Rainbow Road is Super Smash Bros. 3DS' latest stage, Sakurai says it'll be 'cruise-type', Rosalina will have an anti-gravity effect

Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai took to Miiverse today in order to post his pic of the day featuring a screen shot from the 3DS iteration of franchise. In today's image, we learn that Rainbow Road, from the Mario Kart series, is the newest revealed stage set to be in Super Smash Bros. 3DS.

Sakurai left a brief note under the screen shot saying that Rainbow Road will be a "cruise-type" stage. Although he did not specify what that means exactly, it is more than likely that this arena will be much like the Rainbow Cruise or Poke Floats stages in Melee. These stages move the players through the a backdrop, while the platforms you fight on change.

Check out the image of Rainbow Road, and Sakurai's message below

Pic of the day. Happy Holidays! Here's a new 3DS stage--Rainbow Road! It can't be explained in one picture, but it's going to be a cruise-type stage.

Additionally, we have a few other "pics of the day" showcasing the Wii U version of Smash. As you can see in the Rosalina image below, her height far exceeds that of Mario and Peach. Sakurai mentioned that this new fighter, although very tall, "boasts an anti-gravity" effect and is very light. Perhaps Rosalina will have a jump that floats a bit more than the traditional characters; we'll have to wait and see.

Welp, time to try and not fall off the stage every 10 seconds.

Rainbow road probably = mute city type stage based on the platform and series it's from. But rainbow road? That's exciting, and it's gonna look beautiful on the wii u. Hopefully it's not too gimmicky so it's not banned.

Rosalina was always a heavyweight and how she's decided to not be? Ok then... Also based on the vid her jump looks kinda bad, like peachs old jump, but peach had the float and recovery to make up for it, do well see... And light characters die faster... The more I hear the more I'm liking this steep skill cap sound

Judging by the screenshot, I'd say Rainbow Road is probably more like Delphino Plaza, with that big central platform that takes you around to different fighting areas. It falls into the "Cruise-style" that Sakurai describes.

Argh I wish her weight was at least average. That's one thing I don't like about Peach. She's so floaty. She has the necessary tools to somewhat reduce the chance that she'll be punish because of it, but still... Well we'll see. I'm still gonna try and main Rosalina anyway.

It's Rainbow Road from Mario Kart. Of course it has a gimmick. And that Gimmick is... that you will fall... a *LOT*. Beware the Pitfall items and any moves that can bury you through platforms!

Yep, all Platforms will most likely be Soft. Except maybe on the edges of the main platform.
