Can't say I'm impressed by that Rog player, looked similar to mine...and that isn't saying a lot. But good games, got Daigo to smile a few times :)

Daigo has trained himself to not become overly excited over winning or losing. It's different from hiding your expression, it's genuinely become passive so as to not let his emotions cloud his execution and mindset.

Reminds me of Goku training in hyperbolic chamber and becoming used to SSJ2 mode full time. In another word, Daigo's trying to be in perma-beast mode.

It's funny it says "Friendly Matches"... ain't nothing friendly about it, Daigo's out for blood.

@7

In his book, Daigo mentioned that despite training his mental stability, occasionally, emotions do creep through. As a matter of fact, losing a prestigious tournament was what brought his temporary retirement from gaming right after EVO 2004.

I believe Justin Wong said it best "Everybody gets nervous, even Daigo gets nervous."

Daigo beat the Adon player so bad that he probably sold his console, his copy of SFIV and changed his hobby. The part where they traded hits and Daigo juggled him with his super got me laughing for a couple of minutes.

Watching Daigo's Ryu is as good as it gets, a beautiful thing to watch Ryu destroying everyone and being controlled the the greatest player.

I still can't figure out what's makes Daigo's Ryu so much better than other top Ryu players. I've been wondering for years. Still can't put my finger on it.

Daigo was the blue ryu in that fight. He was player 2 in every fight.

Daigo didn't lose a single round vs that other ryu...

Jeez, his Ryu is actually kind of brutal to watch in these videos. Super agressive and sick combos. Like anyone else I guess, he plays differently when there's nothing really on the line. Balls to wall. lol

Superior spacing & fundamentals. Unbelievable reads and appropriate punish. Always moving forward whenever possible, except against Fei Long, then it's a backward game.

Daigo however, doesn't have the most perfect execution.

"In his book, Daigo mentioned that despite training his mental stability, occasionally, emotions do creep through." - doesn't this also block the emotion of joy that you get from winning, or just playing and enjoying it?

@22

Daigo derives his joy from discovering little things, he believes if he can discover something new each and everyday, that's joyful in itself. In another word, he has shifted the source of his happiness from winning against an opponent to finding new ways to self-improve.

It's all in his book and I hope it gets translated someday into English, because the book answered many questions about Daigo as a person and as a Street Fighter.

Yes of course. I know how good he is in all those aspects. But why does he win tournaments and other Ryu-players don't? How major tournaments, since 2008, has got a Ryu in top 3 (without Daigo)? It's probably because other top player don't pick Ryu as there main. I mean, give Fuudo or Infiltration 6 months with the character and Ryu will get in top 3. But still. Daigo manages to be the solely performing Ryu player in the world... somehow...

And something entirely else:
What's the average amount of cash that Daigo takes home in playing money-matches during a tournament?

@24

Infiltration did use Ryu but not in the level of Daigo, he needs the more powerful Akuma to win; you know which character did Fuudo main before Fei? Ryu . But he realizes that is much more easy to win with broken Fei Long that with Ryu. Who was Fuudo when he main Ryu? Just another average player, now with Fei is one of the world's best. So it's not like “give Fuudo and Infiltration 6 months with the character and Ryu will get in top 3". The issue is “give Daigo 6 months with Fei Long.."

@26

Infiltration could beat Daigo's Ryu while playing as Ryu.

It's funny how he wasn't "the more powerful" Akuma, when Tokido was repeatedly getting bodied by Daigo, but since someone came along and out spaces, out footsies, and out mindagames Daigo, of course its the character.

I believe that when Fuudo mained Ryu, he won WGC '10 against Daigo's Ryu in GF. Fuudo is a very very reliable player ^^
