Updated: This story has been updated with the top 8 results along with notes and the exhibitions that took place, along with stream archives of the latter festivities.
I hope there is a full archive that can be downloaded for this event when it's done.
Internet is really crappy at the moment.
Sanford? Playing Marvel 3?
Salt/crying/rant incoming.
@ Saki: Spooky always saves the archives on his Twitch page and uploads them to youtube in a playlist.
1. AGE Chris G (Morrigan/Vergil/Doctor Doom)
2. UVG Noel Brown (Wolverine/Frank West/Wesker, Wolverine/Wesker/Akuma)
3. BG JRosa (Morrigan/Doctor Doom/Strider Hiryu)
4. TA Moons (Nova/Taskmaster/Amaterasu)
5. MH RayRay (Ryu/Magneto/Sentinel)
5. Flux (Zero/Dante/Vergil)
7. BT Marlinpie (Viper/Doctor Doom/Amaterasu)
7. BT Dieminion (Viewtiful Joe/Doctor Strange/Morrigan)
No one can stop Chris G. Probably the best right now. The only team I can think of that stands a chance atm is combofiend and Yipes' new team [nova, spencer, strange]. Once combofiend masters that team we'll see. If champ has any new tech probably one of the few players that stands a chance at this point. Justin needs to stop testing awkward teams and start to play the game seriously again; spiderman and felicia is not gonna work. Btw marlinpie did pretty poorly today don't know why. Noel brown is solid but he stayed the same, time to learn new characters bud.
@10 i dont think Jwong ever used Spiderman and Felicia seriously and even still we havent seen any of that for months at any Majors. also a while ago Yipes beat Chris G with one of his other main teams. the Dante/Vergil/Magneto one.
another thing is that the new team Yipes and Combo use is Nemo's team but with the way you phrased your sentence you probably know that already and just decided to say it differently. nothing wrong with that ofcourse.
@8
re: why Marlinpie did poorly- Guilty Gear came out and he stopped caring about Marvel.
Props to ChrisG for still running the east coast like a boss!
Honestly I think people are going to have to learn some teams specifically to deal with Morrigan/Doom instead of trying to get lucky picking her up early in matches against ChrisG.
@10 and @11 So marlin pie is back to being another nobody.
on topic: chris g's morridoom team is a problem. now that he swaped akuma for vergil, i dont know if anyone can beat him
Excellent event as always. Lots of fun and hype. Great commentary, great matches.
morrigan/vergil/doom is probably one of the best teams in the game, but if you get the first hit you can probably kill 2 character because Vergil has no option for the incoming mix up. Once we start seeing Zero and Viper players on the level of Chris G we will see how good Vergil holds up.
Noel showed how fast you can dismantle the team if you get a hit on Morrigan (but of course he started messing up and dropping stuff in the clutch).
Noel didn't drop stuffs, maybe one or two combo that's about it. ChirsG dropped way more combo. Noel got bodied. He had a chance, he ran away against Doom and lost.
i'm going to main Morrigan, Vergil, Dr. Doom, f it.
I would rather watch paint dry than watch morridoom. I think everyone can agree with that. Buuuuut, in the tournament scene winning takes precedence over fun.
Awesome tournament. Nina and Persia commentary was f*cking horrible though.
What I don't seem to understand is how people will always manage to find a way to complain or talk crap about a player. They get the results they get for a reason. Although I will agree players like Noel may not be the most electrifying to watch, people need to understand that man and others have the game down to a science. There may just be LITTLE THINGS we just don't see ourselves that make them so good. Until one can go to an event like Curleh and not only beat Noel but beat the other players, no one is in any position to criticize. As of now the only person with that luxury is Chris G or anyone that beats Noel consistently.
And another thing I wanted to address @23 was the "winning takes precedence over fun" comment. I assume that you don't play Morridoom yourself, so my question is how do you know it isn't fun playing with that team?
If you weren't speaking of fun from the pov of the player (which I assume you weren't) and were actually talking from the spectator's shoes, then I'll ask SHOULD the player make the enjoyment of the spectator the priority? Because I'd vehemently answer no to that question.
I hated on chris g early on in his umvc3 career but i grew up and realized he was a good player at evo. To bItch and complain about him now is so irrelevant at this point. He makes that team awesome no one else can replicate what he does. His first to 15 match with champ was high level play at it's finest. I think champ can hang with him no probs depends on the day. I like chris g because i realize he never sits still always improving with his combos, team synergy always exploring combinations with characters where others don't instead they bash there heads against brick walls and wonder why they lost?
for me umvc3=adapt or die
@28 I actually tried out Morri/Doom for a couple months. It got boring fast doing the same motions over and over again, spamming HM assist, etc. I'd rather rushdown.
