Injustice: Gods Among Us - Turn off environment damage, pushblocking, Street Fighter-esque inputs and more

Injustice: Gods Among Us - Turn off environment damage, pushblocking, Street Fighter-esque inputs and more The guys over at Game Revolution were able to get a sneak peek of the game, Injustice: Gods Among Us. They were first shown some of the game's story mode prologue which goes into details on what has happened to Metropolis City.

Importantly enough, the game developers discussed some of the notables changes to the game for the hardcore fighting game players including the ability to turn off enviromental damage, pushblock, Street Fighter-esque inputs and more.

The developers took note of several notable changes, though. Hardcore fighting players can turn off environmental damage if they prefer and can now use a part of their meter to push back any opponents who might be guard crushing them in a corner. Players can also opt to change all of the traditional four-direction moves into quarter-circle and half-circle inputs that are better suited on the arcade stick.

Additionally, players can tag various techniques in the movelist so that their inputs appear on the screen, allowing for easier learning and less menu diving. Playing through any of the game's modes, including online matches with can have optional goal objectives, will earn experience points that will unlock avatars and other perks. The only slight disappointment was that tag team matches have been dropped, but that's a small price to pay for what should be an all-around heroic effort.

Sounds like a solid effort by NRS. Hopefully the online will be worth a damn. I've heard stories about MK.

Not sure about the meter for push blocking, lets just hope they don't have Flash dash-cancel block strings like Kabal had.

I think its awesome but would'nt that kind of kill the point of the game if we start turning off enviorments? Its not like they automatically hurt you like in brawl, these actually have to be interacted with.

Also what do they mean turn off enviormental damage? If they mean the objects that hurt the player then ok, but perhaps it goes againts my first assumption and there IS things in the background that will hurt players automatically.

Ok this needs to be cleared up.

Love the fact that you can turn off the random feature in order to make it more competitive. Just hope you can skip the 30 sec cutscenes when a character is send flying. And I didn't care much about the tag team feature in MK. They should focus on polishing the key features.

I seriously hope stage variables aren't canned for tournaments. They've been the single most innovative idea in fighting games for a long time. No game has fleshed them out like Injustice has.

Why are people against having the OPTION to turn it off... If you want to use them and have fun time with the bros then just don't turn it off... Whether the game was meant to be played like that or not people should have the option to play it as they prefer, and some people won't feel it's competitive enough with environments on. Think of gems in sfxtk, dumb mechanic but it was meant to be a part of the game, still... You have the option to set no gems if you'd like to. Force it and that just makes things worse.

Absolutely a fan of options. Tournaments can use whatever options they want, but I personally want to play without things I don't like.

Even if I end up liking the game out of the box, the options would be there for me to create a game I would enjoy in the event that I didn't.

Options = 100% upside, 0% negatives.

yes D, F + Attack is the same as you stated but what if they have charge characters? When D +F is the attack I still use it like Sf any time I play MK games. But what if the back + foward + attack turns to charge back + forwar + attack??? I wonder if I can switch this on and off by character!?!?!?!?!

@24 I didn't know they announced the complete roster? THey said the 24 slots were just a set-up and was not final.

I played Tag in MK online for 2 reasons: 1. I could practice 2 characters at once + more matchup experience.
2. People playing tag mode actually used a variety of character. Single mode on ranked would have you fighting 16 scorpions in 20 matches.

@27 It is the same for a pad, but I had some trouble at first doing d,f attacks on an arcade stick. THeres was just something funky about doing the motion consistently in a Sektor juggle.

The non-SF inputs used in MK9 (Down & Forward only) created unwanted input leniency. You could get accidental incredibly punishable specials just by doing a dash-in D+4.

Tag was a gimmick in MK9 (let alone recent fighters having tag like TTT2,SfxT,DoA 5, Mvc3, Skullgirls, etc making Tag feel feel stale)

Glad they are focusing on a solid 1 vs 1 fighter

Under this setting, back-forward becomes half-circle forward. They won't be doing any charges. That's not what they mean by SF inputs. This is strictly for ease of use for arcades sticks and like #31 stated, will also be useful for preventing accidental inputs.

@17

The stage damage isn't a randomized mechanic like the stuff in Smash.

People don't understand the concept of random anymore....

there is no chance nor luck involved in stage interactions, (as far as we know) they stay where they are and don't do anything till activated. ie. things won't automatically fly out that hit you.

@6 well dude it's just an option, if you don't like it don't use it yourself, simple as that, it's like saying "Oh damn I don't like that this game gave me multiple difficulty options, I want to play it where it's hard, what's that? The option for hard is already there? I don't care anymore this game sucks because of more options."

Don't care about tag and don't see why it's being shoved into all these games like DoA, MK9, SFxT. Don't need, it and don't care. Leave it for Tag 2 where the system is refined. As for push blocking with, meter, sounds good. Plus the fact you can change QCFs is very much welcome. I loved this addition in Skullgirls but giving us the option to change more moves to SF/KoF style is a bonus.
Injustice is looking great.

At least it's optional, but I see the fun with environments. But stuff like gems were really unnecessary. At least NR cares about certain aspects of fighters to bring everyone on board.
Yet games like SFxT add a bunch of stupid gimmicks, then again the Capcom fanboys will eat any S*** thrown at them.

I didn't know there was guard crushing in this game. Does that mean that if you have something akin to a guard bar that will eventually deplete and leave you vulnerable if you block too much? Or am I just misinterpreting the article?

I still support NR's decision, but I hope they aren't trying to make it too much like Capcom fighters. All the little scenes during battle like punching them through several buildings take too long and kill the momentum of the battle. Just my opinion but small things like that ruin it for me. It would be good if things like that could be turned off and keep the battle in one location.

Why are competitive players so afraid of playing anything new? -_-

The problem with multiple options is that it will take a while for everyone to decide on what is the best option if it's not clear. Granted most people just do what Evo does but what if a large enough group of people wanted to do something else? It would really hurt the initial competitive momentum of any game's scene if there is no unity.

More options only really cater to casual players and not competitive players.

So now it's just like any other fighting game? It's No Items, Fox only, Final Destination, all over again.

Though to be fair, the only news I'm disappointed about is that giving the option to turn environmental damage off, will make it the tournament/stream standard. That's practically admitting it's just a dumb gimmick. I thought they could do better than that with that novel idea, and I was looking forward to taking it seriously. Guess not though. It's a gimmick.

Unless they go ahead and force tournaments hosting them to keep it on. But, yeah, if that ever happens, I'll eat my hat.

IDK why people are complaining about new options.... lets be honest after you see the animation of you getting your a$$ kicked thru wall and stuff over and over your going to get tired of seeing it... not to mention some animations are just take too much time when your ready to play again and again..

as for the tag feature being kicked to the crib, I dont think thats a good deal at all... especially seeing that the popularity of tag fighting has surpassed 1 vs 1.. however NRS 1v1 style is so quick paced and so satisfying it kind makes up for it...
