Namco Bandai released a financial statement to their investors, which disclosed the sales numbers for Soul Calibur 5, in the European and Japan regions — with the U.S. being notably absent. The game sold 690,000 copies in the former territories.good for them however i wish the game was pushed back to finish most of the characters story modes. lol at capcom..they really expected that game to sell well after releasing it so close to the original?
Pretty much expected that. Not that it's good. It sucks it didn't sell so well but what else could Namco have done to make it sell more? It had some great marketing campaigns. T'is also not a good sign for fighting games in general. Mortal Kombat Komplete edition, SFxT, BB:CSE and this in particular. Oddly KOF XIII sold more a lot more than UMvC3 and but doesn't have anywhere near the amount of attention.
I dread to think how Persona is going to appeal the fighting game scene. I see TTT2 selling a lot however
Those sales aren't that good, sadly. Especially when you consider that umvc3 is just an upgrade. I think it's ludicrous that umvc3 has sold this much when you consider how many people were complaining. Looks like they all bought it, anyway.
I would have been impressed if scv outsold vanilla marvel but beating out umvc3 is nothing to brag about.
UMVC3 is an expansion and should be treated as such so it's obviously not going to sell as well as the original since not everyone will want to "upgrade".
UMVC3 does have the unique problem of everyone loving to watch it but not everyone wants to actually play it. I am one of those...I rarely play the game but I absolutely love UMVC3 tournaments.
@7 yeah thats true kinda but I treat umvc3 as a stand alone game since it isnt dlc so 600k isnt great for something like mvc and ssf4 sold 1 million err alittle over 1 million but...it did come out a year later....lol oh yeah I know alot of people who dont play umvc3 but likes to watch the randomness
the report about umvc3 selling 600k is like 3-4 months old. im pretty sure it hit a million a long time ago.
Good for Namco/Bandai. They made a pretty amazing game considering what little development time they had. And they clearly didn't waste any of that development time to create full characters that they would sell 6 months after the game is released the way Ca$hcom did.
That's why I gotta laugh at idiots who try to compare SC5's DLC costume pieces with SFxT's 12 disc-locked characters that are 100% ready but won't be sold until fall.
@14
"It's sad knowing SFxT might have outsold SC5 because SC5 looked like they made it with love. SFxT is just...ugh."
First of all I don't like SFxT at all...but "SC5 looked like they made it with love."? Seriously?!
Soul Calibur 5 was rushed.
Aside from the great character customization the game is lacking content.
The roster is quite disappointing (especially the amount of mimic characters and clones)
...three mimic characters, two palette swaps?!? Really?!?
#16 You forgot the part about one of the best trainingmodes there is right now and onlinecode, one of the best lobbysystems there is, and sh-tload of free content (27 stages?), a testing of proper balance that actually worked hella good before releasing it and so on maybe.
Fighting games don't sell because they're good. These days, they sell mainly because they have a large fanbase. Also, the majority of players don't play more than one game title so sales in one title doesn't affect the others a lot.
