Sony PlayStation special event stream, PlayStation 4 announced

Updated: Sony has confirmed the release of the PlayStation 4, and there are some details which may catch the eye of the fighting game community, including the ability to record live gameplay, and broadcasting live to your friends as you game.

Here's a quick rundown of a few features which may interest fighting game fans.

• Players can record live gameplay to share and discuss with friends online.

• With the share button on the new PlayStation 4 controller, you can broadcast your game to any and all of your friends. With your permission, friends can watch your stream, comment, and even take over your game and assist you.

Is there a need for a PS4 when the capabilities of the PS3 have yet to reach their very formidable limit? I can understand the WiiU or even a new Xbox, but the PS3 is still relatively capable of feats that have not been pushed upon it yet.

I'm pretty sure thats psp-Vita. I don't know what they are thinking but if there is seriously not back-wards compatibility between ps3-ps4 then i might just jump out of video games in general.... I don't think this gen of consoles will work if they think people will be okay with. out being able to play their 360/ps3 games...

Man, I barely was able to afford a new PS3 (after our old died), and had to save up quite a bit for an arcade stick. Being a student and having a student's budget is making me a little salty about the transition to the new system.

Still, I'm going to make efforts to prepare for this transition. All in the name of SF 5 and SF Alpha 4 (and possibly CvS 3).

It was a pretty good presentation, all things considered, not like they're going to show everything just yet. Probably going to buy it, but it'll be a while after launch and it really depends on what else it'll do (and not do), the price, and what games it'll have, etc. Loved Ono's little intro and the end of the trailer with the patented Blanka toy.

If you want to play PS3 games, then use a PS3. I'll be buying PS4 to play PS4 games. I have two PS2s for PS2 games (1 being used and 1 brand new in the box).

You want backward compatibility? Play PC games, the most backward compatible platform ever made.

I used to worry about how to afford my expensive hobbies, then I realized I can make money by working at a job.

As much as there are good stuff for the PS4, but I have a trouble feeling when it comes to the console marketing & fighting games.

Because fighting games in general are not getting a proper treatment from the console marketing, arcades always make fighting games alot better. Playstation (no hate intend) is another symbol of the unbalancement to the console marketing along with others, part of the console marketing is the reason that fighter games don't do too well and plus most games have to be release at this deadline even not getting enough time to test them proper.

Unless if Fighting games get a new treatment when comes to testing, even revive the Arcade even make alot of fighting game betas. Playstation will never improve fighter games nor other system companies.

#64, in some cases, it's just not that simple. PS2's are nowhere to be found here anymore. I mean, I've spent money buying fighting games that I had already bought on PS2 simply because for a person like me, in a marginalized country, it's practically impossible to get a WORKING ps2.

Cloud gaming could be interesting for fighting games.
If the server side does all the computing while the player side just sends input data and receive video, then only the laggy player will get penalized for being laggy.

Maybe i'm just being lazy but I find it a hassle to have to go back and hook up a previous console to play the games where you could put it in a current gen console and play from there. Not to mention that they are talking about being able to stream ps3,2, and 1 games to the ps4, which is good and all but the question is will we have to pay for it again to play them on the current gen console? i dunno, maybe i'm just over thinking things...

surprised no one said anything about how the built-in "Twitch.tv like" Ustream could effect the streaming community in the FGC...its basically your own Twitch.tv channel built in to the PS4 to stream whatever your playing...no more ad revenue for the streamers and it can be viewed on any smartphone or tablet...any thoughts on that?

Another 5 years at the minimum, if PS2's life cycle of of any indication. I am not certain of Xbox 360's support since there's only Xbox 1's to draw upon and I remember that its death was almost overnight once MS unveiled 360.

@78 ustream is a partner and a competitor with twitch.tv and justin.tv (same founders) with the financial backing of sony it could change streaming but i still believe ad revenue will be collected just like ustream does.

It comes down to the games. Yes the stuff on screen was pretty but the games is what makes it. The social aspect is cool and its nice that ads (if they must) when they pop up are based on my interest not just some random game I could care less about.

But like the Wii U I felt the same, where are the games, Watchdogs is nice, Destiny...meh I don't care who Bungie is, they haven't sold me yet. And im worried about this cloud gaming for old titles.

I know, I did some research on the hardware, but I seriously don't thin that they would try to do something like that again. The main reason the ps3 didn't sell well to begin with was it's steep price range when compared to the 360. Unless Sony has some secret tactic to give costumers a reason to buy a 600+ system or if the xbox 720 completely sucks, I doubt they do will this gen with that sort of price.

All consoles are sold at a loss when they are released (except the Wii, but who gives a f*ck about that), even the PS3 with their $600 price tag they were selling at a loss. The money is in the software and it looks like PS4 will come out will a very interesting selection of launch titles already. They 're probably planning in selling a $700 machine at $400 but lure you into getting your PS+ subscription and buying 2-3 console exclusives.
