BrokenTier's team tutorial featuring Viscant - Zero, Dr. Doom, Vergil The guys over at BrokenTier have launched their new feature for their blog. This is a team tutorial which will have a breakdown of the pros and cons of a team, some match analysis and more.

Up first is Viscant, going over his team of Zero, Dr. Doom and Vergil where he gives a ton of great information on how the team works. Here is an excerpt from the matchup section.

Matchups:

This team is generally solid against other top tier with a couple of exceptions. Teleporters plus Strider really bother Zero at the start of a match. Vergil/Strider especially. Zero likes to be the bully and completely control the air and vajra makes Zero consider blocking in the air, blunting his momentum. Zero can cleanly punish a naked Vajra with crouch C or a jumping pizza cutter, but the threat of the point character attacking from behind is usually enough to stop Zero from trying. And once Zero has committed to blocking, teleporting to coax him into missing a block is smart strategy. Add all that up and a Vergil willing to liberally helm breaker + Strider is dangerous. It’s not a complete counter match because this kind of strategy will generally force the other side to burn x-factor, giving you an advantage in the endgame. With x-factor out of the way, Doom/Vergil can adopt a zoning gameplan and play slowly with the knowledge that Strider without x-factor left is not a threat to a loaded Vergil.

Another problematic matchup is against Morridoom. Zero has to land something in the opening salvo otherwise this match is simply not going to go well for him. Morrigan can overpower Zero in a projectile war and calling out assists during astral vision is not a good idea. You can give yourself a second chance by tagging Vergil into a fireball outside of astral vision but the problem is that your team order becomes Vergil/Doom/Zero and that’s risky. If Vergil doesn’t get the job done and dies to Morrigan, you’re basically finished. Zero can use Sougenmu and a double level 3 buster to harass Morrigan during astral vision but this is not really going to work. You can use the double busters to make her block or to hit her Doom but eventually she’s going to take control back. It’s less of a strategy and more of a last gasp.

Head over to BrokenTier's blog to get the full team tutorial part 1 goes over the pros, cons and matchups. While part 2 is match analysis from tournaments in the past.

Note that this do have a quite a bit of text but they are extremely informational.

Why ask viscant on how to do it? this guy is like the biggest fraud in marvel.
not even trolling here that is what i seriously think, his execution and overall game is pretty average.

@He admits he's not an exxcution heavy player. But his fundamentals are good and that what makes you a better player.

He's still a good player, just because you don't see much of him doesn't mean anything.

When I can't take it anymore I play Doom/Vergil/Strider team is cheap as all hell. I only pick it if I'm tired of losing or I just wanna annoy my friends. How does nobody play that team?

@2 Viscant has a load of game knowledge. It may not have translated to tournament wins, but he does know this game in and out.

I'm not saying he isn't a cool dude (i haven't met him), nor am i claiming that since we don't see him much, he isn't good. But having good fundamentals (much like valle) doesn't make you a great marvel player sorry. it makes you good, but to make these sort of these walkthroughs and how to's when you yourself can't deal with it, is a little hypocritical i think.

Viscant is one of the most knowledgeable players in the FGC and it's always informative to hear what he has to say. But seriously to anyone criticizing him: He won EVO. What have you done?

Viscant is one of the smartest players out there. I always enjoy reading/listening to what he has to say in terms of strategies and metagame. Yes, he doesn't have the best execution but fighting games are much more than just landing the flashiest combo. Strategy, match up knowledge, anticipation and outsmarting your opponent are all as important or more than raw execution skills.

Not taking advice from someone who knows the game is just dumb sorry mate. Whether they can play the game well or not.

Knowledge is knowledge at the end of the day.

@2

It's a bit much to call an EVO winner "the biggest fraud." Sure, he used Phoenix, but every other competitor had access to the same character, and he did it best. I thought it rather laughable that some of his doubters in the pro circuit were using wolvie/akuma at the time, which was just as potent and easy mode mixup.

In most activities, the best players are often not the best teachers or coaches, and vice versa. Viscant knows the game like a science, and more importantly, he can communicate his thoughts and ideas with a clarity that very few in the FGC can even begin to emulate. I guarantee you that many of the top players could not put pen to paper and give as clear a picture of their strategy as Viscant. Also, Viscant is one of the few that actually takes the time to give back and try to teach and/or explain. Very few of the pros do that.

Viscant is the classic "old player".
Using knowledge to overcome defficiencies in his execution. And he certainly has the result (Evo champ, anyone?) to show for it.

I like how people like to act as if the only player in Marvel 3 with access to phoenix was Viscant, Kinda like how people act like the only person with access to Morrigon in Ultimate is Chris G.

Or that Wolvie/Akuma was SUCH an honorable and commendable strategy.
