Ed Boon's Twitter account has been quite active lately with fans asking various questions and leaving him comments. One Twitter user mentioned to Boon that a crossover between the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter franchises must happen one day.
RT @mkwarehouse @noobde MK vs SF HAS to happen someday!EB: It's INEVITABLE... You can quote me on that!;)
— Ed Boon (@noobde) February 8, 2013
One of the recurring issues with a potential Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat crossover is the inclusion of fatalities. Should they be included and if so, how do you guys think both Capcom and NetherRealm Studios should go about handling them?
If the long awaited crossover eventually comes to fruition, what would you most like to see in a Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter title?
Leave your thoughts below.
people need to lighten up, the more fighting crossovers the better I say. Not all fighting games need to be super serious and competetive either, if MK vs SF was just a silly gore fest with a mish mash of controls id still play it.
Anyways, if they were to make a game together i think 16 fighters a side with a 1 on 1 emphasis (and a 2v2 option thrown in like mk9 had) and a story mode put together byt NRS it would be a great game
A dream roster would be:
MK:
Scorpion, Sub Zero, Reptile, Rain, Smoke, Johnny cage, Liu Kang, Raiden, Mileena, Shao Kahn, Kung Lao, Sonya, Kitana, Ermac, Cyrax, Jax would be perfect
For SF i'd say
Ryu, Ken, Chun LI, Guile, Bison, Balrog, Sagat, Vega, Sakura, Karin, Cammy, Akuma, Ibuki, Cody, Guy and Zangief
if the final boss was bison conuming kahns body sh*t would be legendary lol.
Ummm...no. Pass. Make it MK vs. KI, tell Rare to get off their @$$es and make it happen. It's been too long since I've seen that game. Seriously, can you imagine the Toasty guy saying "C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!"? I can. And honestly, I would never see Capcom doing this...they've never been one for gore. And why would they be? MK was always known for that more than gameplay anyway(not to say that it doesn't have depth, but the ESRB wasn't created because of teleports and fireballs).
They should make two of them... Or ask you wether you wish to play it as Street Fighter or like MK. Some supers are already kinda psycho also in SF... Just add a lot of blood, some bone breaking and it done... I imagine Seth getting you into his stomach and only a lot of blood with body parts come out... xD
For those asking for Mortal Kombat vs Killer Instinct....
You do realize that it would only be made for an Xbox system and maybe PC, you would never see it on Playstation systems, or Nintendo systems. Just want to make that very clear to many of you guys.
Killer Instinct is owned by Rare which is now owned by Microsoft meaning Microsoft owns Killer Instinct. Sorry guys.
damn son! make it happen! why people crying about fatalities being done on sf characters or sf doing fatalities? its a game and its an awesome idea
I'd be down as long as Capcom develops it.
The biggest issue is Ryu getting his head ripped off, which I don't think anyone minds except for ... well ... Capcom.
I mean it's not like Street Fighter characters wouldn't be able to do fatalities either. Personally I would really like to see a pile of guts and body parts after a Shun Goku Tatsu.
Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat could work rather well. Story wise you could have Gill open up a portal to the MK realms and use Pandora (since it could be used again since in SFxTEK it implied Ryu was taken to another place via Pandora) as a minor plot device as well as use it as the reason why the good Street Fighter characters will use a fatalities. As for the whole block issue, you can just get rid of the block button, i'm sure Boon is willing to make that sacrifice :P
Would be cool but I just can't imagine the whole fatality thing working within the SF universe. Seeing fatalities on SF characters would make me sad :-(
I would for one love to see Chun Li use a fatality against against Sub Zero. Also, Bison, Juri, Gill, Vega, Balrog, etc all would love the ability to preform fatalities ON screen :P
@99: It's called not being an idiot with your money. They had tons of sales for the dlc. If I wanted it, I had plenty of time to get it for cheap. DLC chars were 12 for $20, which is way better than 4 for $15 or 1 for $5. Also, Nether has done hardly ANYTHING when it comes to contributions to the FGC. I don't see Nether Realms sponsoring tourneys or allowing players into their lobbies to play games. I don't see anything new added to fighting games that came out of MK outside of fatalities from the 90s. They tried going 3D to jack Tekken's style, and look where that got them. Now they went back to 2D to jack SF's EX moves. No new mechanics. No contributions. Hardly any synergy in cross-overs. That's Nether Realms. ;)
Also, 6 chars with similar moves to other people? 6 of them have never been in a 2D fighter before EVER. Then there's Blanka, Elena, Guy, Cody, and Dudley. Only char that's majorly similar to anyone else is Sakura, and she's obvious cause she's a shoto. So thanks for showing us that 6 =/= 1.
Regardless, no MK vs. SF please. Dark Stalkers 4 is something I'd rather see.
Side note: I still remember when the announcer during a MK9 stream just straight up said "this match is so boring" at SoCal. Then they started talking about UMVC3. But just keep bashing on SF X TKN.
We already have fatalities in SF, there called Ultra's and Supers.
Think about it... what happens in SF when a character is dizzy? We set up for a severe punish...
What if, when the opponent is dizzy? There's a special move that is only available to do when the character is dizzy... Kind of like a Dizzy only Ultra...?
I seriously don't get the appeal of fatalities, it's like an intro, when you play someone for the first time you wanna see their intro but after that you gonna skip it and remembering/looking for the input codes takes up a lot of time. BOON needs to realize this, focus on game play and give up on fatalities if he wants this to happen, however blood can still be in, early SF's had blood and bruised faces and X-ray damage can work great, still realistic and not too gory.
I agree with Boon...after that MKvsSF flash vid I remember seeing years ago, I could even see that happening.
its not the fatalities that bother me, its the game it's self, if its anything like MK9 I want no part in it. The game engine/design for that game was sloppy at best. If i9t was to happen though, i would prefer it be made mostly by capcom. I like MK as a series, i just think MK9 was the worst game in the bunch.
Fatalities are everything that's wrong with MK. They make up 80% of the developers focus when they have no strategic value. And what's the sense of even having them in the game when NOBODY in the cast ever dies, or stays dead? It plays out like a more childish episode of Spy vs. Spy with dozens of ninjas and half-naked bimbos.
No matter how high its production values are, this series will always be trailer park trash. Having SF characters crossover with MK would be like infecting them all with HIV.
The Netherrealms version of the crossover could have the fatalities and standard MK mechanics while the Capcom version should work as a typical Street Fighter game. Hopefully it will be a tag system so I could use Ryu and Sub-Zero as a team. :D
Nope, silly idea. Take one look at the MK9 characters, and all of their body postures are EXACTLY the same (with their hands out sideways like people really fight like that), Talk about lazy development. We don't want another Street Fighter: The Movie do we?
I have an idea for this guys.
Like one of the previous guys, I think maybe it should have elements from both gameplaywise. Like you could choose how you want to block or how you input moves and stuff(like Injustice).
As for fatalities, I would say go ahead and put them in. Heck, even give the Street Fighters good ones. BUT, make them UNAVAILABLE online, unless specifically created matches call for it(like private matches where you make the rules). In like online ranked and stuff, out of the question. Wouldn't that please everyone? When you're messing around with friends, they can do it. If you never want to see your character die, don't do it. Simple right?
And another gameplay thing, I say let SF keep their super meter and let MK have their three bar meter. Or, perhaps, choose which one. However, letting people choose would require SF to have X-rays and MK to have Supers.
Just thoughts. What do you guys think?
As much as I'd like Mortal Kombat to cross with another fighter; Street Fighter wouldn't really fit. Not only are there characters like Ryu who has a moral code to not use the Ansatsaku techique for murder; but theres characters like Makoto who would end up causing a damn uproar from the idiotic soccer moms because of people younger than 20-30 getting their heads cut off; especially when the SF series isn't known for being that violent (outside the comics with Gouken's blood splattered). Some like Bison, Akuma, and Oni fit perfectly though (hell, when Oni wins with an Ultra, its hinted he killed the opponent). But Darkstalkers IS a better match because it fits better with the supernatural parts of MK (characters have been killed by being cut in half if done right). Other than that, if it DOES somehow happen, do the SF X TK Method and have one side make one each.
OMG ONLY IF CAPCOM MAKES IT LOL NO NETHER REALM STUDIOS PLEASE.
Before MK9, I would say that they probably wouldn't have anywhere near the skills to handle it. With how surprisingly good MK9 ended up being, and how much I'm wanting to play Injustice, I figure that them handling a Street Fighter crossover couldn't end too badly. That, and Street Fighter's gameplay style really doesn't gel with Mortal Kombat's.
Failing that, they could just put Akuma in MK10 and Scorpion in SF5 and I'd be happy either way.
MK vs SF = NRS made using their resources and style Fatalities included in full along with a long and interesting story mode.
SF vs MK = Capcom made using their resources keeps up the fast paced combat of their fighters while leaving hints of MK like having what would be the block button to be something like an advancing guard and giving super X-Ray effects.
Mortal Kombat doesn't have trades. End of discussion.
I don't really see any problem with Street Fighter characters doing fatalities. Not too far off from reality, really. I mean, think about it...
Ryu- Constantly resisting the Dark Hadou, a murderous force. Also, took quite the chunk out of Sagat.
Ken- Has a wife and kid to protect. Plus, there's Violent Ken.
Chun-Li, Cammy, Guile- Part of the job description. If necessary, they will kill.
Zangief- Could snap anyone in half with little effort.
Akuma, M. Bison, Juri, Seth- obvious.
Vega, Balrog- Agents of Shadaloo. They've probably killed before.
Sagat- Killed Dan's dad.
Dhalsim- Spits fire for crying out loud!
Blanka- Feral and wielding tons of electricity.
Sakura- She follows in Ryu's footsteps. If he goes dark, she might too.
Dan- I see him as the guy who would try to do a fatality, fail at it, and end up killing himself in the process.
E. Honda- Erm, IDK. His hot temper causes him to pummel someone to death?
One game by NRS (fatalities, brutalities, animalities)
The other game by Capcom (friendships, babalities, stage finish)
Or if it's only one game:
Let NRS work on the story and content. And, for the love of god, let Capcom do the coding, training mode and netcode.
Gosh, let us hope not.
MK has very bad animations, and the whole theme just doesn't clique with me. At the same time, I just think it's a terrible idea overall. I remember being a little reluctant when they came up with SFxT but it turned out greatly. I'm not sure, AT ALL, about MK. Please don't.
Who cares if the SF cast gets decapitated..its a video game, they dont actually die.
I'm all for this. They had great history of rivalry [sf2 vs mk-mk2] so why not let them duke it out.
It would be better to go for MK vs Darkstalkers.
That franchise blends much more naturally with MK. Fatalities can still be included, the theme of the game wouldn't suffer, and honestly DS characters would benefit from MK's story writing. NRS has proven with MK9 and the upcoming Injustice that they know how to keep interest in single-player. And giving Kitana a valid reason to fight Morrigan is a lot better than just pitting Ryu & Scorpion against each other and hoping hype will do the rest.
fatatlities are a problem but this can work with the dizzy system. When a street fighter gets dizzy they can get out of it. So when a fatatlity is going to happen give the opponent a chance to get out. Leaving the victore a chance to win the round or style. If they choose style you have to fight the opponent with a pixel of life.
To every single dumb ass that commented about 2 games. The game will be MK vs SF, not a bs MK x SF and then another SF x MK. Stop talking about "SF x MK will have this and MK x SF will have that". It won't happen idiots, it'll be just one game, mixing both styles, the way it's supposed to be. Read Ed Boons post, "MK vs SF is innevitable", not "MKxSF".
@115 You really must be retarded, MK9 ripping off SFEX (aka one of the worst fighting games eever)? Really dude, theres something wrong in your brain. Plus you heard a single match were some commentator (who most likely knows jack about the game) said is boring. Why not see the whole EVO events? Or Battle & Brew, or Canada Cup, NEC, CEO, PDP, and dozens if not hundred other tournaments. Right now only two games receive more hype than MK, and thats SF (obviously), and UMvC3, which is not a great game (1, 2, 3 launch, super, rinse and repeat, is pathetic), but is definitely one of the most entertaining to watch. The fact that NRS doesn't host tournaments means nothing. The fact that they made the game a perfect fit for the competitive players and that the FGC has embraced it as one of the best right now, is what matters. But what do you know, you're just an NRS hater for 0 reasons. And so are the ones that insist MK is only about fatalities as if you couldn't input a code to remove them. Thats as stupid as saying SF is only about hadoukens. lol
All right, speaking as somebody who actually isn't a fan of SF4, can somebody humor me and tell me why Netherrealms developing would be a bad thing? :V I personally never noticed the animations when the game's running 60 FPS, and I kind of like MK's mechanics more, so...
sounds good! Akuma already has a fatality the raging demon lol. the real question is would this game be 1-vs-1 or team fighting? if it's a team game, my team will be Chun-Li and Kitana! also, babalities and friendships will be funny! :)
I would like SFxMK, As long as Capcom develops it! The game could us a modified SF4 engine like SFxT but it should be in the Mortal Kombat world so we can see what Capcom's take on the outword would look like. SF's need to keep their ultras and the MK cast need to keep their X-Ray moves. As far as fatalities...I say go for it, it's not like the game would be canon or anything and I think it would be fun to see the MK cast keep them as long as the SF's get a new Mechanic as far as a finishing move! And no gems
Mk is a fighting game for the simple minded....not for the world of SF!
@153: Wow...just wow...
1) EX MOVES. Not SF EX. Are you kidding me? Don't toss insults and fail at the same time.
2) Capcom's new thing is to X everything. Idk, I like the trend. No crossing with MK, though, plz.
3) SoCal was the latest event I saw MK at, and it was even less watched that Persona 4 Arena. KoF13 and Tekken Tag Two generate significantly more hype than MK9. Evo 2012 last year is fine and dandy, but as of now? Not much hype.
4) The fact that NRS hasn't done jack crap for the community outside of jacking SF mechanics, polishing their own game with it, and tossing it out without keeping it relevant over time shows how much "Crapcom" does nothing but "milk their customers" while NRS "made a perfect fighter that everyone's d**k is rock hard for even as I'm typing this", huh? No new mechanics for the fighting game genre. No support for the fighting game community. No hype for the fighting game itself. GG.
5) @148: Actually, I'd mind if SF characters were killed in my game. MK characters don't have much personality outside of "testosterone filled warrior seeking to mutilate EVERYBODY". SF characters actually have some personality to them. Sure, a lil joke here or there is fine (can't count how many times Mario gets killed in Dorkly Bits), but I definitely wouldn't buy a hyper violent SF game, much like how I wouldn't buy a hyper violent Super Smash. If I want a hyper violent game, I go to the game I expect that type of stuff from, not literally force it into a game that isn't so.
If it didn't have fatalities and X-Rays, I'd probably consider it, but I'm sure there are dudes that are on the other side of the spectrum that'd hate that too.
actually i was on a website and i read about the twee that ed did to seth killian and also read that seth replied by saying " rated m or gtfo lol".
so i guess it could berated m instead of teen.
but anyway i would so love it if this happens .
i would love to saw sakura in half ,that would be so sick.
cant wait for it to happen.
This post is old, but I just have to throw this in there....Darkstalkers would not fit fighting MK better than Street Fighter. It may be more brutal and have the bloody stuff but the movesets of the two games' casts just wouldn't fit together.
dark stalkers vs mortal kombat sounds like a game that would be the fit
just cant imagine ryu ripping someones head off, on the other hand i can see dimitri ripping someones head off and drinking from the fountain of blood that would flow from the opponents neck.
it would be awesome if it would come out! i argee to everyone else saying that street fighter is for kids and mk is for real gamers so there cant be fatalitys or there would be stupid fatalitys like in mk vs dc universe but i would still buy it. ryu sould have a fatality where he does a superchared hadunken that destroys someone's body and chun'li sould have 1 where she kicks you though the heart and akuma sould have one where he beats you to death. that would be awesome
too many people hating on this possibility!!!!!.....it doesnt matter who does what but, i would prefer to see the street fighter chracters look more realistic like in mk. but if not im still getting this game. as for blood, they should just let players have the option of enabling blood and gore like in call of duty. no need to over think a solution to such an epic cross over.
