Top 10 most profitable arcade fighting games in Japan for April 2012 Today, Fubarduck and Marden went down to Akihabara and picked up a copy of Arcadia Magazine, which has a list of the April 2012's top 10 most profitable arcade fighting games in Japan.

Haunts over at iPlayerWinner made a quick post listing these off along with giving a little information on Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena.

Hit the jump to see the full top 10.

Persona 4: Arena came in first and to no surprise. Pretty much every arcade I've been to has atleast one cab -- many times two to four -- and someone is playing it. More than that, it seems to attract every type of person as you'll see everyone from your typical young male on the sticks to females in their early to mid-twenties who are just as fierce.

Outside of the franchise being very popular, I think it's played so much due to its accessibility. It's pretty easy to pick up and start busting out combos though there is a lot going on with the system mechanics that should satisfy more hardcore fighting game fans as well.

1. Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena

2. Gundam vs Gundam Extreme Vs Full Boost

3. Tekken Unlimited Tag Tournament 2

4. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown

5. Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition Ver. 2012

Check out the full list over on iPlayWinner.

3rd strike is pretty close to AE2012, that's unexpected/impressive.

I had to look up that Gundam game... While there's technically fighting in it, it's really not the type of game I was expecting to see on this list. It's about as close to a fighting game as Call of Duty.

i watched few videos of Persona 4, doesn't look that impressive and from the tutorial videos looks like a button masher!

weird!

Tell me you didn't stop at the 1-button easy combo there lol.

Still, can't wait for P4 to drop to console.

Persona 4 is just flavor of the month. Once people see it is just like BB the kings will take over again and Gundam and Tekken will be back on top.
If anything though I'm surprised Tekken wasn't first, even Gundam is over it.

I'm loving the Persona fighting game. It looks fun and the characters and the game music are pretty boss! The Japanese from what I can tell from the videos are loving this game to its fullest, it's no surprise it's top place material.

Can't believe we have to wait till August just for console owners to own/play it "sighs".

#1 its very impressive but not unexpected. Japan has always loved 3s, even when the west shunned it. thats why its never been dropped at SBO. its very popular over there

Good to see Persona topping the chart. It's the kind of game we need right now. Something easy for newcomers to get a handle but throw in some basic fighting 101 to make it hard to master.

Look at COD. Why is it popular? Well guns and war etc, but also because it's so easy and simple to play.

Hope Persona actually picks up some steam and get an EVO placement next year!

I wonder why namco doesn't want to print money with Gundam vs Gundam in the US? We got the dynasty warriors games, why not the better one?

Gundam x Gundam has been more profitable than Tekken for quite awhile.
