KN|Reo who recently took first place in the Mortal Kombat 9 tournament held at the Major League Gaming Fall Championship, did a short interview with Complex.Which character would you say is the toughest to beat in a competition and why?
Kabal, bar none. No other character comes close. Kabal is a character that has no known weakness. He has an advantage in every match-up. There is not one single losing match-up Kabal has to face which is why he is in a league of his own and the toughest character to beat.
What would you say are the differences between training at home and playing at the tournament? What's your comfort level like?
At home I feel I get to enjoy the game more and play around with my favorites. In tournament, everything changes. I feel like I'm forced to do what it takes to win. Ultimately, I love playing the game as much as I can. In a tournament setting, for me to play as much as I would like, I need to win so I can play more matches. This is another reason why I use the best character in the game.
Check out the full interview over on Complex's website.
Ironic how the top tier character in this game was also top tier in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
people still play this game? every tournament is like 20 people enter. lol
The last time i've played a mortal kombat game was when some guy just keep randomly poping up at the bottom of the screen yelling "whoopsiee" anyone know who that guy was?
#7 I completely disagree, early MK was shallow before the massive amounts of poking, AA's, and different strategies based on chip appeared. It has as much tech as people like to call it, if not more then Street Fighter games.
Kabal is just in a league of his own.
#14
Actually he's right. They have about the same amount of tech. Also, if you played top players in either of those games, you'd get stomped equally as bad. Get rid of that elitist attitude.
@5
That's cause you're a tier whore lol
@8
Dan Forden, I wanna say.
@6 MLG host 80 man tournaments. so yeah people still play this game. the MLG tournies are capped at 70-80 entrants meaning they wont host more than that, meaning they could have more players. btw "people still play this game?" got old after EVO'11. come up with something original.
@14 both games are quite different, however they have their own fair share of tech and new tech is still being discovered is both games.
@8 He says "Toasty"
@14 just because they play different doesn't mean there isn't tech. "how you get beaten up" doesn't mean there isn't tech, it just means the games function differently. or do you think MvC2 and Third Strike have no tech because you get beat up differently in those than you do in SSF4AE?
MK is the definition of style over substance.
Have considered getting MK9 but watching game play, it looks like suffers from the same thing it had in MK and MK2 back in the 90s, lack of impact from strikes compared to SF.
Unblockables, character specific combos, stance specific combos, option selects, 1st hit meter bonus, breakers, using x-ray so the opponent can't break, Kitana's unbreakable combos, frame traps, normal dash cancels, dash blocking, restand combos, unavoidable resets, chip damage infinites...
Dude thats without even trying.
To the poster of this artcle: SFILP...We (Empire Arcadia) would respectfully ask that you credit us in this article...Reo is infact (EMP) and mentions it in this very interview...So when we read "KN Reo" here on Event Hubbs, it shouldve also stated (EMP) We would appreciate the proper representation for one of our players...Thank you in advance.
