Ono hints possible reveal at PAX 2013, lots of requests for PC ports of previous Street Fighter titles and more on possibility of SSF4 AE v2012 update Yoshinori Ono continues to address users' comments and questions sent to him over on Twitter.

This time around, Ono hints at a possible reveal during PAX this year, mentions that there are a lot of requests for PC ports of older Street Fighter titles such as Street Fighter 3 and provides more cryptic responses on an update for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 and the chances of us seeing a Street Fighter Alpha 4.

Vzis: Can we expect something for PAX (end of march)?

Ono: We'll be... maybe. ;P

UgdinTBD: You should try to push for more Street fighter remakes on the PC. I'd buy Street Fighter 3.

Ono: We had a lot of request about it.

DaRealChocolove: Fans will just get bored of a Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 update. Push for Alpha 4!

Ono: Thanks, I understood your opinion. ;D

ShinKurow: Any new projects for 2013?

Ono: Its too early to tell... ;P

Skitzo: :( so none one working on a Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 update?

Ono: I have no certainty at all about it yet... ;D

As much as i like AE, i honestly think they should leave AE alone already at this point. The game is fine as it is, another update would be pointless. They should focus their resources on a brand new game like a new SF, Darkstalkers, or even the revival of some of their older series like Rival Schools or CVS3(Though RS and CVS3 are pretty unlikely it would be awesome nonetheless.) I guess the only thing we can do for now is to play the waiting game, let the speculation begin:

If you say, "no SFIV update" and instead say, "Alpha 4 please"(+) - You're doing it all wrong.

+SFIV is LITERALLY 18 characters away from having every SF character EVER in the same game. That's counting Gill and Urien / Juni and Juri as completely different characters. This could be the pinnacle of the series and, if not on this console I hope on the next, don't redo all this work for V, just build this game to the definitive edition of the series, hell it already is. What's the incentive to start over? Pull a Madden here, add a online training, new modes like "ALPHA" (++) and other weird specific play modes (III with Parry anybody?) and a couple new levels and characters?! Anybody who says that wouldn't reinvigorate the FGC and wants Alpha IV (stupid) and V (unnecessary) is a liar, liar, liar.

+ And Alpha 4? Guys ... there is literally SEVEN characters from that series not in SFIV yet and that's generously counting the twins as separate different characters.

++ Add an "Alpha" mode to SFIV - Guard break, counters and air blocking // no FA or Ultra. - Boom. Alpha iV. 1/100 the cost. You're welcome.

#40
Aluppoj's avatar
Aluppoj said on February 17, 2013 at 10:31 p.m.

@40

Dude, if you're struggling with shortcuts, or people using shortcuts against you, you must be bad. No joke.

Five years in, anyone who plays this game knows that shortcuts, input leniency, and input leniency on charge buffering have all become Sub mechanics to be utilized by good players and pros alike.

They create combo opportunities (especially for charge characters) that wouldn't otherwise exist. (Guile FADC Ultra2 for example)

In reality shortcuts just made the game moderately more accessible to new players. And struck a much better balance than SFxT's gems.

So a kid can now perform an SRK. Big deal.

Controls are supposed to be intuitive. People shouldn't struggle to perform moves. Aside from that, I've played for 25 years, I input the same as I always had in past SF games and I get the moves I want. I don't see shortcuts bothering tournament players.

And I'm not sure how much more "back to roots" you want SF to go. SF4 is closer to SF2 than any other SF in the series. The focus gives it a parry element (thank god). But beyond that it mimics SF2's ground game with plenty of footsies and projectile space control.

@33

I agree completely, (except about alpha mode)

SF4 has a great roster. Add to it. Otherwise we're getting 8-12 character restart on the next SF! Zzzzzzz, enough moving backwards.

SonicfanQ said on February 17, 2013 at 10:36 p.m.

@40 Capcom DID go back to their roots by bringing back most of the original cast unlike SF3. I agree the reversal window and shortcuts should go. Even still scrub friendly or not playing at highlevels will weed the scrubs out unless your playing online lol. SF4 is a good fighting game that needs at least 1 more update and ill be satisfied.

Caliban's avatar
Caliban said on February 17, 2013 at 10:44 p.m.

who said shortcuts were a problem for me. i guess you like to read between the lines that aren't even there. and 42 i 100% agree. the game is 6 years old. i mean really how much can it really change.. an update would be a waste imo. "add 15 more characters, so we dont play them."don't get me wrong i love playing sf4 but the updates are getting old. we need a fresh game.

#44
Aluppoj's avatar
Aluppoj said on February 17, 2013 at 10:51 p.m.

@43

I respect your comments, but I think you're off-base on shortcuts.

Do you enjoy power-steering in your car? Why would you purposely remove it making your car Needlessly difficult to drive?

Would this make you a better driver? Probably not. Especially if that power-steering enables you to perform cool tricks/mechanics that wouldn't work otherwise.

Making the game playable is an evolution. Just as much as graphics or music.

It's also a much less invasive process than adding auto block, auto tech mechanics. That's crossing the line of helpful and becomes hurtful IMO.

(Again, I am not reliant on shortcuts. But I see a bigger picture as far as they are concerned.)

I agree. Please update that bad boy.

@50

I hear ya, but that's a very 2009 attitude. And if that's your opinion, then I guess I can't change it. But.....

1) Consider the cool crap that can be done with combos because of SF4's lenient controls. I'm not talking about scrub play. Those guys suck, and are no threat with their mashed reversals.

I'm talking about DESK style combos. I'm talking about Balrog focus absorbing a projectile, dashing forward, ultra 1! That's the cool stuff SF4 does with stuff like SC and input leniency.

2) They open the game to more players. More players = more revenue. That = more Street Fighter games for us!

So let them have an SRK! Let a kid throw a Hadoken! Are they really a threat to us? No.

Remember, power-steering doesn't make a bad driver good. But it can sure make a good driver better if he uses it properly:)

Peace.

@33 SF4 will never be the pinnacle of the series for the simple reason that people are freaking sick and tired of the game already. The chimpanzee art, lackluster animation and the crude gameplay elements (damage scaling, ultras, super long reversal window, focus attack guessing game etc) are not going to be remembered as classic elements. Basically people tolerated SF4 because it's the first SF game in donkey years, but their tolerance has ran out and they are ready for a SF game that doesn't look ass and doesn't leave people feeling that their opponent can body them even without knowing the fundamentals of a fighting game. A balance patch is going to do nothing to change that.

Yeah...I am on-board with #33's logic, but...I'd love to see a cooler art style, more in the vein of MvsC3 or, just more epicly kewl.

Do SF5 on next gen. More mature graphic style. No more overly long Ultras. Flesh out everyone's story. Add in the last 18 characters + 10 brand new and bam! THAT's gonna be definitive.

NOOOOOOO! No more new fighters (ok, maybe ONE more). We're gonna have a fighting game implosion jut like the 90s at this rate. There's way too many fighters coming out left and right. Good games that could've had a chance won't get it if every fighting game out there is still relevant by the time they come out.

UMVC3 and SF X TKN still need to be explored and/or rebalanced more. Tekken's a solid 3D fighter title for competitive play. AE could use a patch to get the fking unblockables dealt with (as much as possible). Then we still got KOF13, Injustice coming soon (it really does look solid...no lie), and new Blazblue coming soon. We got A TON of fighters, and games like Skull Girls and MK9 have already gotten left by the way-side. We honestly...HONESTLY don't need more new fighters right now. We need time for these to resonate for a bit.

However, if they didn't update AE anymore, then it'd be acceptable to add an extra one in its place. Still, lets face it: the only thing replacing SFIV is SFV.

Psst, it doesn't work like that. You can't just magically import models and textures from one game and transplant them into another, especially when SFxT uses a modified version of the SF 4 engine and just balancing alone for these four extra characters (Protip: It would mean that the update wouldn't be free) would be a pain in the ass and not worth it.

Because so many people that totally main Evil Ryu, Oni, Yun, and Yang, right? That's about how popular they would be regardless of what characters get added in. People don't play characters that suck, that's just the fact of life. Correction--They'll play characters that suck, for about a week.

That said,If(That's a big IF)SFA4 comes to fruition,it must be 2D PLS! BibleThump.Aside from that,an update for AE2012 would be cool.It would reinvigorate the masses and provide competition against the new blood(InJustice,New Blazblue) SFXT2013 seems to be doing great,so they can forget about that for a while.

Also:People complaining about shortcuts sound so insecure about their own skills.Like Aluppoj said:Let them have their shortcuts. If know your character and strategies,no mere shortcut or wake up shoryu will take you out.Believe in yourself! >:O

I want SF5 also but don't people realize that we are not gonna see it on this generation of consoles (PS3/Xbox 360), for one it would not be a smart move for Capcom since the Next Gen consoles release later this year or some time next year and with the rumored announcement that Next Gen will NOT be backward Compatible it would be a waste to drop something as big as SF5 on dying consoles. Two Capcom would have to make the game from scratch so it would probably take 2-3 years to develop with a Japanese arcade release to drop first. Third if you think SF5 will feature the 39 characters in SSF4AE your probably wrong, SF5 will probably only have between 20-30 characters with the whole SF2 cast returning. Right now now an update to SF4 would be the smart choice since it would not take them to much time (4-6 months) to add new characters, stages, balances, modes, ect plus SF4 is still very popular and if Capcom added 6 new characters (Alex, Karin) and a couple new stages it would do alot for the game.

PS. SF4 is not 6 years old, later this week it would have been on consoles for 4 years!

@76 people that are upset about shortcuts aren't made that players have an easier time (I think it's great).
The people that are upset are the people that have accidental moves come out. The system is very lenient and sometimes it can really bite you in the ass.
Edit: one of the best suggestions is just the ability to turn it off or on in character select. Kind of like in Marvel.

@caliban why make a half statement? Could you explain why shortcuts are a problem? There's a crap ton of reasons given as to there usefulness. But you make a half statement and offer no explanation ie you are a troll. Please explain why. If you dare say that dashing into a hadoken causes you to always perform an srk than you have no idea how to execute moves in the sf games without the shortcuts.
Lemme help you out dummy. Dash return stick/pad to neutral before starting the qcf motion. Fact is if the shortcuts are negatively impacting your performance the problem is your execution.

1 frame reversals are needed when online lag causes that same window to extend to 3 frames, so my idiot little friend if capcom didn't allow for it your failed mashed out srk won't work. Causing a but hurt moron to flame until we end up with sfxt vanilla and those god damn assist gems. So thank capcom because they've given you the tools to stand up even for just a moment with the people who sit in training mode for hours to hone their execution.

In short you've exposed yourself. Well done.

Update this game Ono! No alphas! Darkstalkers or let's hear something about sf5!

Yes to an update for SSF4! Add rolento, Hugo, poison, and Elena. The assets have already been created, I'd gladly pay for DLC if there are new characters and a rebalance.

Please no. Not stupid remakes. :( What a wasted opportunity.

Fans are so dumb, they'll buy the remake, play it for 20 minutes then move on to another casual game. So it will all be for nothing.

Forget Alpha 4, boring; TXSF is still due to come out at some point. Do we really need anymore Street Fighter games? It's time for something different.

@84 Sadfully i agree. I love Street Fighter as much as everyone else but a SF5 or even an Alpha 4 isnt neccessary, and neither is a AE update. Adding more characters seems unnecessary, people were practically CRYING for Elena and then when they finally added her in xT, nobody aside from a few people really used her. And its not as simple as porting over Hugo, Rolento, Poison, and Elena's character models, they will have to be redesigned and balanced to fit into SF4's engine,as well as slightly adjusting their character models for the engine. Not to mention the rest of the cast needs to be rebalanced as well. The community needs to let the game evolve instead of asking Capcom for a balance patch for every little thing. As for the unblockables well simple..dont get put in that situation in the first place. Its called adapting to the metagame. Like i said as huge of a SF fan as i am, i feel at this point they should leave AE alone, and focus on a different franchise like Darkstalkers, or even as unlikely as it is a new Rival Schools or even a Capcom vs Snk 3.

The characters that could be brought over from SFxT are not only the obvious Hugo, Poison, Rolento and Elena. I've said this before, but they could also do Alex, Sodom, Charlie, Gill and Urien based on some of the swap costumes. They would just need some tweaks to the models and the movesets added on. It would take more work then just adding the other 4 but the foundation is there. It's just a matter of if this kind of update will ever happen or not.

Alpha 4? Why? SF4 has most of the cast of Alpha except for Birdie, Sodom, R Mika, Rolento & Karin. Either add them to the roster or move on to SF5, DS4, or CvS3...

Why do people even mention a limit to the amount they would spend on an update? Is $10-30 too much for you? Its pittance compared to what you get back. Get a job. Relax.

Update AE-- leave sf5 for next gen obv.

People who complain about ultras, damage scaling, shortcuts and input leniency are most likely players who think they are better than they are and when they lose , they blame the game. They don't have the mental fortitude to look within and question what it is that they are doing wrong.

Now that we know that next generation consoles are coming out in 2013, i'm pretty sure that capcom are working on their next gen VF fighting games (SFV).

An update of SF IV AE is unlikely to happen.

If Street Fighter Alpha 3 was pretty much Street Fighter II2, then Street Fighter Alpha 4 is pretty much Street Fighter IV. How about just a Alpha collection on the PSN/XBL.

Put the Time and Money into Street Fighter V for 2015.

Eye_of_Orochi, kuiper_felt> Amen to both of you, I think it's absurd that SF X Tekken got an update and SSF4AE won't anyways Ono please upgrade SSF4AE first then do SFA4 but save SF5 for Playstation4 and XBOX720

AlphaLegend> Upgrade for SSF4AE is the right thing right now
