RZR|Latif continues his Diary of a Gamer blog entries on the Razer site with his 3rd installment. In this piece, Latif discusses his arcade experience in Japan, their gaming culture, the types of players there are, tournament behavior and more. The other kind are players are those who just go to the arcade and sit there for many hours. This includes the top players that we all know of such as MCZ|Daigo, Sako, RZR|Fuudo, MCZ|Mago, Bonchan, Uryo and many other great players. Of course, there are many players who show up there on a daily basis but it gets really crowded on the weekends and during tournament seasons. I liked the arcade environment when I went over there because you get to play against so many good players. Almost everyone who is there knows how to actually play the game. Since each game costs almost $1.00, everyone always tries to play his best to win since winner stays on.
I used to play Sekiganryu (#2 Ryu) in online 2 years ago. I had fun playing him on psn. great diary from latif.
This Diary of a Gamer reflects perfectly.
I can understand that the online in the US is nothing like Japan's Arcades, well not everybody gots a perfect internet connection.
Also there is other ways to become better to a fighter.
Even the states involves alot of drama explains perfectly about the FGC in general, while Japan has no such drama and even it involves playing more for fun which is important.
Heck Arcades is what makes a very good fighter game, while Console Marketing does no such thing besides getting a game rushed for the release date.
Sometimes I wish we had the same way as Japan.
It's not just about Internet connection. A lot of the best players in Japan spend hours in arcades every day. If people in US did that, the skill level might go up and super arcade wouldn't have to ask for donation.

no, CA player vs CA player still sucks online. We are still using old cable and old technology.
I think only CenturyLink offers fiber optic internet($120/month) in my area that has the similar average speed of Japan, but still slower than their top tier internet speed. I can play with my friend in different state(CA and WA) with little lag or no lag. because we have 100MBps internet.
Verizon still use CDMA that the reset of the world don't use it anymore. That's why you can't even talk on the phone and use Internet at the samething.
They also have way better infrastructure than USA does.
@13, we have fast internet.(still slower than Japan, Finland and Korean) Most people and companies are just cheap.
If you live in big cities, you should able to get 100MBps internet.
England is small too, they have slow internet. I think it's illegal to offer slow Internet in Finland. lol This forces companies to upgrade. They have no option.
You wack a@@ busters believe what this dude is saying? Japan has been better than USA before "online" was even invented. FACT. It's the approach to the game among other things. Retard thinking that its online play that makes a difference. Latif 0 Infil 7. Enough said.
@20
I hate to be rude but this man's accomplishments and his overall ability make him much more believable than you sir. Excuse me if I give his words more worth than some random Eventhubs poster.
There is some truth to your words, but Infiltration simply has more weight than you or I. Also, Infiltration is Korean, not Japanese.
We already know Japan are a Million times better than America, and there is nothing they can do about it EVER!
In the USA its less about the size of the country and more about corporate greed. The cable companies operate an average line on a 97% margin. That means out of the 50 or 60 bucks you pay per month, only 3% is necessary for the maintenance of the physical line and the data draw. The other 97% is pure profit. The USA government has also granted them BILLIONS of dollars in tax incentives and kickbacks to improve our infrastructure in both the 90s and 2000s but they did neither. Instead Comcast bought NBC....with our money.
I think the richness of their arcade scene has more to do with the right environment than the online experience.
Going to arcades is a rich part of Japanese culture and until that becomes so in any other country, the general level of skill in Japan will always be higher. Of course, there will always be the outliers such as the Infiltrations, Latifs and what-not of the world.
Online and accessibility to top players are factors. The biggest factor is mentality.
All of you who are talking about getting the fastest internet speeds possible at your ISP like 100 Mbps to have a better online SF experience don't know sh*t about how online gaming works.
A 1 Mbps download/upload connection is MORE than enough to run SF4 and have voice chat without facing any bottlenecks whatsoever. What's important in online gaming is latency/ping and the stability of the connection, i.e getting consistent low response times without losing any packets.
That's where the network infrastructure comes to play, Japan has an amazing network where people can get consistent <6ms response times against local servers/competition, that's less than half a freaking frame, which is why we hear a lot of people from Japan say that online feels almost identical to playing offline.
With that said, excellent networks aren't exclusive to Japan, there are other great networks around the world, but the sad part is that user error/ignorance plays a major role in messing things up online, e.g people playing on wireless instead of wired, downloading torrents or streaming stuff on youtube, sharing their internet with their home..etc
I think the fact that they have a lively arcade scene over there is more of a factor. Over here in the EU, we have good connections overall (especially within the same country) and the average level is nowhere near Japan's.
If you pay for each match you will not play like you play online. Each game becomes an investment. And you will learn much faster because you get to see a lot of other skilled players at work when you are not fighting them yourself.
