Just passed 130k. Not even 24 hours passed.
I highly doubt that we'll make the 600k goal but I think that depending on how much stuff slows down tomorrow it wouldn't be unreasonable to think Big Band might be made.
In other news: top players are just as ignorant about how much stuff costs and anyone who thinks that this cost is a scam/bloated is an idiot speaking without being at all informed.
The ONE time that a fighting game company isn't actively trying to squeeze you for extra cash and are actually working with the game / customer in mind and people think they are getting ripped off.
Transparency here: I bought Skullgirls week one, but have only played it MAYBE ten minutes, total (that first week.) I didn't really like how it played: It felt floaty and offputting. Is it worth coming back to this game and giving it another shot?
I'm impressed by the number that the start-up has gotten to in such a short time, and the game, in general, seems to have a large following. Am I missing something that makes it popular? I'm certainly not against trying it again, as I love fighting games in general.
Summary, anyone?
I would love to have Brain Drain to be the second Male.
And is that the shark scientist?
wow, where is all this money coming from, didn't know skullgirls had that much support
This is awesome news!!! I can't wait to see the rest of the mystery characters. Right now I'm liking Dr. Violet, Annie, and Black Dhalia.
@EyePawd
The patch may have something to do with it. They sped up the game a bit and it actually made things tons more fun. And of course they fixed some issues with the mechanics and re balanced the characters. It's pretty awesome from what my brother tells me. I haven't been able to play it yet since I own a 360. I plan on getting it for PC and PS3 though.
Also...is that a boxing character I see in the pic with all of the mystery characters? If so I'm super interested to see that character.
I want that "gang" kinda dudes wit the big 90s anime flop hairdoo and the white jackets with the black stars implemented somehow. They are off to the right in the one stage. Think they'd be sick to see in game and their story might come out pretty cool.
@Zentsurugi
Thanks for an answer without the typical internet spazzyness. I had forgotten about the patch, frankly. I certainly wasn't again the game. I even got a chance to interview the development team for a games site I wrote for back when testing builds were floating around some of the fighting game tourneys.
My biggest complaint was the speed of the non-patched version. Same reason I could never get into BlazBlue: Felt too slow.
Anyone know if anyone plays this online anymore?
Well, then...
Are people from Japan and Europe donating, too? Did they put this up in other places? If they have worldwide support, that might explain how it's happening so quickly.
Also Seth Killian, Haunts, and Andrew Alfonso (People actually involved in the industry) telling it how it is on how much individual characters cost. You all take things too much for granted.

#11 I can't say because I have it on Xbox but from what I understand GGPO allows you to play against japanese players pretty comfortably.
#16
Yes on the PS3 version (The one with the patch) allows quality online experience. Even the higher pings feel playable.
The problem though, at least initially is that Japan sees a red ping and would not accept a match despite red ping being playable in the 200 range
I can recognize only about half those character's silhouettes. :s Hope that if they manage to get the $600k that they can give us a mini paragraph summary of the characters planned play style. Just off design though I'm going for Black Dahlia or Panzerfaust. I'm also curious about Mrs.Victoria only because I can't picture her as a character...it could be interesting. Anyways, all of my money! :3

"Also Seth Killian, Haunts, and Andrew Alfonso (People actually involved in the industry) telling it how it is on how much individual characters cost. You all take things too much for granted."
- Exactly. People think this s*** is free to make, thn bitch an moan all the one. Hey have no idea how mic money and hours of no sleep it actually takes.
Thing is, like two seconds of thinking, a few minutes of research and common sense would have given them the same info.
Also in contrast to my other post, what Chris G been tweeting was incredibly ignorant and only suited on making an ass out of himself. https://twitter.com/NYChrisG/status/3...
Lol saying $150k would fund FIVE full characters and himself would be enough for TESTING.
Ignorance being spread like this is one of the main reasons why alot of people don't know what the industry is actually like
I can vouch for Lab Zero here. I've done some sprite animating here and there over the years and it's a tedious task compared to making one 3D model and being done for the day. Sprites go through a much longer process and requires a lot of work and for Lab Zero to promise Squigly in two months time is great. If it was Alex alone doing the pencil art, line art, coloring, shading, and animation, we probably wouldn't see Squigly for over a year. Especially with the amount of fluid frame animation with Skullgirls.
@Hooligan - man that is sad to see. I hope RabidDuckie enlightens him on that. Saying "I could test it"... Silly.
People really don't understand how this works and it just saddens me. Even as someone who barely had a foot in the door, I can safely say even just the testing is not that effing easy, and rarely dies the pay compensate.
@EyePawd
i haven't jumped online recently, but salty cupcakes will accept online entries for their tournament if not enough people sign up at the place. They are that confident in Skull Girls online. There's also a topic on SRK where someone hosts weekly online tournaments for the game. So while the community isn't as big as marvel/ae, they try to making it so there's a constructed way to grow in the game without attending majors that won't host the game to begin with.
They also recently made a forum for the community at skullheart.com for events and info. There are also weekly online tournaments that average about 40-ish people.
#26
Yeah Salty Cupcakes stream tourneys are a mix of Offline and Online peeps. The online is that good.
Your also thinking about Skullbats as the weekly online tourney (I believe they do it Swiss style) where they get pretty good turnouts. They are slowly moving to SH though instead of staying at SRK
Wow , I love the support that's been shown .... I hope the cast of characters continue to grow , although I have doubts if the popularity of the game could grow enough ( Although I hope Evo presence could help with that )
I also hope to see a disc based release one day with more characters too.( hopefully one day we will have all 6 of those charactere, along with Squiggly and the big male character ..... and maybe one day everyone behind those black silhouttes too in a few years ...)
I thought this game had a terrible number of attendants at events? By the looks of it, if only a small percentage of all these backers showed up, the game wouldn't even be close to being "dead".
@EndlessWitch the thing is that not every person is interested in growing the scene or giving their money to a top player. A lot of people support the game and only play it casually, or support it because they love the art/story, or they want the game itself to succeed more than just the community surrounding the tournament scene for the game.
I think a lot of the FGC (especially some top players whom I wont name directly but live in NY and have an incredibly good morrigan.) have a myopic view of a game's community as being SOLELY based on tournaments and weeklies.
Dont worry skullgirls, my whole first paycheck from my new job will be donated to you. FENG I'm coming for JOO!!!

"I think a lot of the FGC have a myopic view of a game's community as being SOLELY based on tournaments and weeklies."
Bingo. Valiant but narrow sighted.
woo! 142,500 in 21hours. If it raises $7500 in the next 3 hours it will have hit it's goal within the first 24hours. I'd say that is a success. At this point it is pretty much guaranteed that Squiggly at least will be made even if that is all that happens there is very little chance that in the next 30days the funding wont raise the last $7500. Especially given that the final day of these things generally raises as much as the middle 28days put together in my experience. (This is the 6th project I've backed. Banner Saga, Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, Can's Without Labels, Double Fine Adventure Game and now Squiggly.)
I was really hoping for Venus and Aeon to make it to the poll, I'm not sure if I see either one of them in the silhouettes :(
@ RealPrismsword
They're towards the bottom :3 Sooo want Venus X3
TBH would want to know the character's potential playstyle to make a choice as I wouldn't want a character to be chosen only for it to play fairly similar to existing one.
And Stanley got revealed:

All the attention this game is getting bugs me, because even though, at the end of the day, I DO like the game (and honestly, I forget that a lot. Doesn't help that I bought it on Xbox), it will always be overshadowed by MvC (which I don't like), which makes me feel like all this attention is energy that could be better spent on a game I care more about. That was a run-on, bleh. Umbrella is cute though. BB and VF for life. :(
May as well congratulate them now, only about 800 away from their first goal. I have to say I'm impressed with the support of the fans. When Mike Z first talked about this and threw out that 150k number I thought to myself, is this guy serious? I didn't think it had a chance, thankfully I was proven wrong. Congrats everyone at reverge labs!
@2 Who's giving them money? MANLY PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN THE FIGHTING SPIRIT! I liked everything about the game except for the cast size, and the pre-patch training menu. Now that i can directly effect the cast size, i donated (and got some cool stuff with it that i'll give to my friends).
Also, yeah i'm going to be that guy: The goal is is "sight".
Congrats Lab Zero guys :D and lol #62, calling them Reverge, kick em while they are down, oh no wait, they got up with a wakeup SRK already :3
@59 If you can't see the difference between people trying to milk their customers and team that earned everyones respect that they are willing to support them through the hardest times... I feel soryy for you.
That there was a beautiful thing rarely seen in this industry nowadays.
The initial goal of 150k met under 24 hours! Can't say anyone saw this coming...
Stretch Goals Ahoy~
Holy Moly. People really love Skullgirls. I think everyone hear about their recent troubles and wanna help out.
Black Dahlia looks so awesome! If she gets voted in, ill buy the game and her.
Good for them, I wanted them to reach their Squiggly goal but i never imagined they'd do it this fast.
I'm not sure that they'll make the 600k, but I also wasn't sure they'd make the 150, so I'll wait and see. I'd love to get Big Band and Black Dhalia. Been wanting Dhalia since I did Cerebella's story mode. That bitch looks bad :)
Congrats to the LZ crew for hitting their first target so quickly, I'll be sure to drop a donation to them soon.
I'm gonna be really torn, if they get to 600k, on what character to vote for... I hope they'll allow more than one vote, I can't decide between Umbrella, Black Dhalia and Minette...
I also lol'd at the Heart reference, on the 3rd row, middle silhouette.
Yo, wait a minute, middle guy in the third row. Is that some manly Aino Heart?!
@84 - YAAAAESSSS!!!!
A combination of Yay and Yes!
Er, anyway, awesomesauce. Really looking forward to Squigly and how she works out. ^_^
Once the voting comes up... I really want to see Black Dahlia make it. Although Umbrella would be awesome too for the cute factor.
Big Band, can't wait to see him in action if that comes to fruition. The games has a lot of awesome concepts down the pipeline if they can get the funding.
Now, just guessing:
Let's suppose the team doesn't reach the 600k line. My best scenario for them is to reach 200k, considering what #82 said (there's less money when the deadline draws nearer) and also the fact I'm pretty doubtful that the most attractive, yet affordable rewards will be sufficient to keep donators coming when the campaign is coming to an end. Bottom line: let's just give 'em a number, bigger than 150k but less than 600k.
Is it possible for Lab Zero to keep making funding campaigns on IndieGoGo after this one ends? Because that would be one way to raise the bar when it comes to people's expectations. I wouldn't want the possibility of having more characters to be dead and buried as soon as this campaign ends.
I may talk out of my ass and sound like an idiot, but it crowdfunding is the way to keep getting the needed resources and deliver more content into it, I'd say go for it. You've seen the fans response, LZ, you know we'd support you as long as you're still able to back yourselves up
I don't really get why there's people hating on Skullgirls. Well ok, maybe not "hate" but a lack of support. I'm not big into fighting games (Don't get me wrong, I like to play them, I'm just terrible at them and don't really focus on getting better) but the asthetics and mechanics in this game are exciting and fresh.
Anyway, enough of that min-rant. I'm hyped that the funding is already done and I'm hoping we can actually hit 675,000+ I want to see Black Dahlia paired up with Squiggly. I'm not too excited about Big Band, but more characters (As long as they are well balanced) are never a bad thing.
I'd donate but I'm saving up my money for the new Tomb Raider, MGR, a 3DS, and Pokemon X & Y. Plus there's school to take in account too. I wanna know what kinda jobs these people donating big bucks have lol
@95 Will you stfu about the Capcom DLC stuff? Idk how many times it's been explained to the uneducated like yourself, but SEVERAL videogame developers utilize that practice and will CONTINUE to utilize that practice. AND IT BENEFITS US AND THE CONSUMERS BECAUSE IT SAVES US HARDDRIVE SPACE AND ALLOWS TO PLAY AGAINST PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE DLC EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T. THIS WAS TO PREVENT A SUPER SFxT SINCE EVERYONE WAS SO BUTTHURT ABOUT SSF4, BUT WHINERS LIKE YOU STILL B*TCH ABOUT IT. STFU ALREADY DAMMIT. /rant
No Idea where all the money is coming from. Could be a drug money all I care but it doesn't matter because it seems like the game is getting support. Mrs Victoria looks like my old high school English teacher.
