Yoshinori Ono revealed one of his goals for 2013 — to expand the fighting game community by 10%. He didn't elaborate on the metrics Capcom is using to gauge this, but in typical fashion, he sounded energized about the prospect.
Ono: Good morning 1st day of New Year! My objective is to increase people [in the fighting game] community by 10% this year. ;D
Capcom has already made some of their plans known for the fighting game community in 2013, as they recently hired two well respected members of the FGC, bringing Neidel "Haunts" Crisan and Peter "Combofiend" Rosas on board.
They also setup a deal with IPL (IGN Pro League) to host tournaments for their fighters, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition and Street Fighter X Tekken, but they could potentially add other titles as well.
As far as major releases/updates go, only Darkstalkers Resurrection (March 14) and the v2013 update to Street Fighter X Tekken (Jan. 29) are known at this time, but as it's just the first day of the year, there could be a lot more revealed in the near future.
What do you think Capcom should do to expand and support the community? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
I think another gamstop type thing would be cool. Make it for sfxt2013 and sf4ae2012.
Lot more revealed in the year = darkstalkers 4. But don't forget kids, only if you buy the rehash of the old ones...
Capcom All-Stars: Let's Go Training
The biggest baddest Capcom IPs in a battle for supremacy. There will be two input modes. EO [Easy Operation using the right analog to store special moves] mode and Tourney [regular input] Mode. The ability to filter out the input modes when searching for online battles will enable EO guys to face themselves, and Tourney guys to face themselves if so desired, of course, EO could go up against Tourney guys, and the lifebars will tell what mode you're using.
This game will have EVERYONE from Capcom, and surprise characters from Arika.
Minds will be lown, hype will be generated and power countries. There will be parrying, FADC, glitches into supers.
It will be magnificent.
...
.....
......But then it will get ruined by some DLC tactic.
Which will get a Gold release with all DLC, and be sold at a cheaper price.
I don't really care about this stupid community, just keep giving me decent fighters to play and I'll be good.
Happy new year Everyone.
Well Capcom should announce DS4!!! For the Community, they need to support some majors and some great FG sites like this one. Because they are taking a lot of benefits from majors and FG sites.
#4, really interesting idea but not sure about EVERYONE, do you know how many characters capcom have? Not only fighters; Imagine characers from old games like Captain Commando, Cadillacs Dinosaurs, Final Fight, Punisher, Knights of the Round... + Characters from DMC, Resident Evil, Asura... lol
I think they're gonna have a brand new fighting game property, to separate the gameplay from the brands that casual players avoid (like Street Fighter or Marvel VS), and it's gonna be completely different from EVERY other fighting game.
1. No combos (all moves have hitstun and blockstun but you can always block stuff)
2. no meters other than the health meter
3. no character choice, EVERYBODY plays as the same guy (or girl) but he/she can be extremely customized.
4. no menus: you choose whether you wanna play online or use training mode or whatever simply by guiding your character to ingame buildings, such as a dojo (in order to train) or a dirty old pub (in order to fight people online) or a sport arena (in order to do arcade mode)
5. No sound. The entire game is silent.
6. No controller. You simply shout at the tv to tell your character what to do, like you're his trainer.
7. No graphics: the entire game is just a black screen.
In fact, this game is already pre-installed on all game consoles; you just turn off your console and it starts up!
Stuff Capcom can help with:
1) E-sports. If we can get fighting games to be on TV a lot (not just once or twice a month or year), we can get more viewers. Hopefully some of these viewers will turn into gamers.
Stuff Capcom probably can't help with
2) ARCADES. A lot of us started because of arcades. It gives us a place to meet and learn.
3) Removing the beef and stupidity. Hype is good, but we can all still be friends.
We might actually see that 10% increase considering AE and SFxT have been relatively dirt cheap these last couple of months. There could be a big influx of new players coming in 2013. Hell, AE is free for PSN+ users no?
Couple that with the IPL partnership and Capcom seems to be really pushing hard for the Fighting Game scene.
I thought it said "Ono looking to increase power by 10%" as if he's a Saiyan.
Good lick to Capcom on their mission but I see it being "How can we add more gimmicks to let newcomers into our game"
I can see two ways of doing this:
1. Make Capcom FGs esports and attract the "I want to be esports and make lots of money!" nitwits. Maybe that will happen.
2. Make a new good game. Unlikely.
There are many ways to increase the player base by 10%. Not all of them are related to tournaments though.
We need to kick out some of the existing community members first... kappa
Bring out a new Powerstone game or a Capcom crossover game that is similar to Powerstone 2. Stick characters in it from various popular franchises including fighting games, easy to grasp, fun as hell; 10% increase with no problem.
Bringing in people is not hard, its keeping them. Party games will attract kids but will not keep their attention.
Bring some deep "real" fighting games to the table and you will be able to keep peoples attention.
There's only one change he needs to do to reach that goal: stop recycling the ugly bloated garbage character models from SFIV. Easy, simple.
Better yet, also not have jump arcs so goddamn narrow and not have the screen move vertically every time someone jumps. Awful mechanics.
10% increase to FGC?
PUT IN CHARACTERS WE WANT. RESOLUTION ACHIEVED.
@30 a percentage of those people will be retain their interest in fighting games. Having party games is better than watering down your mainstream hardcore fighter. The latter appears to be a lose/lose situation.
An all capcom roster that plays like marvel,SF reps are a given, throw in some male darkstalkers like Talbain,Jedah,L.Raptor. some reps from the following, powerstone ,breath of fire ,god hand, chaos legion, asura's wrath, project justice, tech romancer, that chick from remember me, MEGAMAN and any other franchise that people have been asking for. No DLC stunts, a ton of modes, and they'll get way more than 10%.
They will fail at this until the producers of products stop picking crap that they want to see in it, and start doing stuff the COMMUNITY wants to see in it...
Until they put us first their will never be a chance.
