Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Mortal Kombat 9 at MLG Fall Championship, over $30,000 in prizes up for grabs Major League Gaming just announced the line up for their Fall Championship taking place on November 2 - 3 in Dallas, Texas. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Mortal Kombat 9 will be featured at this event and will both be played on Playstation 3 consoles.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be making it's Pro Circuit debut in Dallas and Mortal Kombat will be returning to the MLG stage.

The prize pools are quite large this time around with $15,000 available in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and $16,7000 in Mortal Kombat 9. Competitors have the chance to win roughly $31,700 at the MLG Fall Championship this year.

Just as King of Fighters 13 is no longer being played at MLG events, it would appear that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is taking the place of Soul Calibur 5 in Dallas later this year.

I like the fact that they have some pretty big winnings but I could never be bothered to watch MLG ever again. The amount of time between matches was ridiculous.

I don't get why they keep trying to have a Fighting Game League. It will not work long term, and they have no understanding of the FGC. Do they really think that throwing money at the flavor of the month Fighter will be sustainable?

@ #3&4 C'mon, give them a chance. Aren't you guys tired of all this backwater low budget b.s.? I for one think this is nothing but good news. Hopefully the more exposure, the more money up for grabs. Playing a fighting game at the highest level takes just as much skill as playing Starcraft if not more. We need to start seeing some of this big money, and we need to start supporting the scene by spectating.

How does this affect me as a casual player and spectator? SBa didn't have megabucks behind it, and wasn't even the best tournament of the past year, and it still had more hype than every MLG event combined. This is partly due to MLG chasing after second-tier fighting games and partly due to the complete inability of the 'esports' scene to build hype, which is something the FGC does effortlessly.

While I'd like to see top players be able to make a living off their skill, they won't stop coming out because they can't. Most if not all of them play for the love of the game--otherwise somebody like Wong would still be playing MK9. From a stream monster perspective, any attempt to infuse money into the scene, whether from one of the clueless esports organizations or through a trainwreck like Cross Assault, has always ended badly.

That said, I think TTT2 is a legit game and I hope they can do something good with it. But for mass viewer hype, at least in the United States, you must have the Capcom games.

So anything that is not a Capcom fighter is 2nd-Tier really?

Someone fill me in- why don't they run Capcom games?

ANyways, for all you saying they're just infusing money... um... I think if you ask ANY top player, infusing big money into a tourney automatically makes it more hype. Why do you think FGC tourneys add a pot bonus??

If they would run capcom games with that type of $$$, you'd see international players flock to the tourneys i'm sure. And you don't need ebonics and yelling to get hype unless you're a total uneducated retard with no class. So don't hate on this cuz they know how to show the money. Just sayin.

#7 that's pretty stupid, capcom is not the be all and all for fighting games. they may be the most popular at the moment, but ttt2 is exploding popularity-wise, and other games have made significant dents. Also, if you as a spectator dont care about the money involved then why should mlg care about catering to you so that you can have a good viewing experience. They deserve the higher end of the deal, they are playing. mlg was new to fgc before but i hear they have guys working with them now and even ipl is making big moves. mlg can be the best of both world. the post on here about devestation pretty much sums up whats going on right now, people needs companies to invest and sponsor and it wont happen unless the fgc grows up. it has to happen some time so we as fans and players should try to make this as smooth a transition as possible instead of all these stream monster nerds hating on everything unfamiliar to them.

Esports will be the death of the FGC if it is embraced. There is no hype, it's filled with ads and downtime, and there is no hype. They even schedule events on the same dates of other major tournaments. Sure there is large money on the line, but how long will that last before Fighters are dropped in favor for a new Fad?

And why would players trust these Leagues if the games they play are always in danger of being removed? You just know if they are able to get Capcom fighters (which I'm sure they are trying to) then say goodbye to any other fighting game.

You actually made some really good points there. That is something to think about.

The lack of hype is pretty much because of the lack of support imo. If more people showed up there would be more hype. I've seen starcraft and Halo matches with PLENTY hype, one quick youtube search would show you that much.

When it comes to being dropped, I don't have a full proof solution to that besides more people showing up and supporting the games. Lets be real, SC2 isnt a fab anymore at this point, its here to stay. part of that is due to the genre not being oversaturated, but its also because the fans are dedicated. If we got evo-like attendance for each event (which i know is possible, look at starcraft as an example) then the game wont be dropped until the sequel.

About the whole scheduling thing, idk, they screwed that up. I read somewhere they would try not to do that in the future, but i guess we'll find out.

@6 People have already given MLG their chance, they mentioned about how they were going to make the MLG fighting game events look more like what we are used to. And what did they do last MLG event? Axe the winners and losers brackets in the top 4 and force the 2 players in losers to play against those in winners in a FT6 with a 3 game handicap. How the heck is that going to win over people in the FGC?

I do feel bad for the other people in eSports, because the clowns at MLG really have poisoned everyone's opinion of eSports. Contrast the behavior of MLG to that of IPL which has an event happening on the same day as NEC but has already declared that they are not going to host DOA5 out of respect for NEC.
