Street Fighter X Tekken has a long road ahead of it as far as official support goes, Capcom's Christian Svensson recently explained on the Unity Boards, while also repeating the fact that this will be the only disc only edition of the title.Could you please tell us about DLC characters now in SFxT? Is there going to be another disc version of the game? — K
Svensson: There will never be another disc only edition of Street Fighter X Tekken.
Details on future DLC will come over time. There is a very long term plan for support on the game.
Why don't you make demos for Capcom fighting games? — Sir Hunter
Svensson: There are multiple reasons however the most basic is that demos take time and money away from the main development of the game and in our research, demos of fighting games tend to not provide a return on that investment.
Demos in general, in any genre, are a crap shoot. No demo is usually better than an average demo. They can cost a developer sales if that experience isn't perfect.
Just wondering about sales figures for Resident Evil Mercs 3D and SSF4 3DS - I know they did well enough when they came out, but have they got a boost since the Christmas period? Will there be DLC for these games? — Human_Scum
Svensson: No plans for additional support in terms of DLC or updates on either title. Sorry.
To answer your other question, as one would expect when there's a lot of new hardware shifting into the marketplace, quality titles like those two both benefited during the holidays.
Do I need a memory card to get Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the PS Vita to work? — Gildarts
Mikeeb: No memory card is required to start UMVC3 Vita. The save data is actually saved right onto the game card itself so you won't even need a memory card for that either. Hope this helps!
Well. Lets see the next up date will be 1600 msp with 12 characters and tweaks. Its what ithink since no update disc thing
Confirmed, there will be iterations through DLC like how AE and AEv2012.
Most likely priced at $15 like how AE as DLC was.
This was always confirmed since the day the game was announced...i don't know why people still ask the same stuff over and over. So yeah, there WILL be future disk versions but you will also have the choice to just download the content via DLC, just like AE.
Furthermore i'm thinking Capcom might go the Game of the Year approach for future disk versions
#2 - That'd be great IMO. They should always do that for new iterations, along with character DLC and patches. The "disc based only" model for updates should've died years ago.
#3, I can bet money they will do that. MK did and I'm sure its a quick but for Capcom if they did that too.
#4 True.
#5, God forbid your system crashes and forget your password for live/psn. You'd be SOL and have to re buy/download the content all over again.
I'd much rather prefer Disc...easily transported to friends house, tournaments, ect.
Nothing new has been stated by Sven here. Capcom announced a while ago that any updates would be DLC, and this is now about he third time they've reiterated that the initial SFxT disc release would be the only disc release.
I'm pretty ambivalent on fighting game demos. There's more than enough coverage of the games by both the companies and other players to provide more of the actual experience of whatever game is in question, as opposed to a demo that's down to a fraction of the roster, who probably aren't going to be the characters you favor if you get into the game, just by mere odds.
Though maybe that's more of a veteran fighting game player's perspective, having the experience to tell if they'll like the systems, whereas newer players have a smaller databank to compare to.
Still, the decision has to be made via the time/money required to put out a demo vs. expected return with sales and good impressions. And that's assuming the demo isn't hit with tech issues, which are entirely possible to be separate from the main game depending on how development is handled ala Kingdoms of Amalur.
Any word on whether or not there are already DLC characters on the disk?
@7
Yeah, because Live/PSN don't have anyway of recovering your passwords. *scratches head*
I do agree discs have the benefit of transporting to friend's houses, tournaments, and borrowing, not to mention the whole rental industry. For me, as a Steam PC gamer, I prefer digital distribution all the way.
I am sure they will release some kind of GoTY edition to attract new gamers though, just like most AAA games do.
@11 Separate teams. If one looks back on the track record of Ono's team since SF4, they've been heavily in favor of updating the game, whether by patches, DLC, or disc releases. If they have a set plan to handle DLC and updates, there's a good chance they'll follow through.
Ono & Co. also aren't hampered by an outside company's (Marvel) promotion plans and licenses.
Looks like there's some merit to this post after all: http://www.capcom-unity.com/knuxpyro5...
Keep in mind that was written before the 12 DLC characters were announced.
Okay I'm going to actually do it. Instead of constantly getting mad at capcom i'm just going to no longer support them. I got 5 bucks down on SFxT and I think I'm more content with just forgetting about it. Every fighter I've picked up from Capcom in the recent years I was always left feeling jewed. (No offense to the Jewish people) So, it's time to do something instead of standing infront of capcom with my tail inbetween my legs and a handful of cash. Plus, I got other fighters I need to learn.
#16, smart-man. You're a leader and not a follower.
first of all, i am a die-hard Capcom fan. Street Fighter was the best thing invented since sliced bread. but Capcom doesn't know how to count. after the first Street Fighter, they made SF2. then SF0 (aka Alpha) came before 2. then we waited forever for SF3. waited some more for SF4 but that game is storied before SF3. if we added all the versions of Street Fighter, we would be at SF10+. Namco got it right. Tekken's story progressed from Tekken to Tekken 6. every character aged properly and the moves are more "realistic". having said all this, i'm looking forward to Tekken x Street Fighter for the PS4. Phoenix Smasher rules all. Peace! :)
I hate that excuse given by developers on demo's.
So instead of providing a way for gamers to try a game out before buying, we're left hoping a game is good :|
Even the music industry has moved away from this model by providing samples and even full tracks on places like youtube for people to "try out" the product.
@19
umvc3 was disc only version if you wanted the 12 extra characters, ssf4 was a disc only version if you wanted the 10 extra characters,AE was not a disc only version. so basically what their saying is by their statement "never be another disc only edition" that you dont have to worry about buying another disc to get future dlc. BUT! their not saying that there will be another disc version available in the future that wont be mandatory for upgrading i.e GOTY edition if you will.
@22
Giving some samples of songs to consumers costs next to nothing. Making a standalone demo costs a lot.
"We could spend resources on demos, but that takes away from our plan to make more cheap, insanely profitable DLC that you guys will gobble up anyway. UMADCOMMUNITY?" - Svensson
A long term support plan, doesn't make a "lower average game" any better. Not only most match replays look generic (1,2,3 launch, tag, juggle...) but also the whole gem-DLCs and blinking/flashing visuals are terrible at the moment.
Capcom should focus on SSF4 / SF5.
#16
good for you bruth. there is going to be alot of other games coming this year and your money is better spent else where. Dead or alike, persoul 4, skull girls, viral fighter, midnight bliss, and couple others are coming out this year which they all look pretty awesome. besides i bet T VS SF will be awhole lot better. they wont try to flud use with gimmiks and DLC. lol in fact Namco doesnt really do DLC unless its one costume pack. the only time they did a character was soul 5 and you could of got that character for for free(if you pre-order the game). im done also >__>
#31
I call schinanigans to that since demo cost resources and time away from main development. Get real this is capitalism
#32 didn't they do that for soul 4 for star wars too xd
just my opinion but I think that Capcom is only saying that there will never be another disc version of this game just so people will buy this game. But after maybe a year or so, we are gonna see another disc retail version of this game with everything DLC included plus maybe a few extra characters again, just like AE.
Plain and simple, I don't trust Capcom on this statement. you know there will be another disc, it's inevitable because people will always complain about balances, adding characters, stages and what not. Everything that they could think of. So inevitably, a disc release will be required as the DLC support will no longer be viable for future upgrades.
@16 and my fellow fans
I'm so glad to see the majority of the FGC pulling together to punish Capcom’s strategies.
Sven always sounds so pompous and arrogant in his responses. He strikes me as a business man; not a herald for loyal fans. He promises only one release of the game but in the same breath brands the product incomplete for lack of 12 playable characters and costumes. If the entire collection of DLC amounts to the same price as another full price game then it doesn’t matter how it’s piped to the fans – it’s still wrong.
SSFIV: AE has 39 characters and UMVC3 has 48 (2 more if you include the DLC characters you already paid for as they were already on the disc) I don’t feel unreasonable in expecting at least 50. Yet Capcom argue that it IS unreasonable to expect at least equal value from SFxTK. They show this by making you pay extra for the privilege of a roster worthy of the title.
My remarks are based on educated conjecture and forever hope to be proven wrong once the facts come to light next week.
*facepalm*
Svensson, demos are used promote games. They are meant to show people outside the target audience what the game could be like.
A demo might cost more than the revenue it generates. This is not the point - you are trying to create awareness of the game, which can translate into brand loyalty and future repeat sales (the good kind).
Not every game deserves a demo. A game that does is usually either a big market title, or is riding on the wave of a market that might change based on its own release.
Street Fighter cross Tekken is really good demo material, since a LOT of people are on the fence with this game. Generally in the game industry you have faith in the products you are making - aka, if Consumer Joe can get their hands on this game and play it, they'll want it.
If you don't have that faith, the sales aren't suddenly going to come out of nowhere afterward.
It saddens me to see that Capcom doesn't give a **** to those who bought the SSF4 3D...
Meanwhile, Tecmo is giving away free DLC costumes with automatic downloading in Dead or Alive Dimensions for 3DS.
maybe I'm ignorant to some "obvious thing", but is it really that beneficial to start up production (the key word) of potentially millions of disks to sell an update of a game vs just putting the data online? usually only fans go for updates so they always have worse sales than the original. Heck if you were late in getting SF X T and waited for a new disk to came out the original would probably be real easy to find used (capcom doesn't get money from used game sales) and then you could get the dlc if you wanted.
People are calling this game incomplete? The DLC age is hilarious. Characters come out later usually because they aren't finished in time for the release. Fans lose interest very often if the game doesn't come out on time. Not that I adore DLC, but lashing out and acting like you are a genius and everyone else is stupid stopped happening around me after high school
You have to remember it is a busines at the end of the day. Look how sports titles get yearly updates. The demo is not necessary and I understand why capcom don't bother with that.
Look carefully at the wording.. The only disc only release. There are going to be arcade edition style updates.. I'm ok with that as long as they release the disc and dlc at the same time..because I prefer to have the physical product, but for ae the disc release was delayed.
