I hope it's the next big game, it deserves it.

The mainstream is not going to play an anime fighter the most it will get big with in the hardcore fighting scene

Tekken Tag 2 will be the next breakout game, easily. Harada has done too much good business with all the fan requested characters and free DLC for people not to support. I haven't played Tekken since Tekken 3 and will buy this game on day 1.

@ Yak: The difference between Persona and any other anime fighter is that its RPG had one of the strongest followings in that genre, so actually, it could support itself with those fans alone, and the FGC is an added bonus.

(If that's the case, then I can see both games being fairly big. They both have something that people want. There's the 3D plane-fighter crowd, and the 2D. Each of them have their own charm to them.)

ASW games deserve more support, because their games are good, balanced and varied. I hope that Atlus and ASW suppoort this game in the next months, because I'd like to see more characters, like Yukari (bow), Junpei (sword, non-proficient), Ken (spear), Shinjiro (one-handed axe), Koromaru (we had Ammy in MvC3, so...), Yuka Ayase (P1, whip), Maya Amano (P2, twin handguns) and Yukino Mayuzumi (P1-P2, daggers). Technically, screw the "4" in the title and just add more characters from previous games.

@6 I agree about ASW deserving more support and new characters would certainly be welcomed by me as well. However, remember that this game is canon to the Persona universe, so unfortunately Shinji will not be making an appearance anytime soon :/

Wow Max doing an "Online Warrior" for Persona. I don't think comparing Skullgirls with Persona was very accurate. Both games were dealt with completely different cards

Highly unlikely. No other game has the right combination of factors to be as big as SSF4.

@9

About Shinjiro, huh, well, how to put this without spoiling... Ah screw it: in Persona 3 Portable, he can be saved from dying. Whether or not will that become canon remains to be seen.

@13 Yeah, the female MC's route is NOT canon unfortunately though. I loved Shinji to pieces, but the sad fact is that he's gone. I believe Elizabeth even refers to the P3 MC as "Him" multiple times as well in P4U.

Is it the next biggest fighting game? Hell no lol! It ain't about it passing SFIV level of popularity. Atlus is smart enough to know that ain't about to happen. Look at at SFxTK. Even though it seem everybody and there moms wants to bury that game it still has life. Why because it has the the words Street and Fighter in the title. You take any other game that has that much hate linked to it. That game would already have been dead. Persona to me needs to be trying to reach that MK9 or KOF XIII level of popularity. I don't know if it will. I just feel this game is going to go the Skullgirls rout. It will be hot for a minute then fizzle out.....

The Persona series itself is more popular then the typical fighter game series. Especially Persona 3 and Persona 4 in recent years with the amount of sheer media presence it has from different video games genres to broadway live musicals. In terms of "popularity" they don't have to worry about that since it easily rubs off into this fighter game(Especially with a lengthy canon story mode attached ).

Unlike Skullgirls (Seeing this comparison often gives my dog cancer) which was a New IP downloadable only indie fighter, with limited budget, staff, advertisements, etc with no established fanbase as a safety net unlike Persona which existed for over a decade. Btw It already did much better in tourney Entrants at Summer Jam with 145 entrants while Skullgirls Side tourney At evo barely got 100+. It won't follow the SG route simply because they are complete OPPOSITES in many ways

We can't say how long the Persona fighter will last in NA since that depends on the community for the most part, but its safe to say Persona IS the Next big fighter in Japan since its release back in March with #1 sales and and Popularity (AE is waning over there)and surpassed Gundam.

almost any fighting games that is not Street Fighter 4, adopted a rush down style for fighting

KOF 13, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Skull girl, BlazBlue ... even SFxT, with the exception of UMvC3 , I believe that all have a smaller audience because of that

from the video, P4 does seem a bit leaning on the rush down style, which will make the learning curve for it very high, and will definitely stop it from being as big as SSF4

in SSF4 you can be defensive , or balanced, or offensive, in all other games, you have to be very much offensive (rush down)

i dont know why game makers dont try to make slower fighting games instead of faster, the audience of slower fighting games i think is far bigger

the idea that ppl like to mash button, is just wrong, i prefer characters with short combos that dont need fast hands , characters that depend on how smart i play, my anticipation ... not my finger mashing skills

P4 will not be the next big thing because its built around the wrong assumptions of who is the bigger audience

if they remake samurai showdown, it might have a chance of being the next big thing ... game makers, please maker more slower fighting games

it's funny how everyone gives their opinion when its obvious what is going to happen with this game: it will never become more popular than sf4 or marvel.

If you say that its popular in japan then I agree, but even gundam was popular in japan and that game never made it in the rest of the world.

In the most optimistic view this game will have a tournament at evo and other side tournaments just like blazblue did. Its even possible that chrono phantasma will be better than persona.

I think the game will be moderate in size, larger than KOF but smaller than SF4.

Fans of this game do resort to some pretty deceptive tactics to show how "popular" the game is. They cite that its more popular than SF in Japan but VF is more popular than SF in Japan and that game has a tiny scene outside of Japan.

I don't think this game is going to last long. It's good, but it only has 13 characters and they're all a little slim in terms of move lists. Once the initial hype wears off, this will be mostly forgotten by fighting game fans (Although casual Persona fans will still be trying it out for a while I'm sure).

From a competitive FG player who loves this game, Im going to keep it 100. P4A is here to stay. Will it be as big as capcom games? Hell no. Its an anime fighter so alot of capcom fanboys will already bash the game before even trying it(but act like they have). The game is solid, flashy, and has a easier learning curve than BB so I see why more people will play it also(Me being a serious BB player also).
This game will continue to have a long life span as long as Atlus also continues its support. And @Butterknife, thats what the "mainstream" also said about BB....Let it thrive man. Stay free pplz =)

to me this game trys to feel the same niche as marvel games... and marvel is still a much better and hype game.. it made skull girls looks really really dull, unless you can top marvel in its own niche its not gonna make it, only 1 room for each type of game

i doubt this game will be BIG but it will have a competitive scene, looks a bit hardcore for it to catch fire, game looks sick though love the amine look! i wish the game well but doubt i'll take it too serious, and i doubt online will be packed as comments on the game seem to be pretty low but who knows

I love BB. I like it more than Persona even. But let's face it, it's pretty dead as far as tournaments go. I hope it can make a comeback with the next game, but I doubt it.

should not compare SF4 to persona 4. 2 totally different games.
If it was anything like SF4 everyone would have been sayin it a cheap ripoff. nowaday gamers dont like to put effort into anything once the game isnt cheap. that y people play UMVC3 and not KOF cause people cant reconize good titles
