PR Balrog practicing every day over 8 hours a day in hopes of winning this year's EVO - feels confident against international players

PR Balrog practicing every day over 8 hours a day in hopes of winning this year's EVO - feels confident against international players Eduardo "PR Balrog" Perez has set his sights on winning this year's EVO title, he said in a recent interview with his sponsorship group, Evil Geniuses. Perez noted that's he's practicing every day, over 8 hours a day, in hopes of winning this year's EVO.

When asked about the deep talent pool of international competition, PR Balrog added that he feels confident against the overseas players, but said that Infiltration is very much still a concern.

The piece goes on to cover Eduardo's thoughts on the three major titles in the tournament scene, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken v2012, getting PR Balrog's opinion about each one and some of the past matches that happened at Winter Brawl 7. Here's a snip from the write up.

CoolGrayAJ: Your momentum right now is comparable to the momentum Justin had early in the year last year. Is there anything you’re afraid of moving forward?

PR Balrog: I’m not scared anymore. I’m trying my best to get that EVO title, and I’ll tell you right now – I’m going to be practicing every day, more than eight hours a day, and I’ll just keep going. Whether or not I win any more majors from here on out, my eyes are set on the EVO title.

CoolGrayAJ: What about against international competition? I mean not to take the steam out of you, but the international scene is still pretty deep.

PR Balrog: I feel like I’m the most confident out of anyone against international play, because I have a pretty good record against international players. Latif, Wolfkrone and I all have great histories against international play. I think right now, Infiltration is the one player I’m concerned about. Saying that though, I’ll be ready for him next time.

he can play online for 12 hours a day and it still wont mean anything. its not his fault its just that no one in the states plays the game anymore while its getting blown up in other places, euro/asia which he'll have to compete against and the consistent japanese players that always show up. xiao hai and humanbomb were just the beginning

Rog and Fei both lose to Akuma so not only will he have to outplay Infiltration he will have to overcome the disadvantageous matchup so unfortunately I don't see him winning Evo unless the pools are in his favor and someone else takes out Infiltration so he doesn't have to play him.

Tokido and Mago he both lost and won against, but there is still Daigo, Kazunoko, and Sako which I don't think he's ever faced in a tourney before.

SF4 is still my favorite fighting game to play right now followed closely by SFxT, but him practicing 8 hours a day online isn't the same as the Japanese playing 8 hours a day at the arcade. It's unfortunate that we can't have that same opportunity, but you can see that he is trying hard to do well.

I wish him luck at EVO and hope he doesn't have to face me as I will win EVO2013 as I practice this game once or twice a week for about 2 hours. I'm GDLK!

He raged quit only in UMVC3 both times I think, and I think both times, he was going to lose regardless of what he did and if I recall correctly, he also didn't have X-factor. And if you know anything about him, he doesn't take UMVC3 that seriously, at least not as much as AE and SFxT.

It's hard to say whether he's ready for Infiltration or not but since he spends so much time playing online and there are a lack of good Akuma (at least compared to Infiltration or Tokido's level), I doubt he's as ready as he think he is. Besides, playing against Akuma's vortex is similar to playing against Ibuki's vortex; get knocked down once and the round can end, I can't imagine ever being able to be prepared for that.

@43 You obviously dont even know what the word "Rage" means. A RQ is when someone gets angry and quits because of the what? RAGE! He knew he was gonna lose and all he did was speed up the process. Nothing wrong with that and those that say he didint shake his hand, he did so stop your blind hate on Rog. It was understandable to hate on his RQ 1 to 2 years ago but he cleaned his act up.

Hey, guys don't count Pr Rog out just yet. While his Fei may not be on par with Mago's and Fuudo's, dont forget, those two Japanese players have a real "calm" more relaxed style. PrRog style is waay more aggro (you guys saw Dieminion vs PrRog at Winter Brawl?). He just might catch Infiltration off guard, especially since he's not used to that style of Fei's.

Don't forget, Infiltration has struggled against players he has no info on. And at this moment, he doesn't have a lot of info on PrRog's Fei.

@47 He rage quitted... end of story. Sponsored players should represent themselves better, for the sake of their sponsors at least. I'm not saying that cause I don't like him.

Speaking of which, I never liked him to begin with anyway lol. After Balrogs nerfs, we saw Eduardo's success decline as well. His Fei is solid, but I'm not sure he can win with him against international talent, given the fact that there are some pretty good international Fei Long players anyway.

He's a very talented player, but boring to watch in my opinion, especially in Marvel.

Good luck to him in his quest for the EVO championship.

To say that he raged quit is like saying that every pro player who plays Starcraft 2 is a rage quitter. They know they are going to lose, so they quit. Very rarely do you see a pro player in Starcraft 2 lose because he/she has lost all their buildings.

@18 He'll have info since I can see Eduardo winning or placing very high in a lot of American tournaments from now until EVO and his Fei will have some YT coverage, plus Infiltration already defeated his Fei at Socal regionals last month and on a stream a lil before the tournament he used Hakan vs his Fei. I think his main threats are infiltration,Tokido,Daigo and and any high level Ibuki player and Latif other than that I can see him beat anybody including Mago and Fuudoo by using his Rog vs them and I don't see him losing to any Cammy player since he has a good track record vs Cammy's.

Guys like Fuudo and Mago have so much more experience with him. He may well make top 8, but I certainly don't think he will win it...unless he tags in Balrog to save the day!

@50

You are trying to compare apples and oranges.

SC/SC2 is a different type of game/beast. It is based more on respect than rage quitting. Because the player who is losing knows he is going to lose and there is no point to "waste time" for the other player to destroy every single building you have. In fact the opposite is true in SC/SC2 (instead of rage quitting people will troll and annoy you when they know they have lost the game and will attempt to build one-off buildings in remote areas of the map - to drag the game on for no reason because they are salty they lost).

Also, an average SC/SC2 game is about 15-30 minutes vs. an average Marvel match which is like 1 minute. Obviously in a SC/SC2 game you don't want to drag it on any further once you know you have lost (an entire army inside your base, you have 0 units, and no money...sorry no X factor here..game is over).

AND they message "GG" before leaving as another sign of respect and acknowledgement of their defeat.

Are we really having a stupid argument about quitting a game because it's obvious to you and everyone else that you're gonna lose no matter what you do? You guys are boiling this down to a player's sportsmanship? Representing their sponsors? It's really not that serious at all. You people take this stuff way too seriously and none of you are anywhere Rog's or any other top player's level, and most likely never will be, myself included. At the end of the day regardless of how much you wanna swarm the net with your trolly little Rog hate, he quit because there was no way he was gonna win, he got up, AND he shook Chris G's hand, so please, troll harder.

I bet about half you on here have ragequit yourselves, either offline or online, or both, so stop the hypocrisy you silly children.

At least he will still have Balrog to fall back on if he needs to. He announced he was just using Fei from now on, but surely he must still be keeping his Balrog practiced and fresh if he needs to break him out. It's always good to have options. Like Infiltration using Hakan to break the spirit of Hugo101. If everyone is expecting you to pick a certain character and you make a last second unexpected switch, it can really break the mindset of the opponent. I hope he's not afraid to use Balrog as backup at EVO if he needs to. I just can't see his Fei being strong enough to go all the way.

Because I don't know you guys, though I remember when he air-humped Mihe in FRXV, as well as when he flipped the bird (to Infiltration, no less) after he bodied him with Gouken in CEO last year (I think that was the tournament, I'm not sure). The thing is, people wouldn't be calling him on it as much if he showed to be a person that knows how to take a loss (or hell, knows how to behave after a win). That's no different and all these trolling I see it as something he brought on himself.

But hey, that doesn't seem to bother him the least because he keeps placing high in tourneys and making a big name of himself. So why would you brain dead white knights feel so infuriated whenever they read those shoutouts to everyone's favorite rage quitter is beyond me.

In order for him to have a more realistic chance at winning evo this year, I think he needs to go to Japan and play at the arcades with the top players there and gain some invaluable knowledge match up against the top characters in the game (especially for the Akuma match up if he's that worried against Infiltration's Akuma).

Playing online and practicing 8 hours a day can only take you so far. But without real, face to face interaction and competition that only the arcade scene can bring, Eduardo will not gain the much needed experience playing "top" competition day in and day out in his daily practice regiment.

on the rage quit thing (which by the way my favorite rage quitter is sanford), it is annoying as a spectator. if it's some pools match thats off stream who gives two sh1ts, but if its on stream there should be a little consideration for the peeps (like myself) that can only see whats being streamed. the only thing online viewers get are matches, commentary booth and view of the players, so when someone rage quits all we get is a pause menu and audio of the pop-off. its just consideration for the fans at home or around the globe. i would have hated to live in europe and wait all night for grand finals just to see a rage quit. shame.

just thoughts. do what you will with them.
