A really nice preview of the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2 game was put together by Rip at Level Up Your Game. Solo vs Tag
The new big feature is without a doubt the solo vs tag option. As seen in the screen below, you make this choice at the character select screen. When going solo you do increased damage, have more life, and have your ‘red’ life regenerate in real time. Personally, I think this is the strategy I’m going to go with since I’m generally a turtle player by nature. More interesting about this matchup is that when playing solo vs a tag team, you get rage mode twice! First at half life, second at about 10% remaining. Seems pretty powerful. Negatives for this seem to be wall carry and barrier break combos.
Solo vs Solo
No regenerating life for either player. Very much like Tekken 6. Lifebars seem to be more like they are in the Tag mode than the Solo vs Tag mode.
Tip from Flying Wonkey.
Winning a 1v2 gives you so many bragging rights, can't wait.
Lovely I cannot wait for this. With the exclusion of good customs Tekken seems to be the only game doing it to do things right...

Some people need to realise that 'Tekken Tag' is supposed to be a 2v2 fighting game, not 1v1. The name says it all. Harada had to add a solo option to satisfy them and I don't think Harada wanted to add a 1v1 feature since the game mainly focuses on 2v2. I don't mind the 1v1 option but I hope it doesn't overshadow the main feature of the game, which is 2v2. It'll become Tekken 6.5.
I have a feeling that at a high level the game will fall back to just being a 1v1 Tekken game given all the bonuses 1v2 provides to the person playing a single character. Players are going to be less inclined to want to deal with mastering two characters ON TOP of basically being at a disadvantage for playing a tag team while the other person essentially gets to do half the work. :/

Fair enough but I'm just hoping that it doesn't ruin the main aspect of the game. A bit risky really.
Damn, solo actually sounds like it might be kinda better which sucks really given that it's meant to be Tekken TAG... it's not as hard to tag out as SFxT but more damage in a game where the you win the round by knocking out one character is kind of a big deal, and red life recovering in real time sounds pretty nasty as well... I think including a 1 vs 1 option for consoles would have been a good idea but I just hope 1 vs 2 is well balanced, and if either side has an advantage it should definitely be the 2...
For all we know he may actually make a filter or it may just be a mode all its own. That way for everyone wanting that 2v2, there will be a mode strictly for it (main mode). As for 1v1, that has existed since TTT1 on console release.. You are not forced to play it. Now until further notice... I will not generalize if 1v2 will be a something those can or cannot avoid.
@8: You are stupid for thinking that since the feature is not old....it was in Tekken Tag 1 so yes doubting he wanted the feature in is a long stretch within itself.
@14: The person gets a decision at the beginning of the match as to how they wish to set up the match style. Pair mode also is available so up to four people can play. If on person chooses one person the other person has a choice in the matter they desire to play.
@17: People just need something to complain about...I doubt have of these people have ever actually played Tekken to begin with or the first tag or they would have known the feature was already in it.
1 v 2: I really hope this mechanic favors the player using two characters. I don't want this mechanic to be too balanced, because the entire tag feature is definitely worth the experience, and should always be the preferred route. I agree that the player on the 1 side needs something in order to make this a viable aspect of the new game; but it sounds as if they are building the 1 side into a boss simulator. Considering Unknown from the original TTT had all of these enhancements.. minus the double rage. I trust Namco to hit it out of the park, but I worry because I love.

I got TTT1 on PS2 and I know the 1v1 feature has already been done before. What I'm saying is that this feature shouldn't take over the 2v2 mode in the tournaments. For casual players, it's ok, just a nice bonus. But if got Tekken Hybrid, you'll notice that the 1 on 1 and 1 on 1 vs modes are missing from TTT1. Strange, really.
@20: I was pissed when they took 1vs1 out of the game. It removed a nice feature and style of the game. Like Harada stated why play with two character when you really are only good with one? It allowed me to play with characters who were unavailable in the other versions such as Jun or Kunimitsu and it also allowed you to play old school Tekken since Tag was a what if project anyway for the otiginal Playstation that just happened to work. I doubt it will take over since the players have a decision as to how they wish to play before the match begins. Meaning if one person wishes to play with one person they can; whilst, the other is not obligated too.
@21: Apologies for that poor grammar...just woke up.
@21
Lol yeah, it was annoying, but since TTT2 has that feature, it should be okay for people who wanted it. I don't mind 1v1. Yeah, it should be that way in the tournaments. Can't wait for the home console release.
@16
I am aware of that seeing as how this is all done on an arcade machine so your modes are limited upon selection.. I was just referring that perhaps on console.. How they present the option could be different.. You can throw in extra modes and whatnot. But I thank you for your input nonetheless <3
