Tip sent in by Super_Honda.
I pre-ordered the game abut 2 weeks in advance, and so far, it's totally worth the money! IT's awesome. The tag assault system gives you so many options. I can see it being really useful in the future. The only thing i can think of for imporvment is the inclusion of some sort of ball-related game... *cough* tekken bowling *cough*
Anyone else feel that Reviews for Fighting Games are just stupid?
IGN reviewers are all use to playing hold your hand games, honestly I doubt any of them actually play fighting games. Probably just some douche mashing button...failing and then complaining about it not being nice to newbies
IGN - failing to give decent game reviews since 1998... nah, that's not fair, 2008. That's when it started to suck balls. I mean c'mon, they gave Tekken Hybrid an 8 and SFxT a 9. Are you kidding me?
*realises the person/people reviewing it are allowed to have differing opinions* meh... whatever. I'll still enjoy it; as long as I do that's all that matters.
I do hope with all these "so -so" Reviews. This game still sells well.
Tekken team gave a lot of Content and very fair to their fans, so they deserve their money. If this game doesn't make their goal, I will be disapointed.
Plus it would be a teaching lesson to companies like Capcom on how to do their marketing right.
@3
Most of them gave SFxT a higher score. So yeah, they are stupid.
@ #5
Completely agree, though it never fails to amuse me how IGN and Destructoid confirm pretty much every time they're worthless at doing their job.
You know, a 'certain' fighting game got 9 and 8.5 despite being a bugged beta with cut content and no single player.
@ #1
Tekken Ball and Tekken Bowl, we need those :(
Lol, slamming on SFxT, at the base of it, it is a good game, and deserved better reviews then ttt2. The only reason people critisize it is down to a few things, most people hate it because it's "boring to watch." Or even just follwing the crowd. ttt2 is preety titsed up in most places and just like tekken 6 lol
ign's review was the worst review i've ever seen. everybody over at ign and their youtube page is ranting on that fool.
These scores reflect that to the casuals this is not a good investment. I agree with these scores.
Most people on this site will shelve or sell this game in less than a month. *yawn* No different from what happened with Tekken 6.
Thing about 3d games for me, they are not fun to master. It's basically a lot of memorization. Having to know every char's strings is not fun at all.
@12
sf x tk is sf4 with tekken characters and everything else about it is just ugly.
@15 LOOOOOLLLLL, and your saying tekken tag 2 isn't tekken 6 with...hardly any new characters? SFxT is a smooth game, Ill admit, I'm not the biggest fan of it because the lack of players and community but it still is a smooth game which rewards skill.
I'm not looking to buy the game since I'm running low on hard drive space. I'm looking to buy a hard drive for my PS3 (original model, 40 GB) and which hard drives are good and reliable? So far, I'm looking to buy either Seagate Momentus or Western Digital Scorpio hard drive (320 GB or 500 GB). I appreciate it if anyone provides good information.
@19
I'd say it's just not very fun to most to remember 60-100 strings per character.
Fighting games is about mind games and out thinking your opponent. You can't start doing this until you remember what is mid low high and how each chars strings go into them.
Besides... Persona was new and had more single player things to do...
IGN gave Tekken a low score because of the lack of offline content..
Lol at everyone, he didn't say there was TOO MUCH CONTENT, he said the way it's presented it in your face. Which is right, to new players who haven't played tekken before, knowing which character to pick and which mode to toy around with first is a kick in the balls, IMO, fair review, 7.5 maybe a little too harsh though
@24 With quite a few new mechanics and tweaks, ttt2 is tekken 6, with a partner and like 1-2 new mechanics. I don't see why everyones getting a boner over ttt2 tbh. Tekken 6 was a bit of a dissapointment, so I don't see why ttt2 won't follow in it's path
This wouldn't be as bad if all these sites didn't think 7.5 was average as opposed to 5.0 like the geniuses they are.
@MRnightmuffin he doesn't like that so much content is presented right in our face? Maybe Namco should have hidden half the content on the disc.
@27 Lol, you suck, why is everybody on this site an idiot? Call of duty in escence, is a good, fun smooth and enjoyable, addictive game. Thats why it get's high scores, it's the smoothest shooter out there. ttt2 is too in your face and un-accesable
@28 can you get any dumber? It's just the way things are laid out, it's too excentric japanese if you don't mind me saying, like if a new player picks the game up, does that story mode with the robot to learn the game, they're gunna be like wtf is this crap. It's nothing differen't to tekken 6 either.
@MRnightmuffin I sure can get dumber. We've got you praising a rather universally hated game on a Tekken oriented comment section as a good template for me to reach.
But seriously though, I don't hate SFxT. I was being daft with that remark. I will say this though: you don't like Tekken I assume. Or at least the newer ones. That's fine. Why you think it's your duty to flame everyone who disagrees with you or even those who passive-aggressively do, is beyond me. A guy justifiably comments on CoD's non-deserved praise and you say he sucks. Congrats.
Wow, many of you people are so quick to jump to the conclusions right away. I'm not exactly a huge fan of IGN but they have given at least 9 out of 10 or higher for Tekken 2, 3, 4 and 5. IGN gave the first Tekken a 7.5, exact same score for TTT2, interestingly. Check those scores out if you don't believe me. Let's be honest, has Tekken games in general have changed a lot in recent years? Not so much, right? Obviously hardcore players will see the game differently and for the casual players, they may have feel that TTT2 is similar to past Tekken games.
Maybe that will change when Namco makes Tekken X Street Fighter and that will definitely force Namco to make a handful of changes to the Tekken's engine, just like what Capcom did for SFxT. It's not always about having so much content (I've read that the single player content is not enough), the gameplay will ALWAYS come first, then content comes later. A fighting game can over 100 characters with loads of other content but if the gameplay ends up being poor, that ruins it big time. Of course, TTT2 looks good overall. Anyway, once I get my new hard drive for my PS3, I will get TTT2.
That GamesBeat article said it PERFECTLY:
"CONCLUSION
While Namco Bandai went out of its way to pack Tekken Tag Tournament 2 with an impressive number of characters and features, I came away from the game with a somewhat indifferent feeling. This is the Tekken I fell in love with, the Tekken that conditioned my thumbs as a teenager, and the Tekken that continues to put a smile on my face. But this is also the same Tekken I’ve played over and over again, even with the tag wrinkle taken into consideration.
I just feel the experience needs reinvention. And I’m not talking about more exclusive Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion) tracks and swimsuit costume packs.
Tekken doesn’t need more stuff. It needs more focus. Like the archetypical weathered warrior, the franchise needs to look within to find inspiration."
TEKKEN DOESN'T NEED MORE CONTENT.
IT NEEDS NEW CONTENT.
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, AND I HOPE NAMCO LEARNS THIS.
God forbid reviewers give your game a bad score. It's just opinions people. Don't take it to heart.
Agree completely with 35, great quote.
Things not looking good for ttt2, it will have it's traditional hardcore following as always, but it doesn't look like it will break new market for newcomers, the thing has grown so complex it's a newbie's nightmare. I'm curious about DOA5, we'll see what happens, but still I think that any fighter with 100s moves will always have a hard time to get mass following.
As someone who hasn't played a Tekken since Tag 1, I am pretty jacked aout this game.
Reviews have subjective and objective parts. It is hard to take a review, especially of a fighting game, at face value. While content and modes can be universally judged, something like familiarity is very subjective. For me this whole game will be a brand new, and likely awesome experience. For someone who has played all of the recent Tekkens, casually or hardcore, they may be asking what is the big deal-its the same exact game with a tag function.
hardcore fighting or Tekken fans will see this as the optimum Tekken experience and everything they wanted. A casual player will see T6 with some new content.
I am not surprised to see this game get "average" and "great" scores.
#35 That took the words right out of my mouth, literally, I couldn't have said it better myself.
But really guys? God forbid anyone has any negative feelings about this game. I'm too grew up with Tekken since I was little. But it does have a lot of content, no doubt about that, but aside from the Tag abilities and such, it feels just like Tekken 6. :/
HOWEVER I am a S-U-C-K-E-R for customization, so Harada, you got me there. Maybe I'll really get into it this time, but so far, Customization is what is keeping me coming back.
....And Michelle/Lili/Jaycee.
I haven't really played any Tekken game seriously since Tekken 4 in the PS2.. And I've barely played 6. Once the initial hype about TTT2 dies down though, I might consider buying it. Though at this point I'm too used to SFIV that I can barely play Tekken decently anymore :/.
if you are a tekken fan or a fan of the game being reviewed, then scores dont really matter, you will enjoy and look at the game in a total different light BUT if your a casual gamer then these scores can help.
Wait, so when famitsu gave the game a 39/40 everyone hopped on the cock of mainstream reviews, but now that the game is getting 7 and 8s across the board, now mainstream reviews are crap, again? Pathetic!
Anyway, I like this game and I don't even like full 3d fighters. Game gets an "A" in my book. Can't wait to get back home to play it.
People who hardly play Tekken will agree with the scores. What I don't understand is why people are complaining about this game playing like Tekken 6. Why would they come up with a new engine when there is nothing wrong with the old one? Also shouldn't they save that for Tekken 7? SFxT has only two new additions to combat. The no-timing-noob combo thing and the ability to switch characters. I played the game for a week and reached B-class. SFxT is one of the worst fighting games out.
Tekken isn't a game for scrubs...it's a REAL fighting game. TTT2 is similar to when Capcom put out Super Street Fighter 4 after Street Fighter 4. SSF4 only had 12 new characters. TTT2 has 17 new characters with better graphics, new customization, slightly more moves and a tag system that makes SFxT feel like s**t. Seriously I really wish I wouldn't have wasted my money on that crap. I went back playing SSF4 after like two weeks.
Are any of these guys agreeing with these 7.5 ratings some of the harada bandwagoners from before? I'm really curious about it. Since this is the very first tekken im learning seriously, everything is new to me, besides the characters, so I don't see what the deal is. It seems that the casuals still don't wanna try and learn a game, they want to button mash or have something easier to play. If so, that's fine, just don't knock the game because you lack the patience to learn it. I'm willing to put in the time to learn it, and this is coming from a serious SF, KOF, and mvc3 player who grew buttonmashing on tekken games. Yes, the extensive movelists are intimidating, but you gotta take things one step at a time. You can't expect to learn one combo and immediately hop online. The game has tons of content, beautiful stages and characters, sick music that can be replaced by your own, etc. Its the best fg I've played all year, and I look forward to learning the game. Guess that's my review. In no way does this game deserve below a 9 IMO, and I'm not even being biased. Apologies for the novel.
The Destructoid critic gave a FAR more convincing argument for their 7.5 score than IGN's. Although being a huge fan of the series for almost two decades, I would give the game at least a 9 myself.
I can see why people who aren't hardcore FGC heads wouldn't warm to the gameplay, honestly. Tekken isn't an easy game to get into. And for the crapton of stuff crammed into the game, there are still basic things that would appeal to more casual players that aren't there, like an extensive story mode.
But for me? This is a huge improvement over T6, both in terms of gameplay and the overall package. I'm having a blast with it (even though I'm super free).
I'm surprised. And here I thought content (more often than not Fluff) would take precedence over gameplay when it came to fighting game reviews from these casual sites. Still, you can kind of narrow down the criticisms to "TTT2 being more of the same" which is dumb coming from the reviewer who claimed to have like that at one point. It makes you wonder what he was expecting it to be.
If you agree that Ign reviews are fair then what makes SFxT a better game? It has less characters, less stages, less online content, less offline content. I'm just wondering who actually has taken the time to play Tag 2 and what specifics are you dissatisfied with. To me it seems like a good successor to Tag 1, but I'm wondering what is it that makes you think differently.
@ Synless (#54)
That was a comment so gold, I had to log in just to give you praise. Not even hopping on the band wagon, but your reply makes perfect sense. How can less be ranked so much higher?
I will keep my money for something fresh and new like Injustice God Among Us and it will out sell all these boring fighting games lately like SFXT and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
@54
I think its due to a casual players perspective.
sfxt - was new, a tag system had never been seen in the sf world, and it was a cross over with tekken
this to a casual player is something new and fresh
ttt2 - i dont know much about tekken but what ive gathered is from a casual perspective if you been casually playing the last few tekkens you might find this game fairly similar and a bit boring but you have to remember this is from a casual perspective
more means nothing to a casual player sometimes, sometimes they just want something new.
i think tekken fans will see this score and it will mean nothing to them, they know what to expect and they cant bloody wait
but to a casual tekken player like myself, this title doesn't mean much, game will still be too complex and will lead me to just button bash, and as i am not a tekken fan, i dont really care for all the extra's or customisation, this title looks very solid from a fans perspective or if you are interested in learning the dynamics of tekken.
The comments about how "Nothing has changed since the old Tekken." is just stupid.
I mean, listen to yourselves.
If I said "I don't know why there are all these hype about SF4! It is just like SF2!!", then people will go nuts and explain to me about why it is different and how I am too dumb to not to realize that.
The 3D fighting fan community is going nuts right now about how different TTT2 is from T6. Every nuances and tag mechanics' advantages and disadvantages are probed. If any of those fools, who say that stupid comment I mentioned in the beginning, came to 3D fighting community sites then they will be kindly explained how TTT2 is different from T6 or any other series. People here just fail to realize they are just more used to 2D fighters and they are more informed about them.
Why would people actually buy Tekken and why is it popular since 1994 if there is no significant changes or difference? People who play 3D fighters aren't stupid. They are 3D fighter fans but they still know better to avoid stupid games like T4 and VF3 and etc. The argument "TTT2 is bad because its just T6", just has to go.
On the other hand, I do agree some what with change needed in Tekken series. I believe Harada should closely look at the success of SF4 compared to relatively less success of SF3. SF4 is much simpler than SF3 but still tight in my opinion. This was selling point i think. I believe Tekken should be a little simpler like ditching the "bound" juggle system and having different height for each launcher
#35
good stuff, pretty much my impression of the game after playing T6
So, Mortal Kombat still holds the title for highest rated review?
It should be obvious that you should ignore fighting game reviews from these paid bigger websites (And reviews in general tho) but fighting games require time and extra knowledge. As one said, SF X Tk got a 9, and we all know that game wasn't even worth a 6 on launch.
This game looks sick, Ill get it later

EDGE review 7 out of 10
TTT2 is a great swan song for Tekken in this generation, but it has to change a lot in next-gen for it not to grow stale. The big problem is how do you please fans but ease things for newcomers with the most complex fighting game (together with VF) ever.
On the other hand, I really hope DOA5 succeeds. I played DOA4 so much, it was my first online fighter on a console and was blown away with online fighting. Still I'm going to wait and see, I'm glad I did with TTT2, but if it's well received I'll get it.
Still, it's fun to see the FGC saying that "SFXT is just SF4 with tag mechanic, what a POS", but "TTT2 is just T6 with tag mechanic, amazing!", lol
The problem is they did try to change the series in Tekken 4 ( my favourite in the series) and the fan backlash meant they didnt follow that course. I would love to see some major changes in 7. I love Tekken but its time they pushed things forward a bit.
SFxT is a great game let down by being rushed and poor management decisions.
@jungle71
i thought TTT2 was like the previous tag game mixed in with tekken 6? if this is the case, i think that is where the 'game feels the same' statement comes from.
sf2 to sf4 was a massive overhual with a HUGE gap between both games.
the reason why sf4 did so well was because there hadn't been a sf game in donkey years! sf3 was only ported to a few consoles and never really got into peoples hands, so when old school sf players heard of a new sf game, we all ran to get it. to recreate this with any title would just take a matter of time.
@72
love it or hate it, the game is far from dead, so many people still have the game on their lips, which is always a good thing when keeping a game alive! but i do feel sfxt is the new sf3, but this may change for the better when the new balance patch is done and released.
@75
when it comes to reviews it only helps people who do not know much about the game and reviews can help a casual player to decide if they want to purchase it or not.
for me i tend to check reviews before buying a game i have no clue on like P4A, but when its comes to a sf or marvel title i dont need to check the reviews as i have researched the game by that time enough to know if i want it or not
