East Coast Throwdown 4, MLG Anaheim and more - weekend tournament preview There are some excellent tournaments kicking off this weekend. To help prepare users for what's happening in the community, we've compiled a list of notable things for East Coast Throwdown 4, MLG Anaheim Spring Championship, South East Asia Major, and the Topanga B League.

We discuss top players who are attending, some of the favorites expected to win the events, provide a breakdown of the stream schedules and more.

Hit the jump to check everything out.

East Coast Throwdown 4

East Coast Throwdown 4

The run down: In Morristown, New Jersey, June 9-10, East Coast Throwdown 4 will take place. The UMvC3 tournament should be of very high interest, as it's attracting some of the best players around, and there's a $3,000 pot bonus, provided by One Frame Link. NetherRealm Studios is also throwing down with a $1,000 pot bonus for Mortal Kombat 9. ECT4 is being ran by John Gallagher and L.I. Joe.

Who's expected to show: AVM|GamerBee, EG|Justin Wong, coL.cc|Filipino Champ, FC|NYChrisG, EG|Ricky Ortiz, coL.cc|Combofiend, BT|IFC Yipes, CVPR|PR Balrog, UVG|Noel Brown, 86'd|Fanatiq, coL.cc|Mike Ross, among others.

Fanatiq vs. RayRay $2,000+ money match: A high stakes money match between Fanatiq and RayRay will take place here in UMvC3. This will be played on stage on Saturday night at 8 p.m. EDT.

Who to look out for: Filipino Champ has been putting in some great performances as of late, and he is considered by many to be the favorite to take home the UMvC3 tournament. ChrisG, Justin Wong and PR Balrog shouldn't be underestimated, though, as these guys are always a threat to win it all. Regardless, this should be one of the most competitive UMvC3 tournaments of the year, with multiple players vying for the top position.

Switching over to SSF4 AE v2012, GamerBee is flying in from Taiwan, but he'll have to face off against EG's Ricky Ortiz and Justin Wong to get top honors. Ricky just won the North West Majors 4 tournament, and looked very strong while doing so.

Streaming duties and schedule: Team Spooky, Kombat Network, Team St1ckbug and 8WayRun will be handling things, so you can expect multiple terrific live video feeds. A schedule of events is available here.

Check out this hype trailer put together for the event.

MLG Anaheim Spring Championship

MLG Anaheim Spring Championship

The run down: A total of almost $50,000 will be up for grabs across the Mortal Kombat 9, Soul Calibur 5 and King of Fighters 13 tournaments. Taking place in Anaheim, California, from June 8-10, MLG Anaheim will feature some great competitors.

Who's playing: MCZ|Tokido, IGL|Bala, vVv|CD Jr., vVv|REO, VSM|Maxster, Keev, Kayane and vVv|Romance, among others.

Who to look out for: Bala continues to put in dominant performances for King of Fighters 13, and is the favorite going into that tournament.

Fighter Arena champion Hawkeye will be back to defend his crown in Soul Calibur 5, but expect Keev to bounce back in strong fashion after placing 2nd in his past MLG appearance. Tokido is also flying in from Japan to try his hand out here.

In Mortal Kombat 9, vVv|CD Jr. has been on a great run for quite some time and is expected to once again win this tournament, but REO and Maxster will give chase.

Schedule: A home broadcast schedule for MK9, SC5 and KoF13 is available on MLG's website.

Where you can watch: Stream links will be up on MLG's home page, and we'll also have an embed of the videos here on the front page of EventHubs when the tournaments starts.

South East Asia Major

South East Asia Major

The run down: Taking place in Singapore from June 9-10, South East Asia Major is a Road to EVO 2012 event. It's being presented by Zhi and Xian of Cross Counter Asia.

Who's playing: MCZ|Daigo Umehara, DM|Xian and many other top players from the Singapore region.

Where can I watch: The stream will be hosted on Cross Counter Asia's TwitchTV page.

Each day the live video feed will start at 9 a.m. EDT / 1 p.m. GMT, Friday will be a casual stream, while Saturday and Sunday will be the tournament itself, with the finals taking place on the last day.

Topanga B League

Topanga B League

The run down: Starting June 8th and running every weekend through July 1, 2012, the 2nd Topanaga B League will take place over Xbox Live. It's a Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012 tournament.

Viper), Dashio (Seth), VER (Gouken), Ojisanboy (Abel), Juso (Sakura), Machabo (Fei Long), Juso (Sakura) and Machabo (Fei Long).

What's at stake: The top two players will be invited to the Topnaga A League, and the 3rd and 4th place finishers will participate in a playoff against MCZ|Tokido (Akuma) and Bonchan (Sagat), respectively, for the other spots.

There's prize money for the 1st through 4th place finishers.
1. 100,000 yen ($1,259 USD)
2. 50,000 yen ($629 USD)
3. 30,000 yen ($377 USD)
4. 10,000 yen ($125 USD)

Where and when to watch: This is a pay-per-view tournament, and Nico Video is running the stream for people at home once again. It's 300 yen per episode, or 1,500 yen for them all.

Friday and Saturday things kick off at 21:00 JST, 5 a.m. PDT and noon GMT.
Sunday it's 20:00 JST, 4 a.m. PDT and 11 a.m. GMT.

JWong is taking UMVC3. He's gearing up for EVO. No one can beat JWong when he's on his game.

@3 Justin doesn't have anything on FChamp now. Champ's Magneto, Doom and Phoenix are the best in the business and Justin hasn't put out any new tech for too long. He's running the same team of Wolv. Storm and Akuma which doesn't offer enough. Champ has got this.

Isn't MarlinPie gonna be at ECT? Everybody is riding FChamp, yet no mention of the man who perfected him at SS?

@ShadowKnight28

I assumed MarlinPie was going to be there, but I wasn't able to confirm it in time for the article, so I didn't include him. If he is attending, Marlin is going to be one of the top competitors for sure.

There's quite a few people who don't confirm in advance and do walk up registration, so that's how come I always try to say, "among others" when I'm talking about who will show up.

Im certain the UMVC3 finals will be PR ROG and Chris G. Now i say this with the most respect towards F.Champ (well as much as i can give, i really cant stand the dudes persona) as his team and recent tourney placings hold him up there but i usually see PR ROG doing him in on the FGTV stream and other then JWong, who has really ever beaten that blasted Chris G Morrigan team? If Marlin Pie shows up im sure he'll shake up the brackets a bit but the dudes a one trick pony. Good shizz for winning the very stacked Shadowloo tourney but what other majors has he won? (i said MAJORS as in where it counts, not the curly mustache or big two minors)

I can't say for certain who's going to be in the finals for a game like Marvel 3, especially on the east coast. The only thing certain in that game is X-Factor, hidden missiles and lots of soul fist.

MarlinPie and MastaCJ need to be on that player list for this article also. ECT will also have several streams going as well, and I will be there live watching it all go down and taking pics/video. Cannot wait.

scytheavatar said on June 7, 2012 at 8:45 p.m.

Quite surprised people are expecting much from Tokido..... IMHO he's an idiot for going to MLG over ECT. Had he gone to ECT he could have won AE free for a decent payout, but now he's probably going to be pwned hard in MLG. And before people go "LOL he's going to be paid more for finishing 7th in MLG than 1st in ECT" I hope you guys realize the payout for SCV and KOFXIII has been cut a lot compared to the winter championship. Tokido needs to finish 4th in KOFXIII and 7th in SCV to get 500 bucks each, and he has very little chance of achieving either.

jkuc316 said on June 7, 2012 at 8:53 p.m.

@scytheavatar MarkMan probably wanted him to go to MLG. And I don't think he would've won free, Gamerbee's there, and Justin,PR Rog(Beat him at FRXIV), Ricky, and Combofiend(If Tokido isn't experienced in the Oni matchup)

No Combofiend for MLG :( I thought CompLexity is an e-sports organization, why don't they send the only guy in coL.CC that plays a FG that is on MLG

@ #23

Tokido isn't just some Street Fighter player that's going for the money. He plays a ton of games consistently. I'm not saying he's going to take 1st easy but he definitely has potential to place top 3 or win.

#25
Default avatar
scytheavatar said on June 7, 2012 at 10 p.m.

@24 Even if he doesn't win he would have easily gotten top 3 in AE, and would have been favorite to get top 3 in other games too.

@25 He will get pwned, the top 4 of KOFXIII/SCV in SS was quite close and Tokido is significantly but not massively better than J Wong in both KOFXIII and SCV. While the gap between J Wong and the top SCV/KOFXIII players is huge. I think he might get top 8 in KOFXIII but there's no chance he'll get top 4, as for SCV nope he's not going to last long.

Maybe, just maybe, he wants to improve before EVO.
Better to find out now what you need to improve on than at EVO.
Going where the competition is at is the smart decision.

So,

like Marvel? Watch ECT.
like KOF, SC or MK? Watch MLG.
like SF4? Watch Topanga.
like Daigo? Watch SEA Major.

Every event will be hyped. Why watch only one?

@#14

Watch Northwest Majors 4 from last weekend, grand finals was Champ vs Rog, Champ won 3-1, 3-0 and made it look SO free, as good as Eduardo is. And only reason Champ was in losers was cuz he went Ghost Rider on Ricky LOL

I think Champ and Marlin Pie are probably the best players in America right now, without anyone really giving them much competition outside of a few lucky breaks from other top players.

@31 to be fair PR Rog and F Champ were playing the grand finals like it's a casual in FGTV, and you shouldn't read too much into it. There's some blatant pot splitting and disrespecting NWM going on. But yeah it's very hard to predict who will win ECT, entire tourney is stacked.

I don't know what I gonna do this week end since I have some college exams foe the next Week. I want to see both South East Asia Major and ECT 4.

I know I will main ECT4 for the hypest Umvc3 and main SEAM for SSF4: AE and SFxT( only to see how they play maybe we don't know how to play the game) I mean I saw Godgardens SFxT competition that Kazunoko Won, It was pretty hype.
