Ryan "Fubarduck" Harvey jumped on Twitter and posted some translations from Kusoru who recently won the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at Final Round XV in Atlanta, Georgia.
Being in a foreign country was scary and I don't think I'll do it again, but the team aspect with the other FRB guys was a blast.
If I travel abroad again, I know that everyone will look at me with murderous intent. All I want is to have fun playing the game.
My favorite player was Mihe because I could tell he has fun playing and doesn't take it to seriously. But I guess we won't become pros with that mentality.
I was also told something like "thanks for giving a wake up call to the USA and making us better" but I definitely won't ever be going back, so I hope other Japanese players will be able to do that from now on.
Fubarduck also linked an article that discusses Kusoru's name and why he plays Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Tip submitted by an anonymous reader.
He might think Rocket Racoon won't work as well anymore I guess, after all, people will figure a way to beat him, when theres 10000$ in the line again.
Ahh, thats a shame. Though I didn't watch the UMVC3 Final Round tourney, it was quite impressive for him to beat the best Marvel players. Being in another country can be scary. No Evo 2K12 for him then.
Log Trapped and left. :(
I hope this inspires more of the "pros" to experiment and more players overall to just...play and adapt better. Call it a gimmick or whatever, but he out thought and outplayed everyone he came against, firstly, and won because of it.
Random American: MONEY MATCH NOW!
Kusoru: PLEASE DON'T HURT ME
Random American: MONEY MATCH NOW!
Daigo/Tokido/Gamerbee: okay (proceeds to body him fray)
*walks off with more money
or
loses
American: HAHAHA FRAYYY
Daigo/Tokido/Gamerbee: okay
*walks away
Kusoru, I think you need a word with your peers about how this works
Don't know much about the competition but top man, nice to see someone who plays out of love performing well. Some of the displays of "sportmanship" at these tournaments is terrible. Behaviour in competitive gaming online can be pretty poor sometimes too, I think people lose sight of the fact that it is just entertainment.
Log Trapped and run, no second chance for revenge unless there is evo Japan. lol
boo hoo scared... this guys kidding right.
but it was nice to see some variety in a team
If he doesn't enjoy playing with Americans than he shouldn't have to just to give them a runback. All the best to him.
all hail kusoru!
@26,
na, F. champ wanted to play first 10 MM against him all day on Sunday. he just didn't want to play MM. he played against J wong for fun.
Ask any random top player for a friendly set and you'll see the response. Normally, they won't play you for a friendly set unless money is involve and that's the ill mindset of these elite players.
According to FC Jago, "it ain't about the playing no more it is about the PAPER."
FGC needs to change and stop this hostility like behavior towards foreigners, especially the Japanese.
Just want to point out that his favourite match was against Mihe, a relatively unknown player, who was the only one who not only enjoyed his trolling but joined in as well. He never mentions his wins against top players like Justin Wong, Combofiend, PRBalrog and Yipes which most US players would have bragged about. He is really playing for the fun of it and finds no enjoyment in playing against people who want to see him fall.
Playing something like that in a different country for the first time could be a bit scary no matter who you are. If you don't know their language/understand their customs and behaviors, etc, you wouldn't really know what to think.
Especially in a hostile environment like this where people want you to lose.
It's too bad, but I wouldn't blame the guy.
What?!?!!? It's like losing a chicks info after an amazing one night stand. We wont get to see him anymore even though we completely enjoyed him here! No homo. >.<
@36
It's more like the chick didn't find it amazing at all and never wants to see you again. Lol!
Honestly I understand where he is coming from. People here in America tend to forget that it is just a game. People really act like douches in MMs as well. Bystanders are always yelling and honking instead of respecting fellow players and just having fun chilling with a group of people they don't know for the common purpose of gaming. Over here we really need to tone alot of that arrogance down and just joke around, get hype, and just be laid back.
The problem is he went to ATL, I would be terrified also and never go back if I went to ATL. Don't let ATL represent america, we aren't all like that.
props to him winning. if he doesn't come back..no big deal. He even beat justin in a first 10..and justin plays raccoon on one of his teams so not like he was completely unprepared.
Yeah being a little Japanese guy in ATL could be rough I would imagine. However I think there are more people for you than against you in the scene.
...wow. Being that I'm an ATL native, and was fortunate enough to go to Final Round this year on Saturday, I don't really see what went wrong. Everyone was really cool, cordial, and the energy there was really nice. Seemed respectable to me. *shrug*
Oh well, anyway, being that JP players do not take the Marvel series serious anyway, I fully understand and respect his decision. Unlike SF, the Marvel games (especially MvC3) makes people really angry...I mean REALLY angry. Why continue playing a game where the people around you completely suck the fun out of it? I definitely respect how he played, and that he respected Mihe because he was having fun with it. It is just a game, after all.
I do believe, however, there is another underlying reason why people have a problem with him winning, and how effectively he won, and it more has to do with how UMvC3 turned out ----- but that's a conversation/debate for another time.
@18 @23 @37
i guess your all just as sensitive and pu$$$y like kusoru. cant handle the hype and smack talk that is accustom in arcades. maybe you all need to leave your conservative sensitive towns
and go to a city and experience a real arcade like in nyc (which is where im from) a grow a set balls and QQ about your feelings getting hurt. stay free!
Tournaments are already a high pressure and intimidating thing, but to go to a MAJOR tourney from another country? I completely understand why he wouldn't want to go back.
It's not really a matter of him not having a good time because he already said that he did, it's just the stress of going to such a huge tournament outweighs it all.
People like Daigo, Tokido, Mago, etc. are used to going to tournaments in different coutnries, so it's not fair to compare their experience with Kusoru since this was his first time ever.
So he plays the game to exploit it, not for winning. Now he won't come back to America because he'd have too much of a target on his back, and it won't be fun when we'd all like to see him at EVO. So, in other words, the dude is a troll who is now scared.
Also, the write up on that blog linked in the article is full of pretentious bullsh!t.
Kusoru is so smart. This must have been the plan.
Step 1- Travel to America
Step 2- Beat them at their own game
Step 3- Take their money back to Japan to help their economy
Step 4- Never go back
America is still the greatest nation on the planet. Good day.
Clockw0rk vs. Kusoru in casuals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jcm-2...
@58 If you actually understood what he said, you'd know that he fully acknowledges (as does most everyone else) that Marvel is a ridiculous competitive game, but he and others enjoy it immensely anyway.
Kusoru played Justin in a non-money FT10 post-tourney against his Iron Fist team and won 10-8.
He doesn't want to be surrounded with people who are essentially just salty and trying to exploit any potential counter-strats to his team for a little money and, more importantly, being the guy who beat that tournament-winnning-Japanese-player-with-Log-Trap due to jingoistic pride, when the reality is that no one in the actual tournament adopted against him well enough to prevent him from winning.
I respect his choice, though I would have loved to see this dude again.
^ greatly worded.
Also just saw that he discovered the DHC glitch, wow, what a guy.
Every match in a tournament is a money match. Good for this guy on being creative and developing a team that works well together. It's not his fault the players here wrote off the raccoon and opted to whore out Wesker.
I'm with #63, but just to "expand" what (s)he said, if I went to a major and bodied everybody, I think that I'd never give a runback. Why? Because I'm a pussy? No! Because I'm a John Doe, and nobody would give me a runback, why would I give one to anybody else?
Much respect to the lil jap, even more than I had before! To me games are fun things to play, they're no serious business. If I'm not mistaken, Kusoru thinks the same way! ^_^
You all really need to get out more. This is a matter of culture.
Keep thinking you are good at a decent fighting game americans. Mvc3 is a sh--ty game that can be played only for the fun of playing a broken garbage. Think otherwise and you will get owned by any japanese guy that understand this. Stay free pro frauds. Props to Kusoru, the guy who exposed mvc3 as the newest sh--ty game.
Way to go U.S.A. you have scared away another creative player
He's scared. Aside from playing in a foreign country, Kusoru had all the advantages in Final Round. No one saw his strategy before and no one knew how to adjust to his play.
Also, he brought so many of his friends who stood right behind him in every match. So don't say things about hostile environments. His friends were just as loud and obnoxious as the American crowd.
Kusoru knows he won't do as well in EVO because everyone will figure him out. He is like an online player who only plays against people he can beat.
@77
lol...the comments:
"no need to be scared", "Sure he's gonna show off some new tech. By the end of the tourney someone will have figured it out by then, and RR will again be a way-too-low health character to be tournament viable again"!
"US has technology Japan can't understand even when they see it. My bet is that no Japanese except maybe Tokido will make it out of their pools, people don't seem to appreciate the gap between US and the rest of the world in MvC3."
Exposed!
If you saw how much Steve H was yelling at him and threatening him during the Guilty Gear grand finals, this seems completely understandable. Too bad we won't see him at evo though :( Hold that L America.
Kusoru came from his homeland and walloped the best american players. If America is that salty then they can all travel to Japan and get steamrolled by Kusoru again. That would be PRICELESS!
@30
I know of people who attended this tournament and they told me that a lot of people were acting like dick towards this guys especially after he beat PR-Rog.
Kusoru did teach us a few lessons. 1 To be open minded and play other teams beside the same ol same ol. And 2 he's a Thief. But what I cant forgive is this "oh I only play for fun", BS. This is a weak excuse, and it's not sporting of him. Its a weak cop out, most ppl who use the "oh I only play for fun" statement say it cause if they lose they can always say, "oh I was only playing for fun", A.K.A, I really don't care.
Then if it's only for fun, why have us pay your plane ticket to Final Round 15, or do all the money matches or even join a tournament. How about you give all the money back, oh wait you was only playing for <fun> right.
Not only does he robs us from a chance to win, he stole the competitive spirit. If he did come back ppl will train to get better, thus giving us who watch better entertainment and hyper shows. This is what playing to win leads to, more competitive fights, stronger rivals, hyper streams.
I don't blame the guy. Japan's a lot safer to live in than America. And with how I'm sure he was treated by some of the American players, he's right. A lot of people take this game way too seriously. All people want to do is win which is why you see Wesker, Wolverine, Magneto, Dante, Vergil, Spencer, and Doom being used almost every single game. I'm sure the American players are unable to comprehend how their top/high tier characters lost mid/low tier characters.
So the rumours were true eh? You guys are mad salty, hes been known forever for being a "troll" player but he had the skills all along. He just doesnt has the same mentality of players over seas. I know, that everybody was wanting to mm so badly that he had to hide in his hotel room after his victory.
Of course that would be scary for him who is not used to that behavior , same thing happen to Daigo that as some point he didnt want to go back to compite(they were mad rude to him, not only with the USA chant incident). Marvel is just a broken game where people want to be the best at it(and that is respectable), but just take a cold shower and enjoy the games like JWong or Clockwork who played sets with him just for fun. The pop off and hype its fun and shizzle but theres no need to go ape sht over a lose.
@85
This guy is completely right. How are you "playing for fun" when there is money involved? don't get me wrong, playing in the tourny for the fun aspect is okay, but you can't get upset at other people who took it seriously when MONEY IS AT STAKE. And besides this guy is a complete troll and he is going to get scared when everybody wants a match with him? If I went to Japan, trolled every match I was in, and won in a major, then went about saying "Oh I'm only playing for fun, never coming back though" what the hell you think is going to happen?
"But I guess we won't become pros. with that mentality."
Lol what? Who cares? Your doing fine with your own.
& also , props to this guy for playing for fun & having a good time , as opposed to showing his a** (like some of these other guys do) over a video game.
"This" I can respect.
Stop being salty brutes. First of all you can't "expose" someone who plays for fun, and like a complete troll at that. He is known for this in every game. I doubt he cares about losing. There just happen to be people out there who find taking a game to that level is fun.
Second of off, Atlanta/FR is probably not the best place for your first out of country experience. Most other japanese players are traveling places other then the US now, we aren't the only scene and we aren't entitled jack ****. People don't need to come here to prove anything. Why don't Americans go over to Japan if they want to beat him up so badly?
Third, he won FRbat and came here with a group of friends. Sounds like a good opportunity right? What other motivation do you guys want to pin on him? We should be way more welcoming to foreigners to promote international play, because they almost always show us something different. Yet people take it way too far in how we isolate them from home players. Some of these players took to it and became staples, but you can't blame someone for not doing the same. Specially when the game is Marvel, a game that not many other places take seriously.
What did he expect, it was an east coast tourney, in Atlanta no less. While the east coast tourney environment was most likely hostile, he probably made more US fans than he realizes.
The US as a whole appreciates the underdog, foreign or not. Look at Poongko or Tokido. Hopefully he makes it out to Evo with the other Japanese nationals, preferably with a new team.
Stay stabby east coast.
we should be happy that we lost to japan, we should happy that they even bothered to come over to play with us, that is so exciting
Filipino champ got turned into Fliipino chump.
Kusoru read him like a book.
All I can say is, fair enough:
If he is not comfortable with repeating the experience he just had, why should he endure it just to keep everyone else happy, he probably will return one day but if he doesn't no big deal.
And the amount of people saying he is a pussy are just salty idiots who cant take a foreigner coming over and beating them at "there game"
I'm aware that UMVC 3 isn't in arcades, but if the Japanese FGC want to, they can be better at any fighting game than any other region because they have a close knit community and the resources to practice together, a resource most other regions don't have, and that is never going to change because arcades aren't coming back.
No offense but he is just a pussy like most of the girly looking japanese.
Japan has no hype aside from their announcers freaking out and they don't talk **** or anything like that because they don't get into the spirit of the game. He didn't have to money match anyone if he is just playing for fun but all he did was further the already true stereotype of the most xenophobic people on this planet.
