Harada: Street Fighter X Tekken created a whole new community, we want that to grow with TxSF

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • August 3, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. PDT
Harada: Street Fighter X Tekken created a whole new community, we want that to grow with TxSF Namco Bandai hasn't revealed much about Tekken X Street Fighter, their counterpart to Capcom's Street Fighter X Tekken, which was released in March 2012, but Katsuhiro Harada said recently that he feels the latter game seemed to create a whole new community — one that they want to take care of and grow with their own release.

"It was not just Tekken fans and Street Fighter fans merging, there seems to be a whole new community growing around [Street Fighter X Tekken] that wasn't playing either of the titles up until that point. That was very unexpected, but quite cool. It’s something we want to take care and grow. Rather than throw out our title right away while those people are still interested in [Street Fighter X Tekken] we are looking for the right time because we are still developing [Tekken X Street Fighter]," said Harada.

Harada also stated the game is still in development, but an elucidation of why Namco hasn't been as forthcoming with more information was offered.

"There are several reasons why we haven't released any updates. One of the reasons is, Street Fighter X Tekken was released. That still had updates until recently."

Harada noted that the team is still moving along the development cycle, though, but things are hush-hush for the time being. "We are making progress, but everything is secret so we can't say anything about that."

Previously, Namco relayed that Tekken X Street Fighter may cater to beginning players in a similar fashion as Tekken Revolution, and that the title may be making its appearance on next-generation hardware, instead of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Harada is the most endearing and kind FG dev out there, I swear. Capcom treats the online fiends of SFxT like the weird red-headed stepchild, and Harada's just like "nah, it's cool you can chill with us instead, to hell with those guys"

Xoleworld said on August 3, 2013 at 1:10 p.m.

The game has to cater to new comers since it will be the first of it's kind and, we all will be new to the fighting style /engine/ mechanics. I just hope the character selection is big and has customization the tekken way. Pallete swaps are so weak now. I want different shirts for Vega and Lee!!!!!!

#20
xShonuffx said on August 3, 2013 at 1:12 p.m.

@18 Probably from your limited perspective they are but considering he has been in game design longer than all of us, I'm sure he knows what he is talking about. Only people who actually stopped playing or never played it think the community is dead but how would you know if you don't play? Same goes for TTT2.

What ever happens it simple just should. Deliver on the game make it good make it shine through all the blaring mistakes in the previous installment. Just do right by your customers is all I have to say.

#28
DJScrubble said on August 3, 2013 at 1:25 p.m.

@23 Really? The game isn't out yet, nor have they released details.

Anyway, if you like Tekken Rev, you're most likely going to like TxSF. That game is clearly catering to new players (e.g. no bound), and a little to SF players by adding flashy animations and what not. Lastly, I feel like they're taking the SCV route and going to add a super meter.

#29
kirbykirbykirby said on August 3, 2013 at 1:28 p.m.

SF x Tk didn't create a new community. If it did, it's a very SMALL community and most of the people in that community are from SF. I mean, the number of participants at Evo explained it all.

cikame said on August 3, 2013 at 2:54 p.m.

To those scared of it catering to beginners, remember that Tekken has always been described that way just by virtue of it's basic mechanics allowing for random mashy fun. Amateur players don't need to carefully measure frames to play Tekken, whereas the extremely rigid approach of SF caused the developers to introduce things like auto combos and simple inputs.

Tekken gameplay has always been approachable, SF has had very strict rules for so long they can't tone it down further than they did in 4 without alienating us.

LarenzW said on August 3, 2013 at 3:03 p.m.

I actually loved SF X Tekken! Might be the part of the few that do,anyway after playing every street fighter and tekken game, excluding the ones in japan, I was hyped when I played it. Not a big fan of gems,
loved the roster. I know TXSF will be even better! Please add Jun, Raven, and Yoshimitsu Harada, thanks. :)

Baby_Astaroth said on August 3, 2013 at 3:49 p.m.

Pretty sure it's going to be a next gen game.

I was watching Undisputed II earlier and I really wish 3D fighters had realistic block animations based on the moves the fighters are blocking. Maybe someday...

Oblivious and blind haters in here. SFxT DOES have a decent sized online community with a lot of new faces. Just because you don't like the game doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Stay ignorant FGC.

Well I was excited bout this game but just not anymore. Won't be buying a next-gen console til' they are out a long while as there's always problems with the first revisions and because it's Harada, we'll never see a pc release most likely.

Keep Bound Moves in Tekken x Street Fighter Harada / Namco Bandai !

#62
SolidSul said on August 3, 2013 at 5:47 p.m.

I for one really enjoyed SFxTK as a game, for the community it Did bring in new comers to participate and have ago, despite it's failure.TKxSF will be a smash hit and will be picked up by already fgc members and even more newcomers i hope

#63
Yarott said on August 3, 2013 at 5:59 p.m.

No Bound moves in Tekken X Street Fighter, Harada! Everyone else who's not from Eventhubs is happy without them! Which should show to the rest of the FGC why Tekken Revolution is Namco Bandai's currently successful business model!

But something has to be done about those Critical/Special Arts. Maybe have some kind of gauge that limits their use. They're probably the most spammed clutch moves in Tekken Revolution.

#64

#65
bigjbilly said on August 3, 2013 at 7:07 p.m.

I don't care much for SFxT, but don't hate it. Hopefully TxSF is a tad bit easier than TTT2.

#66
Xykes said on August 3, 2013 at 7:14 p.m.

He's right.

SFxT is the only game I really enjoy playing these days. Same with many other folk.

EVO registration clearly shows that a lot of people still play SFxT.
Online is still quite populated. And, as of now, SFxT has shipped more copies than UltimateMvC3.

If many of you actually got off your keyboards, and played the game, you'd find a lot of other people already playing.

But, whatever. If a year and a half of pure SFxT hate couldn't kill SFxT, then that just proves that many of you simply don't matter. The game will be played with or without you.

Harada knows how to filter through blind haters, and get to the truth of things. So, kudos to him.

#67
LarenzW said on August 3, 2013 at 7:17 p.m.

Lol at people complaining at the bounds. Bounds changed tekken in a different way on how you do combos, why would they change it? Then again, its going to cater to noobs and spammers, i.e. Tekken Revolution.

#68
HooliganComboFTW said on August 3, 2013 at 7:34 p.m.

As long as the game plays more like Tekken Revolution then TTT2

#69
rc_on said on August 3, 2013 at 7:35 p.m.

@#45 You are straight up dumb. SFxT was 5th with roughly 545 entrants. More than KoF13, P4A, TTT2 and Mk9.
My brain is melting from reading retarded comments. I should just read the articles.
