It seems I'll be buying the game only for the fighting then. Good thing, I'll be ignoring the customization DLC.
And here I thought a few months back, that the regular customization level we were used to, would be in the initial game. I'm really annoyed with modern gaming sometimes.
it's still cheap, even with the character pack.
i have never been able to "really" learn more than one character in VF5, and i didn't know all the match up then.
Thus the game + 1 character DLC seems like very cheap for me ! maybe two DLC if i ever find the time to play more
$15?!? I didn't know it was gonna be an arcade/psn release. Maybe that will make people actually play it. Shame I have no idea to play this game, but I just might try it out.
@10, This game is well worth it compare to Capcom Fighting games. And it Definitely has Spectator mode.
I really like VFs but I rather have a Disc-base game w/box and instruction. I really don't like DLC games so...Are we seeing any light on that?
@10 its for the complete game minus the customisation DLC stuff of course.
Yeah, this will defintely be day 1. I was unsure before as i was worried the price would be like 30 but this has defintely pleased me.
VF was one of the earliest fighting games i loved as a kid. It seems like a watered down fighter due to its relatively easy combos plus minimal buttons, but its far from that! It can be played on any level. I hope this does well
And don't mistake "Tutorial Mode" for "Training Mode" or "Trial Mode" for that matter. It's not just combos or a freestyle training mode. It actually walks you through the basics of the game and how the system works. If it's anything like VF4 Evo its a training mode leagues ahead of anything offered recently.
@13, do you know how to read? what are you talking about tutorial mode. I really don't care if there is or is not a tutorial. What I'm asking is.. I want a retail version of the game with the ACTUALLY box/instruction and the DVD/bluray, NOT a file you just download.
Nobody should really complain about the DLC in this case, since even with the DLC it would only be $45 which is still much cheaper than "regular" priced games + their own DLC.
And the DLC is strictly cosmetic and it is a TON of options unlike some games....
This is definitely worth the price.
After hearing this price, I went out and bought a #20 PSN card in anticipation for this game.
It was already a game I wanted to get anways, but now there's NO excuse.
My boy Akira is BACK!

I emailed SEGA about this a couple weeks ago and this was their response:
"VF5: FS is a standalone, digital download only, release. It is not an update to VF5.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Best Regards,
SEGA Customer Support"
Holy $hit that is f@cking CHEAP!!!! $15?!!?
I don't like to buy costume DLC's but for just $5 on top of the original being only $15, I'll totally buy it to support the game.
Imagine 50 cents a game at the arcade, man even for $20 you'll get your money's worth so fast.
@17 You can go buy a mook and import art books for VF5FS =) Damn for the price of only $20 buying the extra guides and art books probably will end up only costing the same as a $60 game
Took so many years but glad to see SEGA doing something amazing again =)
Oh ok on the 6th read through it makes sense! Cant wait til the 5th june aka vf day
Oh man. I don't recall the last time I even touched Virtua Fighter (sometime around the fourth installment many years ago), and I was not even aware that Sega finally decided to release this version of VF5. But at a mere 15 bucks for download (and my recently developed angst and disillusionment with this year's full-priced fighting games so far), I'll give this one a shot.
@20. It's not about reselling the game. I collect some of these games and VF is one of my favorite fighter series. I would really like a physical copy on my shelf :)
@23, damn sega. lol. Is it true that some countries(i.e. japan0 get an actually retail release not dlc? please correct me if i'm wrong.
For those who don't know, Eventhubs has a Virtua Fighter thread open on the forums. Go check it out!!
epic price is epic. Please Sega, PC release. This game with texture mods and AA would be GDLK.
Oh wow! Malda was banned. I wish we could read the past comments and see what he was banned for.
I'm ready.
I hope this game gets a lot of love from the FGC. VF5 was extremely awesome but I felt that it died a little too quick unfortunately. But considering how much praise Final Showdown has been getting while making the rounds at various majors, I'm optimistic!
@38
Heh, who cares WHY he was banned? I'm just glad there's one less troll polluting the comments section. :P
.....Anyone else notice that this is basically the AE verison of VF5?
A bit of VF5 history:
There's been at least 4 revisions of the Arcade verison with the Arcade of Final Showdown being almost 2 years old by the time of this game's release.
The PS3 version of VF5 was short changed for it's release lacking online which then Sega asked for 10 dollars, for now they're asking for 15 dollars for this version of a nearly 2 year old game which unlike most updated versions of games only comes with 2 new characters(one of which is returning from previous VF games)..sounds very familiar doesn't it?
@42 You're so wrong it's not even funny. VF5:FS, when compared to VF5 is incredibly different. They revamped the entire fighting engine. Added new moves to the entire cast. Changed the animations of existing moves for the entire cast. Changed the properties of existing moves for the entire cast. Added many, many new stages, as well as the 2 new characters. As well as stacking on probably thousands of customizeable items.
Compared to AE... new characters and properties for moves. End.
To everyone that thinks Taka-Arashi is a new character, he really isn't new. He appeared in Virtua Fighter 3, but was absent in 4, Evolution, Final Tuned, and 5 because the developers said that programming Taka with the new mechanics used in Virtua Fighter 4 were deemed as too difficult.
Johoseph
"Anyone else notice that this is >basically< the AE verison of VF5?" Basically is defined as: In the most essential respects; fundamentally.
Which VF5:FS is an updated version of an older game is it not? so it's fundamentally the same thing, thus the definition of "Basically" no matter how much it adds.
Also you missed the part where SSF4 added the new stages and new moves in the form of Ultras (though in AE a few characters do have some new moves such as Hakan's Oil from his Slide, Seth loss of Yoga Sniper).
Hey look, you picked out one word in your entire post to try to invalidate what I said. I can do that too, Cast in Point:
Case in point, later in your post you say:
"they're asking for 15 dollars for this version of a nearly 2 year old game which unlike most updated versions of games >>only<< comes with 2 new characters"
And in my post I explained how it doesn't "only" come with new characters. Anyway is that you're problem with charging $15(FIFTEEN) DOLLARS for an entire game? Update to an existing game or NOT that's a steal. You're entire concept of what a "new" game is, is based entirely on the number of characters added for some reason. When the things I mentioned earlier more closely resemble actual game updates.
One thing I forgot to tell you guys: You can actually make characters wear the Mega-Drive/Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast consoles on your back, as seen in the trailer. SO PHRESH!!!
@50 No this isnt a new game its the lastest upgrade to VF5 and its obvious because its called virtua fighter 5 final showdown. Either way this game is going to be amazing and i personally think that VF is the best 3D fighting game on the market.
Those of you thinking the DLC is a good deal well i guess so but remember its content that was already featured in the arcade game that was taken out to be sold as DLC. So its not new content just content that well be charged for if we want to take full advantage of customization.
Either way still an amazing deal 15 dollars is way to cheap for this game and all the work that goes into making it. VF games are probably the most balanced and offer the more depth than any other fighting game. My only problem is im the type of person that would rather have the disc version instead of a digital download.
The best way to compare SF4 to VF5 as far as evolving the game and rebalances go:
N/A = VF5/VF5 ver.A(AC only)
SF4(CS) = VF5 ver.B(AC/PS3)
N/A = VF5 ver.C(AC/360)
SSF4(CS) = VF5R(AC only)
SSF4AE = VF5R ver.A(AC only)
SSF4AE 2012 = VF5R ver. B(AC only)
N/A = VF5FS(AC only)
N/A = VF5FS ver.A (AC/PSN/XBLA)
Comparing the amount of characters between SF4 and VF5 is not really worth it. The amount of moves and balance tweaks one character in VF requires would be about the same as 4 SF characters.
I guess most people don't realise that this is an update, hence the low price. Although I have to say that it is less than Capcom's updated title price.
Yes, it is an update because it says so in the title else why not call it VF6?
I wonder how many people will still be playing this game in a month's time?
@42 does it freaking matter? Did you buy the original VF5? Sega is working hard to revive the series and while it's unlikely people will flock to buy a revision of a nearly 5 year old game hopefully it'll pave the way for VF6 to be successful.
@55, Yeah technically it is an update. But most people aren't taking into account that it is STAND ALONE. You don't need the original. So regardless of the fact that this is an INSANELY updated version of VF5 Normal, it is still an entire game they are selling, for $15. IE It doesn't require any extra stuff to play, just that $15.
15 bucks and 10xs the content of lackluster Skullgirls which was the same price and lacked features. I honestly thought this was going to be 30 bucks, 15!? that is friggin awesome. Wait Sega no stop being good witht his and Sonic 4 ep 2 be like skullgirls and have 6 characters and make the others DLC and have only three modes to play and have broken online. :)
