Kusoru: I definitely won't ever be going back to USA

Kusoru: I definitely won't ever be going back to USA Ryan "Fubarduck" Harvey jumped on Twitter and posted some translations from Kusoru who recently won the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament at Final Round XV in Atlanta, Georgia.

Being in a foreign country was scary and I don't think I'll do it again, but the team aspect with the other FRB guys was a blast.

If I travel abroad again, I know that everyone will look at me with murderous intent. All I want is to have fun playing the game.

My favorite player was Mihe because I could tell he has fun playing and doesn't take it to seriously. But I guess we won't become pros with that mentality.

I was also told something like "thanks for giving a wake up call to the USA and making us better" but I definitely won't ever be going back, so I hope other Japanese players will be able to do that from now on.

Fubarduck also linked an article that discusses Kusoru's name and why he plays Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Don't know much about the competition but top man, nice to see someone who plays out of love performing well. Some of the displays of "sportmanship" at these tournaments is terrible. Behaviour in competitive gaming online can be pretty poor sometimes too, I think people lose sight of the fact that it is just entertainment.

Ask any random top player for a friendly set and you'll see the response. Normally, they won't play you for a friendly set unless money is involve and that's the ill mindset of these elite players.

According to FC Jago, "it ain't about the playing no more it is about the PAPER."

FGC needs to change and stop this hostility like behavior towards foreigners, especially the Japanese.

Just want to point out that his favourite match was against Mihe, a relatively unknown player, who was the only one who not only enjoyed his trolling but joined in as well. He never mentions his wins against top players like Justin Wong, Combofiend, PRBalrog and Yipes which most US players would have bragged about. He is really playing for the fun of it and finds no enjoyment in playing against people who want to see him fall.

Playing something like that in a different country for the first time could be a bit scary no matter who you are. If you don't know their language/understand their customs and behaviors, etc, you wouldn't really know what to think.

Especially in a hostile environment like this where people want you to lose.

Honestly I understand where he is coming from. People here in America tend to forget that it is just a game. People really act like douches in MMs as well. Bystanders are always yelling and honking instead of respecting fellow players and just having fun chilling with a group of people they don't know for the common purpose of gaming. Over here we really need to tone alot of that arrogance down and just joke around, get hype, and just be laid back.

...wow. Being that I'm an ATL native, and was fortunate enough to go to Final Round this year on Saturday, I don't really see what went wrong. Everyone was really cool, cordial, and the energy there was really nice. Seemed respectable to me. *shrug*

Oh well, anyway, being that JP players do not take the Marvel series serious anyway, I fully understand and respect his decision. Unlike SF, the Marvel games (especially MvC3) makes people really angry...I mean REALLY angry. Why continue playing a game where the people around you completely suck the fun out of it? I definitely respect how he played, and that he respected Mihe because he was having fun with it. It is just a game, after all.

I do believe, however, there is another underlying reason why people have a problem with him winning, and how effectively he won, and it more has to do with how UMvC3 turned out ----- but that's a conversation/debate for another time.

Tournaments are already a high pressure and intimidating thing, but to go to a MAJOR tourney from another country? I completely understand why he wouldn't want to go back.

It's not really a matter of him not having a good time because he already said that he did, it's just the stress of going to such a huge tournament outweighs it all.
People like Daigo, Tokido, Mago, etc. are used to going to tournaments in different coutnries, so it's not fair to compare their experience with Kusoru since this was his first time ever.

@58 If you actually understood what he said, you'd know that he fully acknowledges (as does most everyone else) that Marvel is a ridiculous competitive game, but he and others enjoy it immensely anyway.

Kusoru played Justin in a non-money FT10 post-tourney against his Iron Fist team and won 10-8.

He doesn't want to be surrounded with people who are essentially just salty and trying to exploit any potential counter-strats to his team for a little money and, more importantly, being the guy who beat that tournament-winnning-Japanese-player-with-Log-Trap due to jingoistic pride, when the reality is that no one in the actual tournament adopted against him well enough to prevent him from winning.

He's scared. Aside from playing in a foreign country, Kusoru had all the advantages in Final Round. No one saw his strategy before and no one knew how to adjust to his play.

Also, he brought so many of his friends who stood right behind him in every match. So don't say things about hostile environments. His friends were just as loud and obnoxious as the American crowd.

Kusoru knows he won't do as well in EVO because everyone will figure him out. He is like an online player who only plays against people he can beat.

Kusoru did teach us a few lessons. 1 To be open minded and play other teams beside the same ol same ol. And 2 he's a Thief. But what I cant forgive is this "oh I only play for fun", BS. This is a weak excuse, and it's not sporting of him. Its a weak cop out, most ppl who use the "oh I only play for fun" statement say it cause if they lose they can always say, "oh I was only playing for fun", A.K.A, I really don't care.

Then if it's only for fun, why have us pay your plane ticket to Final Round 15, or do all the money matches or even join a tournament. How about you give all the money back, oh wait you was only playing for <fun> right.

Not only does he robs us from a chance to win, he stole the competitive spirit. If he did come back ppl will train to get better, thus giving us who watch better entertainment and hyper shows. This is what playing to win leads to, more competitive fights, stronger rivals, hyper streams.

I don't blame the guy. Japan's a lot safer to live in than America. And with how I'm sure he was treated by some of the American players, he's right. A lot of people take this game way too seriously. All people want to do is win which is why you see Wesker, Wolverine, Magneto, Dante, Vergil, Spencer, and Doom being used almost every single game. I'm sure the American players are unable to comprehend how their top/high tier characters lost mid/low tier characters.

I know, that everybody was wanting to mm so badly that he had to hide in his hotel room after his victory.
Of course that would be scary for him who is not used to that behavior , same thing happen to Daigo that as some point he didnt want to go back to compite(they were mad rude to him, not only with the USA chant incident). Marvel is just a broken game where people want to be the best at it(and that is respectable), but just take a cold shower and enjoy the games like JWong or Clockwork who played sets with him just for fun. The pop off and hype its fun and shizzle but theres no need to go ape sht over a lose.

And besides this guy is a complete troll and he is going to get scared when everybody wants a match with him? Stop being salty brutes. First of all you can't "expose" someone who plays for fun, and like a complete troll at that. He is known for this in every game. I doubt he cares about losing. There just happen to be people out there who find taking a game to that level is fun.

Second of off, Atlanta/FR is probably not the best place for your first out of country experience. Most other japanese players are traveling places other then the US now, we aren't the only scene and we aren't entitled jack ****. People don't need to come here to prove anything. Why don't Americans go over to Japan if they want to beat him up so badly?

Third, he won FRbat and came here with a group of friends. Sounds like a good opportunity right? What other motivation do you guys want to pin on him? We should be way more welcoming to foreigners to promote international play, because they almost always show us something different. Yet people take it way too far in how we isolate them from home players. Some of these players took to it and became staples, but you can't blame someone for not doing the same. Specially when the game is Marvel, a game that not many other places take seriously.

What did he expect, it was an east coast tourney, in Atlanta no less. While the east coast tourney environment was most likely hostile, he probably made more US fans than he realizes.

The US as a whole appreciates the underdog, foreign or not. Look at Poongko or Tokido. Hopefully he makes it out to Evo with the other Japanese nationals, preferably with a new team.

Stay stabby east coast.

I don't blame him, from what it sounds like a lot of people wouldn't leave him alone about money matches, he just wanted to play the game. I'd be scared too if a bunch of loud huge people were yelling at me for money matches in a foreign country.

All I can say is, fair enough:

If he is not comfortable with repeating the experience he just had, why should he endure it just to keep everyone else happy, he probably will return one day but if he doesn't no big deal.

And the amount of people saying he is a pussy are just salty idiots who cant take a foreigner coming over and beating them at "there game"

I'm aware that UMVC 3 isn't in arcades, but if the Japanese FGC want to, they can be better at any fighting game than any other region because they have a close knit community and the resources to practice together, a resource most other regions don't have, and that is never going to change because arcades aren't coming back.

No offense but he is just a pussy like most of the girly looking japanese.
Japan has no hype aside from their announcers freaking out and they don't talk **** or anything like that because they don't get into the spirit of the game. He didn't have to money match anyone if he is just playing for fun but all he did was further the already true stereotype of the most xenophobic people on this planet.
