Katsuhiro Harada is still answering various fan questions on his Twitter. Today, he was asked about Tekken X Street Fighter's character roster.
Will Q be in the Tekken X Street Fighter roster? - CarloMcCall
I can say "No". Also, all the CAPCOM staff has said "no."
Leave us a comment with your thoughts on Q and Tekken X Street Fighter in the comment section below.
LOL!
This poor character, one of the most interesting fighters in existence, doomed to disappear into obscurity orz
Guess that just adds to his mysterious charm ; w;
[implying any of the SF3 characters get much love, it's a general rule of thumb they can only be in 1 game every 5yrs :x and ONLY 1 character]
Im surprised that Q got deconfirmed especially since he has received a lot of votes. I think he would fit wel into TXSF, although not as well as other 3rd Strike characters like Dudley, or Alex.
Harada and Capcom: No Q for U!!!
Q: I'll Q U!!!
Q from a gameplay design standpoint is terrible. Even if you were to buff him so he can actually special cancel more than one normal, he really is just Balrog with crappier normals and a command grab.
It's a sad day today and every other coming day knowing that Q can't chase after kids and women anymore.
This game is going to be ass. I can feel it. Same characters as always. No one new. Why do I still play fighters?
Well as long as Karin is in this game. Although it's a bit harder with the copyright issues belonging to the manga author.
Anyone who says "people who think Q is cool obviously never played 3rd Strike" obviously never played third strike, because Q is unequivocally awesome in that game.
However, charge characters might not work in a Tekken engine very well, so maybe that's the reason they're deconfirming him? I know that Paul in Tekken has a joke "flashkick" move that has to be charged up, but otherwise I don't think charge characters have ever been featured in Tekken games.
Or we can hope that he's in the background like in Ken's stage in SF2
@21 it's not like the inputs can't be changed. I mean do you actually think the Tekken characters play the same in SFxT as they do in Tekken? It's a world of difference, which is why most Tekken players don't give a flying **** about SFxT.
Tbh if this game doesn't have a drastically different roster than SFxT I don't think I'll be buying it. I love namco and TTT2, but the more obscure SF chars are the ones who'd fit well in Tekken.
I actually think Q's fighting style, not necessarily the charging of moves, would fit very well in TXS. He has several dashing punches akin to the ewgf. He has several launching moves. He has one or two moves that slam you into the ground, i.e. potential bounds. He has THE CLAW! HE also has a drop kick and several unorthodox moves that could be useful. And above all he's mysterious; that can easily be used to explain giving him new moves.
The only real problem I see with q is that some of his supers involve huge explosions...
And, yeah Q may have been a character that lacked options in 3S, but that says nothing about the future. Tiers change across games. TxS likely won't be an exception.
@27 Gameplay - Bad. Slow, crap normals, bad specials and generally about as mobile as a 16 wheeler on a country road
Character - None. Capcom never revisited him after, because why should they? It's only been in the past couple of years the characters seen any form of popularity
I have 3rd Strike and I think Q and TWELVE are two of the worst characters Capcom has ever created, both aesthetically and gameplay-wise. Put Karin, Alex, and Hugo in the game and I'm happy.
i dont find Q interesting (he has no b/g?), orr appealing...~
good riddance!!! waste of slot in my eyes~
I can understand not putting Q into TxSF (though a Q vs Jack battle would have been awesome) his fighting style I don't think would transfer terribly well into a 3D environment or tekken's systems.
That said, there are a handful of characters that I think would transfer over amazingly well, and oddly the shotos I think are NOT among the group I think will transfer cleanly without a lot of adjustments, but it wont stop Namco/Capcom from shoving every shoto clone in the game that will fit.
Who I think would transfer cleanly from SF into Tekken:
Makoto (except her fukiage would need a change for how it functions but it could be a high attack crush move. She'd probably end up being similar to Baek overall.)
Ibuki (she'll transfer over amazingly well with her target combos, high low mixups, and command jump/dash. Though I dunno how they'll work her Kunai into the mix.)
Dudley (Another character with great high low mixups, target combos, juggles, command dash, and evasive moves all great for tekken style gameplay.)
Gen (other than his Oga wall dive move everything else will transfer pretty awesomely.)
Cody (bad spray on knockdown will be an incredibly interesting move to see in tekken.)
Guy (Probably end up similar to Lars but with some interesting Kunimitsu style slides and flips.)
Fei Long (as long as they do a lot to show the differences between him and Law)
Chun Li (other than her spinning bird kick)
Rolento (other than his knife throw, I imagine that Namco will incorporate his grenade drop that was originally a taunt into an actual move similar to Alisa's head bomb.)
Eagle (Other than perhaps his lariat)
Karin (though I doubt we will see her)
R Mika
Who cares if Q in or not I dont long as evil ryu, devil jin, devil kazuya, shin akuma, oni, and jinpachi make it in
It's a sad day....
.....
...sad for YOOOOOOUUUUUUU!!!!! ;D
I also say no.
...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! =(
Glad Q is not gonna be in he should stay in his little domain
LOL@Snipeclips! xD
Who cares about QUEEEEEEEEEEE~~~
Q acts alone - he does not co-operate with anyone. This is the REAL reason why he is not in the game.
Though this logic does not explain a real bear being in the game.
Iirc harada has stated that he is a HUGE fan of karin,so she has a good chance of being in.although it doesnt 100% confirm anything its still possible.
Also i would love to see Maki and Eagle make a comeback.with the recent trend of FF reps being included in modern capcom/crossover games i personally think either her or sodom should be next.Eagle is just a cool character in general;)
None of you were gonna buy Tekken x SF for the same reason you didn't buy TTT2. It's a 3D fighter, and much more difficult than SF, so why even worry about who will make it in? Most of you won't buy it anyways.
For people that are crying about Q not being on TXSF, hoping for Karin R.Mika or whoever, and stress about same fighters that came from SFXT.
Heres a message "GROW UP" this is reality, dreams are never meant to come true. A child's dream and a desprate fan's dream are always meant to die.
Besides TXSF has made no progress, the only prototypes they have was a unpolish & unfinish Ryu wearing Paul's uniform data which is white.
Why don't you wait until 2013 when TXSF is in development.
I'm actually glad that I wont be seeing Q in TxSF for certain. He always struck me as a character who was just...THERE...with no real purpose. At least this means that a more deserving character will be taking his would be spot on the roster. Sorry Q, but I can do without you.
THIS WAS OBVIOUS!!! LOL! At people here overreacting at the news, as if any of you actually use Q. This is a continuation of that retarded syndrome of asking for random characters that nobody will use.
How popular is elena in SFxT? How popular is Jun in ttt2?
@53: Elena - Not so much from what I've seen. Jun - pretty popular
Finally some more info on TxSF. I feel that this was a good choice. Q might be popular, but I already know that he's gonna turn into the character that everyone wanted but hardly ever use. Would've been a waste of a slot. With that being said, I hope Karin gets in. She's perfect for a Tekken game with her numerous branching special moves.
Far as I'm concerned, every character deserves a second shot, whether I play 'em or not. Disregarding tiers, I personally considered Blanka and Dee Jay to be among the weakest character designs in the whole franchise. Blanka made no sense, and Dee Jay seemed so generic, so I barely ever played them. However, I respect their history, and I'm still really glad they brought them back for the SF4 series. Heck, I'm not an R. Mika fan either, but if she got in TxSF, that'd be cool too.
The only character I have actual issues with is Ingrid, but I guess she'd make about as much sense as "Pandora's Box" at this point.
I can understand why since his playstyle in sf3s was a bit weird but it still makes me a bit sad. I mean they could have given him Hugo treatment and changed his playstyle up a bit but give him his similar "feel."
Its only depressing for me as Q drew me in alot in sf3s because of how weird and mysterious he was and how neat his taunt was for his playstyle.
@51
1. Not everyone even has Kunimitsu yet
2. She has high execution and doesn't do over the top damage like some much easier chars do...of course people aren't exploring her yet. Once people get bored of being lame with Lars, the rest of the Mishimas and Forest/Marshall, maybe she'll get her time. God knows there are about 20-30 characters that just sit there while some handful are high tier in every Tekken game, she shouldn't have to take the brunt of the crap
3. Considering the above, she seems to be getting decent use and fans of TTT2 mostly agree she is one of the most deserving returnees based on her new move set alone.
#51 At least, I've seen a few Kunimitsu's online. She is a very powerful character on this game. Even I am using her as part of my second team, and I never requested this character.
#53 Jun is actually pretty popular. Asuka is her clone and even she is use regularly. And there are many waiting for Unknown (including me).
#43
Kuma is a bear trained by Heihachi n Heihachis bodyguard/pet..
People definitely overeacting 2 this Q thing n people will probably not get it like TTT2 jus because its harder than SF, people need 2 go 2 the store n get them a copy of TTT2 instead of going 4 an easier DoA or buying SFxT dlc..every no name character doesnt need 2 b in alccrossover titles, y waste time on developing a Q wen they could come up wit an Oni or Alex or Charlie or a SF1 character, I dont believe in wasting slots b4 a game comes out, THEY R THE DEVELOPERS, THEY CAN MAKE SLOTS, dont hav a fit over no name characters please n I would like 2 see ansatsuken style fighters...its jus not SF witout 3 or more ansatsuken fighters
#64
Or do it like T6 n up n giv items that hav Q-like animations wen activated, that would b kool
Hes hardly a classic character and i really dont like the character design that much.
'Totally agree that TxSF needs to dip into the well of obscure characters to have any interest!
Let's see some frickin' brand new characters! Why not? There are more bosses and thugs from Final Fight, Gene, Mega Man, Powerstone chars, The Master from Strider. Our only chance for Tessa. Screw SF-only choices...Zzzz...zzz.
I'd rather it would be more like Namco X Capcom.
(LOL, you guys will hate this idea)
Just a random question, first off I have always found Tekken mechanics BS, but how would SF charge characters be implemented into the engine??
I find it so funny that some people ACTUALLY want Q to be in the next SF-related game and for those want him back are the ones that are in the minority group of people. In fact, many SF3 characters are weird, not memorable and even SF1 characters are better overall. To this day, the original 12 SF2 characters remains the best SF cast of all time and it is very difficult to replace them. Alpha cast was also great too and SF4 cast wasn't too bad either.
The SF3 characters that appeared on SSF4 were actually great choices and for me, Elena is not really an interesting character in a way. Capcom must've been onto something when they made some of the unusual characters for SF3 and seriously, what were they thinking when they made the final boss of SF3 wearing nothing but a thong? Seth, on the other hand, is a different story because in SF4 storyline, Dictator planned this all along.
So many people were demanding for Kunimitsu to be in TTT2 and many people were demanding for Elena to be in SFxT. Those characters were made for the certain game and suddenly, you don't see those characters at online very often. Harada even called out those people who wanted Kunimitsu back to make their point and play her in TTT2.
Fun fact: Dee Jay, Fei Long, Cammy and T Hawk were originally designed to be in SF3 but due to time-constraints and other fighting games that were releasing at the time, such as MK2, Capcom decided to release SSF2 and added those 4 characters into the game. Those 4 characters would've made SF3 cast much better than it is right now.
The only interesting SF3 characters were already in recent games anyways.
@Super_Honda I disagree in some ways. I feel like every iteration of SF has had its solid designs and it's weak designs both artistically and gameplay wise.
SF2 series - Blanka is a design that didn't really mesh with the rest of the cast but was unique. Cammy was an obvious precursor to the more anime inspired designs of Alpha/Zero (especially her portrait picture on the select screen looks VERY anime style.) Deejay felt un-inspired but they did a pretty good job fleshing him out in SF4. Akuma was a pretty terrible design in terms of being lazy when the other 4 bosses were so much more original and different than the rest of the cast (Vega/Bison/Balrog/Sagat) while Akuma was just a 3rd shoto headswap with a unique super and an air fireball. They've since fleshed him out a bit but he is still a very generic design compared to Dictator.
SFAlpha - Juni, Juli, and Charlie were all lazy lazy lazy designs. Charlie was ok artistically but not giving him any real unique stuff or twists on guiles moves that went deeper than frame data / hitboxes is pretty lame. Birdy is a cool but forgettable design from a gameplay perspective. Sakura was yet another twist on the Shoto. Dan was a fun joke character but that is all he was, a fun poke at SNK.
SF3 - Twelve and Necro were interesting designs that felt like they were in the wrong game artistically. They both would have been great fits in Darkstalkers though. Oro and Q worked only because of the rest of the cast being somewhat odd already.
SF4 obviously Hakan created a unique gameplay system that would have felt more at home in KOF than in SF. Same with his art style.
@Eternal: "Akuma was a pretty terrible design in terms of being lazy when the other 4 bosses were so much more original and different than the rest of the cast (Vega/Bison/Balrog/Sagat)"
Yeah, digitizing that magazine photo of Mike Tyson to make "Mike Bison" was wildly different and original.
That's cool - at least we might still have Captain Sawada.
Kappa
Q is beast in 3s, people that think different are a bunch of newbies
@ irrenmann
Boxer is a unique character from the word go and not just a palette swap....
@76
It's fine if you don't agree with some of the things I've said, everyone has their own opinions. But, Akuma was made simply because of the Sheng Long myth. Remember EGM's April Fools joke about 'facing' Sheng Long? To face him, it's pretty much impossible and 1 example would be: play as Ryu and try to run down the clock 10 times against Dictator WITHOUT getting hit or hitting him. If you look at the design of Sheng Long, he looks like the mixture of Akuma and Gouken. Suddenly, all the hype was created in the West and Akuma and Gouken were created. It's all because of the Western gamers' confusion over Ryu's winning quote.
Since then, Akuma became 1 of the best characters in SF history and Capcom should be fortunate to design him. Another thing, Sheng Long was originally meant to be made as a playable character on SF: The movie game but, he didn't make the final cut. People had to wait for Sheng Long/Gouken until SF4 and he was finally made as a character. I also wouldn't say Akuma is a terible design because he's a likeable character and he was created to be a very powerful secret boss for SSF2T (a bit like Sheng Long in a way). In fact, Akuma and Gouken are both important to the history of SF.
@50 People hardly used Q because he was difficult to play. In a game like 3S, its design just made other characters difficult to play, especially when you go againts Chun Li or yun. But Q in the right hands, is a beast. He requires mad skill to use. Not as easy as Ken or Chun Li. Don't get it twisted.
IF Q was brought back, there is no reason why he could'nt be made viable. I always find it funny how nay sayers will put off a character based off of their viability in the last game when each game is programmed differently, usually resulting in a brand new playstyle (Look at Hugo 3S and SxT, big difference in playstyle).
Just confirming that Q has secretly been a Killer Instinct character this entire time!
I do hope that the cast will differ from SFxT ... I miss you Q
good. stupid character. GOOD characters plz Harada =) crossing fingers for Evil Ryu, Oni, Devil Jin. Armor King, & Baek
at the end of the day only capcom can say what characters make it into the game from their side of the cast. so Q probably was consider for tk x sf but capcom could of turned them down so they can save him for sf5. and judging by the lame way capcom does things(by teasing alex and r mika in sf x tk only to not exclude them), i say capcom will not aloud namco to have characters that hasnt been in a current gen sf game.
super honda, you know your stuff.
i salute you ;)
For the people who missed it, Harada doesn't want Q either.
here is the line up to avoid wasting character slots some characters will have transformations like kazuya had in tt2 kazuya=devil kazuya,
jin=devil jin, ryu=evil ryu, akuma=shin akuma, with oni as a seperate character only and ancient orge= true orge
now for the rest of the line there will be a feilong and marshal law bout and I just hope they add forest law just to add insult to injury
All complaining aside, and speaking casually, I think Q could have been cool in a Tekken game engine setting.
My curiosity about TxSF (if it happens) is how projectiles would be handled, if at all.
@72
You cannot see many Kunimitsu users in Tekken Tag 2 because she has not been released for everyone yet. Actually, from all the preorder characters, she was hard to get her in Europe, since she came as a Gamestop preorder bonus. However, she is a great character and not a clone anymore, so there may be more users. Harada also complained the so many requests for Jun, and now you can see too many Juns in the game.
Harada was just releasing built up anger or something tbh, TT2 couldn't not have Kuni or Jun, it's a celebration style game and considering both those characters had the most work done to them compared to pretty much all returning characters shows they were always in picture since TT2 was even planned..he just wanted to put them fans on a guilt trip cause they never shut up. But I don't blame either of them..Namco have a problem with women over 25 and Harada got stressed from the demands and now wants it to be well worth it.
Q is a different thing again, cause it's a crossover game and tbh i'd rather we had the icons fighting it out again..tho SF side needs more than SF2 people.
