Updated: A new Japanese trailer for Skullgirls has recently been uploaded, this shows the individual posters for each character that will be available over on Sanshee.

It has recently been reported that Skullgirls will be seeing a Japanese release very soon. Playstation 3 users in Japan will be able to purchase the game for 1,500 yen or $16 USD.

According to the official Skullgirls Twitter, the game will be released on Valentines Day, February 14, 2013.

Skullgirls will be out on Japanese PSN on 2/14! Valentine's Day with Valentine!

The overseas release is being made possible by a publisher named CyberFront that localizes games from other countries to Japan. In the past, they have brought games from the West, to Japan such as Nano Assault and Test Drive Unlimited 2.

I hope it does well. Japanese gamers seem to be picky when it comes to American titles.

Knowing how the game is, I think this might actually do pretty well in Japan.

Huh, assumed it came out around the same time we got it. Still, this is good news and hopefully it gets a bigger following in Japan for... various reasons >.>

Skullgirls did fairly well I think, as the game was not pushed by a major publisher.

Release PC version already so I can steal it. Never would pay for a bad UMVC rip but totally worth a steal.

@ #17, if you're really willing to wait almost a year and a half to steal a 15 dollar game maybe you should reassess you're priorities.

Also if skullgirls is a rip of anything, it would probably be mvc2 (a favorite of mike's) or some kind of team based darkstalkers.

@19 Wait... so because I do not wanna spend $15 on a game that doesn't look that interesting to me I need to reassess my priorities?

Sorry brah but not only did I bait you with my own troll post, you didn't even give me anything good to work with in your response. I honestly forget skullgirls even exists until eventhubs or SRK puts something up about it so no I haven't been waiting for anything, I just was happy to hear it was getting a PC release so I could give it a try, for free.

Well, this should be good for the dev team. This seems like something Japan would be interested in.

More money = more support!

And definite cosplay overload approaching.

Yet When SG was initially released, Autumn Games got calls from Sony/Microsoft Japan about when was their release date(They thought they were getting one) because gamers were giving them angry phone calls inquiring about Skullgirls

Keep trying mate

@ 27

If Skullgirls sees as many sales as ASBR, that'll actually be pretty good for an American indie game in Japan. At least I think so.

Gamers in Japan must know about Skullgirls so they probably already know if they want it or not. Sales numbers will be pretty telling within the first month or two.

lol at the 0niners saying this is a rip off a UMVC3. They took elements off actual GOOD games (GG, mv2, vampire, ect)and use those inspirations to build into this one.

if anyone is wondering if Japan would even be interested in this game, there is a decent amount of Japanese fanart for the game. it's pretty awesome. i wouldn't be surprised if on the anime side, people pick it up just for the characters. and who knows about FG players, so fickle. ~w~
