Hit the jump to check out the full blog post.

Hot on the heels of its March 6 release date, SFxT is about to kick off regular updates - meant to keep the experience fresh all through the year - with a blend of free and paid DLC. There's a whole bunch o' content coming, so let's break it all down...

Up first on April 3 are Swap Costumes that take the "alternate costume" DLC idea one step further - instead of offering basic alts, these outfits cross the fashion line by dressing SF characters as Tekken characters and vice versa. See Raven dress as Guy, Cammy as King and uh, Kuma as R. Mika...(?)

Swap Costumes are available for $1.00 (80 Microsoft Points) each, or if you wanna dive in for the whole assortment you can pick up the Street Fighter or Tekken collection packs for $13.00 (1,040 MSP) each - buying one pack saves $6.00, grabbing both saves $12.00. April 3 also brings three free color packs, each containing four new additions to the palette for added customization options. Topping off the April 3 additions are three new quick combos, making for a total of five pre-programmed attack patterns. While spamming these pre-set combos is tempting, don't forget each use saps some of your Cross Gauge!

Shortly after those items arrive, look for a free tournament support title update that will add a new and faster way to select your gems from the versus screen via a dial system. We'll actually run a live stream this Monday at 4pm PT to show off this update, so head to our Twitch TV page for details. The tournament update will also include improvements to the online sound issues discussed in Ayano-san's earlier blog.

Looking just a few more weeks beyond the tournament support addition, the next big wave is a massive selection of free content delivered as a title update. This includes three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool. This sizable infusion of new gems exponentially increases the customization options for every player, so we should see some interesting new loadouts once this DLC arrives. To that point, we're also tossing in three more gem slots per character in which you can save your preferred loadouts. Finally, this update comes complete with a free replay analyzer, which enables you to dissect each fighters' vital statistics.

The biggest additions come soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year - the 12 characters debuting on Vita will come to consoles as a $20.00 (1600 MSP) bundle. I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I'm happy to say Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars and Lei will not break the bank.

One additional note - the dev team is also already working on solutions to the infinite combos currently making the rounds on YouTube, and will have them patched up once these other updates are out the door.

I know this was a massive wall of text, so for further clarity, here's everything we discussed above. This all begins on April 3 with Swap Costumes, color packs and quick combos, and then rolls out over the next several weeks:

FREE

Nine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gems
Replay analyzer
Tournament support for gem selection
Three new quick combo pre-sets
Three additional gem loadout slots
Three new color packs with four colors each

PAID
Swap Costumes - $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1,040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packs
DLC characters - $20.00 (1,600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters

Please dont buy any "DLC" until capcom fixes the problem with the game and restores the 360 to the state it was advertised as. As a Community we must show capcom ( and others ) that we will not stand for releasing broke and half finish games with the "DLC" on the disk.

Even if I am interested in the game's DLCs, the game is not letting me buy them since the DLCs are now REGION-LOCKED. Capcom never make REGION-LOCKED DLCs on previous games so why start now???

And really, still no ability to save offline replay matches is stupid.

I'm surprised... The DLC prices seem very reasonable, considering that they're from crapcom.

I am still amazed at the audacity of Capcom that they had the time to complete all of this DLC so they can turn a profit yet the netcode, controls and sound are a broken mess.
This crap should of been free as a complete game and everyone knows it, even Capcom, but what they also know is that they can rob their costumers blind.

Hahaha! I already have everything except for the replay analyser. I really should stop posting on these as I don't need to buy the DLC.
I'd like the infinites kept in though for fun, or remove the ones discovered already and add in "new" infinite combos.
Like that Megaman brain-dead infinite >.<

Wait, why is there only ONE $20 package for ALL the DLC characters? So not only are they on the disc and playable, but they won't even let you just buy who you want? Even though that was the excuse they gave for putting all the data on the disc in the first place?

Seriously?

you are an idiot. What's the difference between Sf4 and SSf4 release? only cause they were keeping the characters out of the disk you feel that it is a different thing? They are just trying to make ppl who don't want new characters be able to play vs ppl who buy then.... actually it was not wat SF4 did, so it is an improvement.... doesnt hurt to try to use your brain you know...

Well Capcom I picked a great last game to buy from you. Enjoy the $70 I paid for this incomplete mess of a game. I read some Unity comments, people arent happy, at all. Some guy did the math, and basically the Paid Disc Locked content on this game = all the other DLC including the AE upgrade and Alternate Costumes. Unbelievable Capcom. I honestly dont know how long your practices are gonna keep you a float. Ive said this before, but if this was any other fighter it would have been doomed day one. Before you start charging customers again, fix the game, and attempt to restore good faith with your customer base. I seriously can not believe that they would even mention prices, let alone neglect to address the issues that plague this games cut and paste online experience. I feel terrible for employees that worked hard on this game to try and make it something special.

Nope, those characters are NOT going to be sold separately and if they were they're going to be priced for 4.99. You'll end up spending 20 dollars either way if there is at least 4 characters you want. I guarantee Capcom will make sure they can manipulate you to buy the entire character dlc or better yet unlock-able characters.

Here is a list of the DLC gems that are coming (all are on the disc, but not yet unlocked): http://www.pastehtml.com/view/brk1sqo...

Also note that, in the future, the gem limit will be raised from 3 slots to 5 slots across the board, making it the standard. It isn't an optional feature or anything like that.

If you need proof of the above list as well as the claim of 3 gems to 5, here you are:

Apologies if this isn't allowed, but the content is available on the disc. There is no insider information or leak involved here--with the right tools, anyone can access them at any time.

I know this will probably go largely ignored since everyone likes to bitch and moan, but do all you complainers honestly believe that DLC is normally made at the end of the standard games production?

Plans for DLC are brought to the table at the same time as pitch for the rest of the game, worked on at the same time, and in the majority of cases, just held back until the developer sees fit to release the DLC to reignite interest in the game.

Pretty much all DLC is finished at the same time as the main game, just in this case, Capcom put the files on the disc. I find it very odd that you would all be fine about it if it were waiting on Capcom's servers instead, still completely finished.

Games outside of iOS, PSN and XBLA are developed at a huge cost, it only makes sense that the companies who bring you these games you love will add security of further revenue so they can bring you further titles later.

If the gem slots get increased from 3 to 5, the gem mechanics will surely be broken.

#51
DunnDeal said on March 16, 2012 at 11:55 a.m.

Just give us the characters now. Only an idiot would spend $40 on the Vita version to get 12 characters that Will come out a month later them 20$ for the console version. DOA5 comes out around the same time too.

#52
Tecky said on March 16, 2012 at 11:55 a.m.

@43 Mcross_

Just because there's a way to make 5 gem slots does not mean that they are planning to expand them from 3-5 as an update. In the trailer that first revealed gems, there were 5 gem slots and they eventually brought it down to 3. Even though that might be for whatever reason, all it shows is that they can freely change gem slots from 3 to 5.

In fact, no information on the disc is solid "proof" that it will be DLC. Since you claim you don't have insider information, don't say this as a fact as it can misguide people's judgment.

#53
TwoCoins said on March 16, 2012 at 11:55 a.m.

Mcross_ said on March 16, 2012 at 11:57 a.m.

The gem slots are definitely going to be increased in time. I'm not sure when, but Capcom has built it into the game to become the standard for the game. A lot of the DLC gems are Assist ones that take up multiple gem spaces, so you can tell it's been their plan for some time.

Yes we know that but it's a different story when all of the content is on a disk that we paid for. We spent 60 bucks for it so it's ours now so we deserve everything that's on it.

That's like me telling you "Well, you bought the bed, but you can't sleep on this half of the bed for 3 months until you blah blah blah blah"

#62

@Tecky (#53): Trust me. It's happening. We're not allowed to go into specifics on this site and I will respect that because I respect the operators of this website. I am right about this is all I can say. The game has five slots for gems because Capcom will "flip a switch" in the future to make five the standard over three. You don't have to believe me, but it's true. I've seen it myself. Also, if you just look at the DLC gems, it's more than obvious that this is their intent.

What company would be stupid enough to have a game mechanic in a fighting game where if you pay the right price you get better stuff!? Man I am just loving how this turned out. Still people will go that we HAVE to PAY 33 dollars... no we don't, I and for that matter no one uses all the characters in the game so nobody will be buying them all cause of that reason, even then some are ugly. Still hoping that the characters DLC might get released as individual pairs (Cody and Guy in one DLC and Bryan Fury and Jack X in another).

You cant buy characters separately because they are paired together as partners and if they did that they would charge you more per character so its cheaper to just bundle them. Its funny how people cried about the DLC and now that its reasonable, now its how broken the netcode is and the sound fazing in and out. Thats what the real argument should have been from the start not the DLC, people just like to hear themselves cry.

We know what is going on and have read all the same stuff you have, at least give us some decency and acknowledge some of our complaints. You guys have a good point, capcom is a business and they can with their IP do with as it pleased, but do not insult the rest of the fanbase by saying we have no reason for our complaints or that we should be happy capcom is allowing us to graciously play their game. Capcom needs us more than we need them. Obviously this is a touchy issue and if we do not quit protesting, things will never change. So if you want to hear us stop whining, tell capcom not us.

Ok...Capcom is really fu_kin up...BIG TIME... If you do the math, 13 dollars each for the swap alternates equaling 26 dollars for both tekken character and street fighter characters. Then the character which cost 20 dollars for but on the vita it is free and we have to wait until is comes out on the vita first then we can get it...but with a fu_ked up cost!! Instead of releasing them on consoles first, then the vita..hmm crapcom is really backwards. That is a total of 46 FU_KIN DOLLARS...On top of the game we purchased...106 dollars with capcom's greed fee.... SMFH. This is truly unacceptable and is basically a big "f u" to its loyal fans. Like get real, if anybody feels this is a good deal then yu have been brainwashed for real. Oh this is also a big "f u" to the people who paid for the special edition version. All the gems we paid for will be free of charge....Suck MY.....

if you bought arcade edition on disc and dropped 40 bucks (15 as dlc) for it when all you got was 4 characters and still had to buy costume packs. and you are complaining about

FREE
Nine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gems
Replay analyzer
Tournament support for gem selection
Three new quick combo pre-sets
Three additional gem loadout slots
Three new color packs with four colors each
PAID
Swap Costumes – $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packs
DLC characters – $20.00 (1600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters

you are crazy, a troll, or just an all round negative person

if you choose not to get new costumes you are spending 20 bucks on 12 characters (instead of $15 or $40 for 4) and everything else is free, even if you did buy costumes there's 50 characters on the game (xbox version) at one dollar a costume thats 50 bucks but you can buy them individually and if you have to have them all its 26 bucks for all 50 costumes.

so do the math 26 + 20 =46

AE was 39.99 plus tax which in new orleans where I'm from would come up to 43.59 plus an extra 30 bucks for the super and ultra complete packs

thats 73.59 for everything ae had, if you bought the disc, or 45 dollars if you downloaded AE instead.

in closing that's one dollar more than downloaded AE with all the fixings. but you are getting far more content for free, and 8 more characters than AE had added.

if you wait for the vita version for the 12 character you will be about 6-8 months behind the rest of the world, not to mention they will come out on console shortly there after so you waited for nothing.

sure you can complain that this stuff was on disc but assuming it wasn't this would be a heck of a deal. if you bought AE you shouldn't even open your mouth. really.

@71

The contents on the disk ARE mine. Some guy went to court for the same situation. He unlocked everything on the disk for one of his games and was taken to court for it. He won the case because It was HIS disk that he PAID for and he could do whatever he wanted with it.

One thing I gotta know is why is Ca$hcom holding back all the "FREE DLC" if the damn stuff is free? What the hell is the point of locking free content on the disk?

I find the $20 for all chars a wonderful price.

Not that I have the game or anything-I still haven't bought anything new since SSFIV (regular non AE).

Most people know DLC is developed in tandem with the main game, but the fact that they took the time to put it into the game, lock it down, and then print the disc, all without fixing the audio issue, and Xbox 360 local co-op means they knew that people would be okay with an unfinished product. Everyone here should put Capcom Game Tester on your resumes.

This company is so greedy for money. Capcom you most know in order to progress as a company, you have to lose money before you make money.

Capcom must love people like you who cant tell the differnece between Locked Content and Downloadable content. Yes I bought AE, because it was true DLC. BTW last time I checked this wasnt North Korea, everyone has a right to complain and voice their opion. Get off you high horse, the remaing people who think this is a steal are dwindling. Capcom's bind faith fans will not support them in this harsh economy.

@ #88:

That's not how it works. Content is controlled by the maker. Go try to screen a DVD you purchased on a projector at, say... a parking lot. Charge people a penny for a viewing. Basically a low-concept drive-in theater sort of deal. You purchased the DVD and all the contents, right?

Nope.

The movie is owned by the studio with all the rights thereof. On the game side, you do have the DVD/Blu-ray, but the content isn't yours per se. Your job is to enjoy as the developer/publisher sees fit. This is why modding on consoles is a big nono, and modding on PC is mostly fine (since mod tools are often included). You purchased the game to play it how they intended. Their content.

It's actually been like this since day-1, but the on disc DLC era put it on the forefront.

$10 for the characters and I would have been sold.

Sorry, Capcom. I'll be sitting this one out.

I'm really glad no one outside other Eventhubs commenters listen to Eventhubs commenters. The amount of idiocy is astounding. Capcom is not some big greedy corporation who is only out for your money. Sorry, but life just doesn't work that way. 9/11 wasn't an inside job, there aren't aliens on Earth, and ghosts don't exist. If this is more shocking to you as Santa Clause not being real, then you need some psychiatric evaluation.

To all the dumbasses whining, you have two options:

1. All the DLC characters are not on the disc. That way, when the DLC characters DO come out, if you do not purchase them, you will not be able to play with anyone that DOES have them (AKA: You will be left behind and a sizable portion of the playerbase will be deserted)

2. All the DLC characters are on the disc. That way, when the DLC characters DO come out, if you do not purchase them, you will STILL be able to play with anyone that DOES have them. No one is left behind, no one is getting scammed.

Here's the point: PUTTING DLC ON A DISC (Not a disk you dumbasses, a "disk" is a floppy disk) ALLOWS THOSE THAT DO NOT PURCHASE THE DLC THE ABILITY TO STILL BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH THOSE THAT DO HAVE IT INSTEAD OF BEING LEFT IN THE DUST.

So its:
60 USD for the standard version of the game
+ 20 USD for all the DLC characters
= 80 USD for the full game without any of the extra

What are the chances they will release another disk for 60 USD by the end of the year that include the above bundle when the game price drops to the regular 40 USD

I just dont like DLC, I would rather they sold a Premium version for 80 USD at day one, than pay 60 for the game + 20 for DLC

@ 95:

I like the characters coming later (three of which are my mains from past games). I like the gems coming up, some interesting ways to boost my speed with Cammy. I rather not wait for colors, seems arbitrary - and all the black and white players are dull online.

I'm happy with the delivery method, unlike SF4 and MvC3 - I can get the costumes I want and to hell with the rest. I'm happy with $20 for 12 characters which beats every other fighting game character DLC this generation (Flames Iori alone is a quarter of the 12 characters' price - think about that).

It's a good deal marred only the on-disc controversy (which I can give a damn about because I'm an adult), and the unnecessary locking of free colors. Other than that I'm happy with how the content is being released. It's more content than the SSF4 and UMvC3 jump and there was DLC on top of those.

I can't say i agree with this. Downloadable content is another project you work on after the games release. You decide to determine whether or not you will make DLC based on fan response of the game. You dont lock content ESPECIALLY BALANCED AND COMPLETED content on the disc. This belongs to the people who bought.

If you seriously pay for this and you don't feel wrong about it, you are trying an idiot with no dignity no honor. This all amounts to: I got scammed and I rewarded these people for it ^ ^

Oh sure the games "DLC" looks tempting for what its worth and the Capcom fanboys runining this generation of gaming will buy it but people with real sense will actually think this over. Its still amounting to about $200 worth of content on the disc and Capcom employees like Christian Svennson are pointing the finger at the customer reactions.

Guys don't give in so easily. I mean Bioware + EA got caught redhanded trying to milk fans and talking them into it like it was a good idea. They did this like auto adding itself to our attention. These companies don't care about whats good for us. They don't have our interests and affordability in mind.

For anyone that doubts what im saying and resisting is all useless, look at the PC gamers (I sound like BlackBusterCritic however I do NOT officially play PC). Just look at them, whenever companies like Ubisoft or Capcom impose DRM, THOSE people get seriously mad and pressure the companies to lift it. They get a good experience out of it by making sure they aren't bullied or intimidated in the process.

It sounds like because of this whole drama over Mass Effect 3 and this game from Capcom that the fanboy wars and console wars need to die out and people should start taking a cue from the most underestimated platform of all: the PC.

This is still disc locked content, none of this should be charged toward the people who own the finished characters, the combo presets, the color packs. Hell, in Tekken you get ALL of this, over 40 characters, and extra colors and all that crap without Namco nickel and diming people.

This hurt Tekken fans alot because this is capcom acting like they Namco with their distribution, and fans will feel somewhat betrayed interpreting this action as Namco taking advantage of every last cent even though its Ono and Scamcom doing this.

@82

But those 4 characters for SSF4:AE weren't already on the SSF4 disc they were made after the release of SSF4 and not locked out on the disc we already paid money for.

The reason we are complaining is because we are paying for content that's already on the disc i never complained when they announced AE DLC for console i was more than happy to buy the DLC because we were paying for extra content that was made after the game was released.
