Street Fighter X Tekken PC discounted price, $10 on GameFly - additional 20% off with code

Posted by DreamKing23

Important note: GameFly has the Games For Windows Live version, which means that it is not redeemable on Steam and for the time being the DLC colors and characters are inaccessible. Hopefully we'll have news on this from Capcom soon.

GameFly is currently having a sale on PC games in which Street Fighter X Tekken is available at a discounted price. Normally retailing for $39.99 USD, you can download the Capcom and Namco crossover title for only $10.

According to a user on the Cheap Ass Gamer forums, if you use the code GFDFEB20 during your purchase, you can get an additional 20% off. This sale is only going on today, so if you're looking to get your hands on Street Fighter X Tekken PC for only $8, act fast.

Tip by DolphinButter. Thanks to gtfopanda for the help.

Good price, but I would highly recommended only buying from Steam. Non-steam purchases force you to get the DLC directly via GFWL, which has not had a discount and rarely does. Steam has 60% and 75% off sales. Also if you buy the DLC from Steam, once logged into Steam, any GFWL account can access the DLC. You'll still need to login to GFWL and use your key for online play, but with Steam the DLC bought via Steam would be accessible to an offline account without signing in to GFWL. Might not matter to some, but I found this useful.

Is it possible to combine the 5 dollar DLC from steam and use this? If they are both using GFWL, shouldn't it be able to take the DLC from steam and activate for the profile that is being used?

^ No. That won't work. Steam somehow activates the DLC before you log into a GFWL account. Because it handles it this way, they're not compatbile. It's weird because Batman AC worked as you mentioned, but they've integrated the DLC via Steam for this one.

Don't buy this if it doesn't register on Steam guys!

And this is coming from someone who wants to play the damn game...

SFxT on PC currently has a plethora of issues:

- DLC characters not working
- Custom colors not working
- Terrible netcode with frequent desynchs and warps even with people you play fine SF4 and MvC3 with

There's also the issue of the DLC characters discount Capcom promised to PC users which only applied to the Steam version of the game, even if there was no mention of such exclusivity in ComboFiend's post here http://www.capcom-unity.com/combofien...

Don't get it if it's non-Steam, the DLC characters pack alone (which, again, DOESN'T WORK) will cost 20 bucks!

We're trying to get some attention on Capcom Unity, see these links:

http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...

http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...

http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...

http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...

There's more but I can't link dozens of them :E

Would be great if you could chime in in those threads and help rise some awereness on these issues.

I also tried telling EventHubs about the problems with SFxT PC but got completely ignored, it is beyond me why they're posting this news since the game pretty much has no online play and DLC characters + customization aren't working!

@gtfopanda

First Capcom-Unity thread has being locked, and this has been the best response from Sven:

"We are working on getting like pricing on GFWLM but limited info we have not yet resolve this with MS. We are not as" in control "of pricing on Live Marketplace as we are on Steam, and THUS the disconnect.

If you are having Difficulties With The DLC, please post in the Technical Support forum or contact our customer support folks."

For the non-Steam folks, Sven's reply straight from Capcom Unity:

"We are working on getting similar limited pricing on GFWLM but we have not resolve this with MS yet. We are not as "in control" of pricing on Live Marketplace as we are on Steam, and thus the disconnect.

If you are having difficulties with the DLC, please post in the technical support forum or contact our customer support folks."

Hopefully non-Steam users get the discount too!

Edit: lol got ninja'd!

@ Doomsguy: I guess we gotta ask in the tech forum now, colors still aren't working for me (and no way I'm buying the DLC for full 20 bucks with things going like this)!

You weren't ignored man. The info you sent in was a bit vague and as there was no source for that info, I was a bit skeptical to add it in. So I stuck with just the facts from the GameFly site and the Cheap Ass Gamer forum.

Please let me know the most important info I should add to the story and I will gladly do it. Thanks!

So... when you buy this do you get a CD Key that you can activate on Steam or not? Can anyone confirm?

Hey Dreamking, thanks for clarifying!

I should've linked more threads I guess, it's tough when the whole playerbase for the game it's that small and few people bother reporting the issue on Unity (and if it's only a handful of people, chance is they get ignored)...

Many people bought boxed copies of SFxT PC or got the game from other (non-Steam) online retailers, those didn't get the discount Capcom promised since it turned out to be Steam only (but there was no mention of this on Combo's post). Capcom themselves sell the game in their store, and that too doesn't use Steam, so their own copy of the game didn't get the discount they promised.

Sven just posted on Capcom Unity what Doomsguy and me relayed in posts #9 and #10, I think you could add that to the post so that those who didn't buy it on Steam will get to know Capcom's trying to get the 12 characters DLC discounted on GFWLM too.

Here's Sven's post on Unity: http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capco...

About the errors: at this very moment, DLC characters and colors (pretty much anything you need to download from the marketplace, as you know colors were released week after week as free DLC) simply aren't working for non-Steam users, you try downloading them and get various errors. Actually, they haven't worked for about 10 days (if not more).

Gamefly (the retailer for today's news) sells the GFWL version of the game, so if people see the news and buy it, DLC chracters and colors won't work.

Up to you if you want to add this to the news. Colors aren't a big deal, but DLC chars is because you'll be pouring 8 $ for the game and 20 $ on a DLC which not only won't work, but will (hopefully) be discounted in a few days if what Sven said it's true.

I'll try asking Capcom on Unity's tech forum for the GFWL erros, will let you know if there's any update!

The netcode is *****ing horrible, game is so cool for me, but that trashed online, that GFWL, that thing now don't want put me in online, always cannot sign, maybe is the problem with microsoft only. CAPCOM need to release a special patch for PC and consoles too, to fix most of the fully trashed netcode. That's sad, game is painfully died on my eyes ='(

I added a quick note about not being able to use the DLC for non-Steam users. I think we'll use the GFWL discount info from Sven as a separate post to give the issue some more attention. Thanks again for the help. We really appreciate the input.

@12. No the key will not redeem on Steam. It only works to authenticate your account in-game on GFWL. Pretty much don't get this outside of Steam. It adds an extra step for Steam login, but you're better off buying via Steam when on sale.

@ #14

My friend just had that problem with GFWL and SFxT, it wouldn't let him log in anymore!

I don't know if this will fix it for you too, but he fixed it by switching his network connectivity to IPv4 instead of IPv6. He played just fine with v6 till like 2 days ago, then GFWL stopped logging him in.

And I agree, GFWL is just terrible.

I really wish Capcom would release all of their PC games on Steam (or other services like GOG), would really make things better and save Capcom all the troubles with Microsoft patching iter.

@24 just a few days ago the steam version with all DLC included was $23

but I agree, its a bit ridiculous for Capcom to still charge full price for a year old game. that kind of stuff only encourages the "I'll wait for a sale" mentality.

though considering that SFxT has reached the top 2 best selling games on steam for both of its $10 sales maybe the high regular price is supposed to add incentive to buy it before the sale ends.

I started playing online on PC for about 10 matches last night and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I mean sure, there's the occasional lag but that's to be expected online. I think the reason why the 'teleporting' issue is happening is because people don't adjust their graphic setting and benchmark their FPS. There is a thread in the community forums for SFxT on Steam regarding that issue.

Not sure if it is true, but if FPS issues is the culprit, it is recommended that the benchmark FPS should be 80+ (and Rank A) to adjust for occasional spikes of CPU/GPU usage. I'm just speaking from my limited online experiences so if anything, I'm hoping it's a continuing trend with its performance.

Gailim said on February 11, 2013 at 6:02 p.m.

@27

I've seen that thread. it looks and sounds right, but in the end he's wrong. this is a netcode issue, not a hardware issue. the difference he is experiencing is a placebo. he himself admits he still gets the teleporting "sometimes". The consoles had almost the EXACT same issue when the game came out and they fixed the problem by patching the netcode.

play long enough and you will see what everyone is complaining about. Of course its very possible that you were teleporting for some of your opponents. only one of the players experiences it.

gtfopanda's avatar
gtfopanda said on February 12, 2013 at 12:07 a.m.

@ #27

Pretty much what #28 said.

That thread just says to bring fps to like 100 and that will reduce the lag, but that only happens if you're playing with people with super bad computers. I'm talking like 6 years old or with major performance issues.

The lag (desynchs, teleports) we're talking about it's due to the netcode, and that sadly stays. Read the comment to that thread, it did nothing for those people.

Also, in case you don't play regularly with friends: just because you don't warp, it doesn't mean your opponent isn't.

Against this particular buddy of mine the game would work flawlessly for me, but he'd just warp and desynch all the time. If I wasn't in audio chat with him I wouldn't have known.

I keep missing these 1 day deals on the PC version of SFxT. I wasn't interested in trying it on consoles at all, and I've only conceded to purchasing the PC version to boost the numbers in terms of fighting games played on non-consoles. I think the stars are trying to tell me something though, and that I should just give it up... :P
