I want this game to be good, but so far every trailer ive seen has bored the crap out of me.

The music sucks, the announcer isn't exciting, the characters are seemingly all soulless shells of who they're supposed to be and the overall art style is boring.

Yes, i agree. I would like this game to be good too, but so far it seems very lackluster.

The sound effects make every attack seem weak as hell, and the sprites are too small and don't distinguish the characters enough against the backdrop.

Combine that with the terrible concept of knockouts by supers, and the whole thing just seems unappealing.

next two characters: Crash and Ratchet & Clank
...well i guess technically three, but you saw what they did with Jak & Daxter

Kind of predictable reveals. C'mon Sony, surprise me with Tomba or Sir Daniel Fortesque. Crash Bandicoot would be very nice too.

I have to agree with #8 and #12... I really want this game to happen, but the "realistic""graphics dont help, and some of the stages seem meh for me. game should be more cartoony imo since it goes better with this style of game.

also some stages are just plain bad for me.

This game is the stage fetus of god from darkstalkers. see fighterpedia in case you don't know why.

but the charm of smash was that everything in nintendo simply... was. Just animated. most of their games were in the same graphical and aesthetic wheelhouse. when you have a character from a game like uncharted or killzone, which tout their graphics fighting a parappa the rapper WHO NEEDS TO BE A PIECE OF FLAT PAPER, its gonna look and feel weird. i'm looking forward to this game still. but hell smash was weird at the time and sorta still is. being made with the other community players [in mind] is like two mac trucks circling each other in a destruction derby. no matter what, it's gonna be awesome

Playstation's history still goes a lot deeper than this current roster would suggest. Parappa desperately needs Crash to stand beside him, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Apparently Sony also owns rights to franchises such as Q-Bert, Wild Arms, Lemmings, MediEvil, and Alundra too. Heck, Jumping Flash was some of the most fun I ever had on my Playstation. Lotta gaming history still getting missed, even without Lara Croft.

And what, no Wipeout or Jet Moto stages yet?? Don't rush this too much Superbot.

Still waiting for UmJammer Lammy, and some Crash Bandicoot characters.

@21: Huh... I had no idea Sony owned the rights to some of those franchises. I'd love to see characters from Q-Bert, Wild Arms, and Lemmings, myself. Though, are you sure they own the IPs to those? Sometimes, being the publisher of the game doesn't necessarily mean you own the rights to the characters.

@22 Yeah, I had a hard time believing ones like Q-Bert myself, so I looked at a couple sources. Apparently the arrow still pointed back to Sony/Tri-Star. Sony's pretty big when you think about it.

Even if they don't have full exclusive rights to some of these IPs though, they're still halfway compared to any Final Fantasy characters, which we know are already in demand for the game.

I know for certain they own the rights for Lemmings. Not sure about Q-Bert, but I wouldn't be surprised.

There's so many characters I would absolutely love to see in this game, but I have to tell myself most of them probably won't make it. Crash, Spyro, Rayman, Croc, Ty, Sir Dan, Wild Dog, Klonoa, Tomba, Gex, Wander... the list goes on...

Spyro, Crash, and Ratchet & Clank would be nice to have but I'm surprised no one's mentioned a single character from Silent Hill. I'd be very glad to see Pyramid Head in the game.

It'd be pretty neat to see Snake from MGS in it as well, but I tend to think that Hideo, who has a very personal attachment to his character, would not want to put Snake in what's essentially a SSB clone.

I'm still surprised to see Heihachi in the game.

To try and set itself apart from Smash bros I think this game is focusing too much on "originality". Who cares? Every game is based off other games; that's why we have genres. Why change the formula if it isn't broken? I think the game is lacking a bit but I think the dev team still have time to fix a lot of things.

- Kill by supers: should not have been what the game mechanic revolved around. I'm sure game modes and game rules can be changed but it seems like this is the "only" way to kill off an enemy which makes the meta game very linear.

- Stages are too big and too longitudinal: No knockouts doesn't help either. In my opinion I feel like the stages are too long and if players wanted, they could just flee from one another and the whole game falls apart. Even though their are no knockouts, the stages should still crumble, alter, etc that enables the situation where players could fall off and die. The stages needs to be a bit more diverse in playstyle as well.

- Camera: The camera seems to be very zoomed out. I think the focus could be closer and should only zoom out when characters are far away. You could see this occurring in certain situations but most of the time the camera always seem too far away.

- Lack of combo chains: Since it's a bit more difficult to kill in this game the characters should be able to link longer combos compared to smash. This will allow players to build more meter and deliver more kills; perhaps shortening certain games. (That is assuming the game mode can be altered to kills instead of winning by kill decision based on a timer).

- Music: Could be better. But, you could see the team putting in a lot of effort in this department by bringing music all across the sony and third-party franchises. I think the main issue is with the action sounds and the overall mixing of background music, character sounds, and action sounds.

- Action animations: For some reason I'm just not loving the action sprites and how most of the specials for the characters are shaping up. It's hard to explain and maybe it's just me but I just don't like how most of the specials look. I played smash yesterday and analyzed that game and most characters don't have flashy animations either but the game just looks and feels complete. But, I do, however, love how the supers look; very diverse and flashy.

- HUD: The character portraits, character select screen and battle labels all look very plain and simple to me. I would love something a bit more defined; seems very bland at the moment.

I'm excited for the game like most of you are but I'm hoping for more surprises and changes in the future that will allow this game to be on par or exceed the smash series. A lot is riding on this game because it will determine if future smash bros - style fighters will be made on ps3 or Xbox.

Damn, I hate how a lot of these characters look out of place. Never mind the crappy gameplay, this on it's own is enough to turn me off from the game.
