Mad Catz Japanese VS series fightstick featuring Sanwa Silent OBSF-30 push buttons and JLF joystick

Mark "MarkMan" Julio recently informed us of a Mad Catz VS series fightstick that many people may not know about and it is equipped the Sanwa Silent OBSF-30 push buttons and also a silent JLF joystick. This was teased quite a while back but we now know this model is only available in Japan and there are currently no plans to bring it state side.

Fortunately, MarkMan has provided us with the link to the Japanese Amazon page where it can be ordered from. This VS series fight stick runs for ¥ 19,800 or roughly $227 USD.

If ordering this stick isn't exactly in your budget or you'd like to have these buttons in one of your current sticks, however, you can visit Focus Attack and purchase the Sanwa Silent OBSF-30 buttons for only $3.45 each.

Be sure to hit the jump to check out a video demonstration comparing the noise level of the original Sanwa OBSF-30s to that of the silent ones. You can also find another video showing off both the buttons and silent JLF joystick after the jump.

Even at $227 this stick is great value. Not only does it include the silent Sanwa buttons, but the silent Sanwa joystick as well. FocusAttack sells the silent Sanwa stick joystick for $75 for anyone who is curious.

It's a shame this variant of the VS is not coming to the US.

Do they feel the same as normal buttons when you press them though?

I wasn't too sure about these silent buttons when I first heard about them. Now that I've seen that video, I might actually want to purchase some for my stick.

Yes it has the same feel except noticeable much less noisy. The Silent Joystick/Buttons i can see useful if your playing At Night and/or have people over at your place

I recently put these buttons and stick into my Qanba. They are much quieter than regular sticks and buttons and just as responsive. They do feel slightly different however, the stick is a little bit more loose than my other sanwa sticks, although not by much. Also the buttons have a slightly softer feel. These differences are not bad though and it honestly only took about 20 minutes to get used to them. I highly recommend both the stick and buttons.

^^ That should be a heads up to any hopefuls who thought they could purchase this from outside Japan.

I'd take that design over the ugly SFxT one anyday.

Have they sacrificed any lifespan/durability of the buttons for this noise reduction though.
Although the noise is cut in half , from the video i think it's still considered noisey enough to annoy anybody within hearing distance.

the videos aren't done well imo. it's much much quieter. in particular the stick.

the design is sick, they should have used that from the get go :<

now add dual-mod support and I'll buy it.

#15 what are you expecting? They are damn quiet compared to regular sanwas. When in the stick you just kind of hear a thud, similar to tapping a stick case with your fingers. These videos don't do them any justice. Was playing some casuals and a few people commented how they couldn't hear anything I was doing.

Just ordered mine. Just as important as the possible strategic advantage in future tournaments is the prospect of my wife now being able to sleep in on a Saturday morning while I play AE.

I hope this stuff becomes the norm soon, I hate the "non-ingame" aspects of offline play.

I like how Daigo plays - everything is within the game's visuals, nothing outside influences his play.

Call it quiet buttons instead of silent buttons. Problem solved.

I installed these on a Qanba Fusion Ivory. These do not feel the same as normal buttons, the cushions inside prevent the buttons from pressing all the way down.

However, $227 is a bit much for a stick that isn't dual modded and only works on one console. Buy an Eightarc $149 and the buttons $28... the JLF isn't as big of a concern with noise

I been wondering for some time now. are fighting sticks any better than a regular control pad? In my case, I grew up playing fighting games on my SNES and Playstation controllers, as opposed to those who played fighting games alot in arcades, so that's what I'm accostumed to, it's still a bit of a struggle for me to use my hori even after having it as long as I have.

I'm considering just going for a converter so I can play my fighting games with my PS3 controller (all my fighting games are on my 360 '_'; ) after seeing someone else play that way and do really well at it.

"Console Tactics" foiled?!

Oh you can just see BALA's crying face.

I expect the MadCatz Japan crew all using the silent stick for upcoming tournaments. Winning by listening to button inputs is lame. Head2Head or get off.

To Arcade Purest, arcade is dead, games are being played on consoles now. In Japan where arcade is still alive, they have head2head. Get over yourself.

Who told you that Daigo doesn't pay attention to his opponent if they're sitting next to him?

Having now installed the buttons I can honestly say they are well worth it and the noise reduction is huge. They do feel quite different but not in any way less responsive.

The stick is more tricky to install as you have to wire it up and it comes with no instructions (naturally). I doubt it will make as big of a difference and it was rather pricey (70 quid). So in short I agree with #28.
