Xbox Live Arcade players have been patiently waiting for the Skullgirls 1.01 Slightly Different Edition patch to drop for some time now. It has recently been reported by XBLA Fans that the reason for this huge delay is actually due to Microsoft's XBLA update file size limit. "The update for Lab Zero's XBLA Skullgirls patch is around 590 MB and the size limit for Microsoft's updates is a maximum of 4 MB".
You sliiiiightly overshot the limit there Lab Zero....just slightly.
Why don't they just release as a compatibility/free essential add on in the market place , instead of an auto update/patch upon logging in ?
590mb is a bit much for a patch/slightly different edition .... i wonder if new characters/ bits of new characters are hiding in there for dlc plans later ?
Just release the Majority of patch as some form of DLC for free(or make it ridiculously cheap if it makes the process easier). Make the Patch drastically smaller that only reminds players that the DLC update is out and go to Marketplace to download that 500 Mb+ size
They should've broken it up, or Microsoft should increase the limit.
Skullgirls feels like the fighting game version of 38 studios.
+ Two guys start a game with great ideas.
+ Team is assembled.
+ Publisher signs on!
+ Game released!
- Community complains about art-style
- IPS purposely broken, game becomes infinite-driven.
- Community shuns game for lack of characters despite never giving the game a chance to show its depth.
- Producers fire staff.
- New characters prove harder with lack of staff and community ambivalence.
- Patch is delayed. And delayed. And delayed.
- Community complains.
The FGC really has to re-analyze the way we treat Indie developers who are, really, just our own and trying their best. The cards are stacked against them, yet we weight them against studios like Capcom. And make fun of them like we're competing against them at a 90's XMvSF tournament. It's kinda sickening.
Best of luck, Z and staff. Keep fighting damn it.
I agree with you mrdrofficer. We really need to cut the indie developers some slack, because they're not a big company like Namco or Capcom. Their budgets and resources are much more limited. They are trying their best guys. What they need is your support.
@13 How do you know the fee is "ridiculous"? Are you a Microsoft exec? Do you know their expenses involved? Maybe it is ridiculous and they're just cost gouging, but you have no idea. Sorry, I'm just sick of the know-it-all comments with no perspective behind them from this community.
590MB? That's half the size of the game. What kind of update is it? Were they planning on it being DLC? There's no way you can make a 590MB mandatory Title Update. It's just way too big. You can't even do that for a retail game. The biggest TU ever is a 10th of the size of this patch. The only way for something that big to be delivered is to be DLC and I feel like they would have to charge for something if they went that route. I don't think I can even blame MS. Their policies may suck but information about this stuff is readily available for developers. I feel like this is all part of poor planning or not paying careful attention to details.
Why shouldn't we expect the same from them as from Capcom? I've been seeing this happen so much over the years. For some reason, MvC3 was incomplete because it has no spectator mode but KOF13 was perfect without it. It's a major problem when SFxT has on-disc DLC characters but KOF13 had it too. And data for them were found on the KOF12 disc. People complain that Capcom is greedy because there are so many versions of SF4, but ASW has more versions of BB and charges more for them. I think we need to take off our rose-tinted glasses when it comes to non-Capcom games.
"Mr D You want us to fund them or something?"
In passing, we should try to help them make the game we want. If that requires a kickstarter, then f#($ yeah! If the people want it, we'll help make it. Seems fair.
@23 wtf?! "MvC3 was incomplete because it has no spectator mode but KOF13 was perfect without it" kof13 doesnt even have lobbies...you cant expect a huge company like capcom thats been around for like 15+ years to project zero thats no where near as big as capcom and doesnt even have money unlike capcom...."ASW has more versions of BB and charges more for them." thats a lie,all the updates on bbcs and bbcs2 were free ...omg so much is wrong with your post.
and this is just one of the many reasons i jummped off the scrapbox bandwagon.
@25
""ASW has more versions of BB and charges more for them." thats a lie,all the updates on bbcs and bbcs2 were free ...omg so much is wrong with your post."
He's right you know:
BBCT - $60
BBCS - $40
BBCS2 - Free
BBCSE - $40
That alone is more than the SFIV series. Not to mention the 3 DLC characters for $8 a pop and all the frivolous DLC like colors or announcers that actually trumps Capcom's SFIV costume crap in price and volume.
@29 ct was 50 unless you bought the limited edition.the characters were 3 dollars the 1st 2 weeks thhey were out.i was actually talking about the version updates 1.00-1.07 which were free
@29
Your both wrong
BBCT - $60
full color pack - $5
BBCS - $40
3 dlc characters - $24
full color pack - $5
BBCS2 - Free
BBCSE - $40
full color pack - $5
Total- $179
SFIV - $60
SSFIV - $40
full costume pack - $18 (more if you paid separately)
SSFIVAE - free
full costume pack2 - $18 (more if you paid separately)
SSFIVAEv2012 - $40
full costume pack3 - 18 (more if you paid seperately)
Total - $194
Not to mention the online strategy trailers for akuma, abel, ryu, and several other characters - $10. Avatar costumes and other shennaningans.
Capcom loves idiots like you that blindly defend them and give them money. Stay pro in your ignorance cause your free everywhere else.
CT was still only $50. And CS is the fricking SEQUEL to CT.
That's like counting Tekken 6 as an update to T5:DR.
Yes, CSE was the update to CS.
@6 Have you been sleeping all this year or what ? Everybody knows that Street Fighter X Tekken's DLC characters are already on the disc.
I own this game on X-Box. Does anyone think I can ever realistically expect the update patch or any DLC characters?
@40 That makes your comment on a news about the upload size limit of the XBLA very relevant. Thank you.
Is subtly insulting people the only way you know to get your point across ? Grow up.
