For the first time I've seen at a major, having the interviews was awesome. I liked that the questions came from twitter. However, the interviews should be during the button checks, therefore not interviewing the player who is just about to be on stream. I think that will save a bit of time.
The breaks that occurred were fine, but I wish they didn't say "be right back", maybe just give us a rough time estimate like in 20 minutes.
Commentary from stream 1 was awesome. Really good job to everyone.
I liked the camerawork and I actually feel a bit bad for King of Sarus because the camera maybe focused on him a bit too much and he's receiving some hate for that. Yes, I know he sat in the middle and wanted to be on camera, but there were multiple times where they zoomed in on him and I think that might have been the overkill for some people. Personally, I thought he was funny most of the time.
Other than that drop during the Marlin Pie vs Combofiend exhibition, the stream ran pretty smoothly.
I think the production can only get better from here on. And I hope people don't hate on the interviewers, people should try it themselves and see how to work with time constraints, and having information on a bunch of different people.
The stream was pretty good overall. Quality was good and I mostly enjoyed all the interviews. It's nice seeing players talk smack or talk about what's on the line before a match, cuz it's more exciting when you see what's at stake or who doesn't respect who. A interview before every match? I'm not sure about. They just need to keep in mind why we're there in the first place, to watch matches. I think they should save the interviews for top 8 or late top 16. I liked seeing interviews post game about hype matches or upsets like what they did with Apology man. The intermissions were long as hell it felt it like, and there were so many. I hope they can afford to cut that down.
Had a good laugh at all the funny smack talk there was. Gootecks and the ladies all did a solid job of knowing who they were talking to and what about.
Only problem was AJ making the videos and music on the breaks way damn too loud and the "short breaks" being like an hour long.
Day1 I almost blew my rape whistle, because of the crappiest hip-hop junk music I've ever encountered in my life being played over and over between breaks!! I'm glad they stopped them and played instrumentals only the next day.
KingOfSarus, from a watcher point of view was hilarious and funny as heck, my brother and friends were watching and laughing their asses off even though none of them know anything about fighting games or streams; It's not his fault trying too hard by sitting right in front the camera all the time, the audience-camera zoom should have done better, but audience camera was a really good thing to see in that tournament.
Gootecks, did better job the 2nd and 3rd day, he started making himself the star of each interview on 1st day and that did not look nice in my opinion. I know he was trying to make 'hype and excitement' but he forgot that he should shine the light on the players not himself.
On the other hand, the girls' interviews were awkward af, and looked as if they were just paid to do these interviews lacking all vital knowledge of the scene and games played. Nevertheless, IMO the Asian girl did better than the girl named, kelly.
The fake-hype was boo when it was disrespectful to the sport of gaming. Players should act their age and make things look as professional as possible, just like boxers touch gloves and hug after a fight.
Twitter snaps were a plus, but I thought their picks could've been better.
Finally, the commentary, UltraChen great as always, KOF was really great too, but markman looked tired and did not do TTT2 justice :*(.
I 100% loved everything involved with the players playing games. The interviews were hit and miss, although Kelly and Megumi both grew into the interviewer role as the weekend went on. Overall, it just made everything run too long and I felt it detracted from the reason I want to watch a stream: to watch the players play games.
The shoutouts to the sponsors was a good idea to make sure the sponsors get enough exposure (especially since I've worked on a stream where a sponsor got pissed that we didn't mention them enough), although I disliked that everyone got a little blurb in their shoutout except for Atlus.
I feel that in the grand scheme of pushing the fgc into a bigger more esports-like event, the interviews etc are good. One recommendation is to NOT SHOW PLAYERS COLLECTING SIDE BET MONEY ON STREAM. I'm referring to the camera angle on the audience after a match is completed. From an audience and player point of view, the flow of the matches really dragged on. I Viscant and Dios X kept mentioning it when I spoke to them on the way out. Instead of doing the interviews live, maybe do the interview during the previous match and just replay the interview inbetween matches during button checks so when it's over they can start the match right away. I also feel that when this get much bigger, on a scale similar to LOL and Starcraft etc, cameras showing players faces and hands might be more appealing to audience members just getting into fighting games. The video of those 2 angles could be small boxes in irreverent parts of the screen so health, meter, name, timer, and characters are not blocked
Interviews
Keep the pre game interviews to a min and have the commentators elaborate on the match post game. Maybe interview the player a match beforehand?Possibly have one of the two commentators do the pre/post interview because gootecks is not cutting it and its awkward.
Crowd Hype
Hand out stuff to the crowd so everyone can hold something up instead of just the guy in the middle. Or let all the cosplay and/or hype people have the priority front row seating
Music
If you don't like it mute it but we should be supporting each other in the community. Red Rapper seems to be the only one trying, how about you?
Chat
I didn't pay for it but I like the idea. Keep it subscriber only.
Stream
Quality of the stream was good, enough said. Selection of matches should be by character matchup, player hype, rarity of character selection for the early rounds. Maybe predetermine them as soon as the brackets are finished?
I would also like to add that for the people watching on stream, if they could have 2 streams of the main events. One with the formal style of commentary involving UltraChen, and a second stream thats more entertaining like team Rush Hour. For marvel the 2nd stream can be Chris Matrix and Combofiend or Yipes and Tasty Steve etc.
@Catalyst, so you felt there was no audio issues at all? I'd like to see how you felt about the audio as it really was the only problem.
I still think Spooky does the best job running a stream and keeping his audience entertained, but it's good to see other people stepping up. At the end of the day its about the matches and the player/crowd reactions, so things like interviews, music, fancy player cams, nice graphics don't change whether or not an event is entertaining or not.
Overall I thought it was a good stream.
I think that were a great start to make the stream more accessible to viewers who aren't avid fighting game enthusiasts.
I enjoyed the interviews, reminded me of how WWE was back in the 80s, cheesy and slightly serious. Very entertaining. The hype especially in the Rog/Chris G match was gdlk.
I loved the break music. I wonder who made that beat? If anyone has a clue, let me know.
I loved the entire stream. The only thing I can really complain about are the bit pauses in the stream to switch things up. I love the SCR song but you can only hear a song so much before it gets a little redundant. If possible get some Akira the Don or Minibosses music on the stream. They both do game themed music.
Other than that the interviews while uncomfortable were good and if the interviews become more of regular occurance then I think the players will get better at them. The interviewers like Gootecks and the other two girls were really good as well. I think this is a model should be used and honed throughout the tournament season
Don't show us interviews.... every interview I've ever seen within the FGC is horrible. They never ask the pressing questions, don't hold interest, and are always so fan based.
I want hard pressed, thought provoking questions that pull my attention and hold it.
Top quality stream, it looked great, really professional. Just if there is going to be a long intermission just play more then one song, I actually liked the song playing just hearing it on repeat was a bit much. The interviews were ok but with more practice I'm sure they would be better. All up I thought it was great.
The show was good , but :
-there was way too much time to find player. They took like 30min just to switch beetween AE and Marvel.
-They even take 20 min more to switch between commentators.
-EVen if i liked the music @ the beginning , day 3 i mute it.
Interviews was goodtoo , but i like spooky style stream over this cuz the action never stop, transition are shorter.I am sure if u put all the intermission time together u will reach easily 4hour.
Well, the interviews were terrible... The player cams were pretty darn cool. The stream was satisfactory.
The only interview that was the best....was the Tekken Ball 1st and 2nd place winners. Funniest thing ever.
That is all.
The West Coast FGC is trying so hard to be accepted by E Sports to the point where they've sold their soul and removed all of the things that make grassroots tournaments exciting. Every interview was awkward, unnecessary, or trying to force hype, except the ones given by Mike Ross. He was the only person to maintain professionalism throughout the event while still being legitimately interesting. There was a barrier to separate players from spectators. Didn't SRK ridicule MLG for doing this same exact thing? Long 40 minute breaks for absolutely no reason. You could see the players sitting there like WTF is going on? To top it all off, you have EVO staff threatening to ban KingofSarus for getting too hype. Wait, isn't that what this community is supposed to be about? Expressing your excitement without fear of oppression? He broke no rules and kept his distance from the players. Are we forgetting the Marvel 2 days where everything but fisticuffs was legal?
All in all the tournament itself was amazing in regards to the matches, but the forced "hype" and fake esports attitude needs to stop. That's not what this community is about.
Great overall event.
I didn't like the long intermissions, but they aren't all that bad. Allows people to take breaks here and there, they were a little too frequent.
I suggest that maybe between those long intermissions they have some kind of mini event. No idea what. They just kept running the same commercials over and over.
KingOfSaurus was annoying, he was fine this past EVO but went overboard on this SCR... but it's w/e.
The interviews were a little awkward, I didn't like when Gootecks asked the crowd to clap. Just get on with the interview. He'll get better at it, I would've preferred Mike, though. Kelly and Megumi were alright, they didn't ask any interesting questions, for the most part.
Spooky style stream is really nice, take a few notes from him.
*Also, Co-sign @Wulfsten.
I personally muted every single interview after the first few on day one; it was just too awkward, and I personally don't feel like it's needed up until say Top 3. I think it slows down the tournament unnecessarily, for players and spectators.
Also, AJ needs to keep his eyes in his head when women walk by.
Great transitions between shots, really upped the production value on this one; good work Level Up! :)
watched the whole thing. gootecks interviews and phoenix interviews = good
You know i dont listen to much rap, but red rapper was pretty good. I actually enjoyed the awkwardness of the interviews, it put everyone in a weird position they werent used too. I actually streamed on friday and went to irvine on saturday and sunday, and everything was great. It should go without saying that the production value of the event and stream was amazing. Something that bothered me was the some of the players were annoyed by kingofsarus while ricky ortiz talking at the event made me want to rip my ears off
I loved the entire tning, the interviews, the music, the cameras. Was really good. I hope they do something like that again.
#74 Agreed on that, the whole WWF event formula was on the spot...the(after fight) interviews were a nice addition and could be improved with more work, stream quality:excellent, etc. The clowns antics were f*ckin lame and I disliked the view of him sitting right in the damn center in between players yucking it up like an idiot. The mascot/RLT idea is fun and would be great for future events if they would hire some better entertainment (:P)
Oh yeah, they gave that guy in the crowd way too much attention. He was mostly annoying from start to finish... he had a few funny moments but way too much attention
English isn’t my first language; please don’t be grammar nazi with me!
The SCR2013 production was AWESOME, the venue was perfect, the quality of the stream was perfect (sound glitches are understandable), KingOfSaurus was perfect 98% of the time, the “unblockable” ads were great and that’s the way to go (they are relevant, not random, and support the event crew directly).
The greatest idea in my humble opinion was the interviews/commentary taking place in-between matches, since they skipped 60% of the button check time and character pick. I don’t know if that was the intention, but it worked very well. I know that some of them were awkward, but when I watch soccer, the interviews are even more awkward and we all enjoy that!
About the timing of the interviews, I think they can be done pre-match, post-match, whenever, the players should adapt to this “new age”, cuz if they want the paper, they need to get used to this kind of things. The talk can’t take them out of their focus, and more, they should be grateful for the opportunity to talk about them and about their sponsors to the audience whenever they have the chance to do so! If I were a sponsor or a sponsored player, that’s something I’d look into (Fanatiq is a MASTER in this art and every player should use him as a model lol).
Well, the only negative point in everything was the infinite loop of that same music! I have nothing against the tune, the event should support who support them, and RedRapper is exactly this: a guy who supports the scene! Moving on, I won’t say that the tune DESTROYED, OBLITERATED, RUINED the enjoyment of the stream (like some guys said), but it’s a very little detail that, if they improve in SCR 2014, will make this 9.95 event become a 10!
If I could make two suggestion, that’s what I’d say to the level up crew:
1) you should use some game soundtrack in the intermissions (some guy said exactly the same thing above). They are the easiest and obvious pick. You can put the event tune here and there, but you should play Esaka and Guile theme too!
2) you could use “replays” during the longer intermissions. It’s pretty understandable that some intermissions should be longer, I’m OK with that, but you guys could record some notable offstream matches and broadcast them during those intermissions (without commentary, we’re OK with that), rebroadcast the previously streamed matches, or play some random XBL replays (lol). I don’t know if this is manageable, but would be good for the viewers.
Fantastic, especially when AE was on. Chen and David did a great job as usual. However, I was unable to stream 720p+ from the UK and had to notch it down.
Came for AE and Marvel, stayed for KingofSarus.
The dude was so entertaining, I swear, he made the stream so much better.
