lol funny show as always. So if I watched it right, gems gives more depth. So with time, post release of the game, the DLC gems will add even more depth to the game!

So the more money you have, the more depth the game you will experience! The more gems, the more options, the more depth of the game you will experience ..essentially the more advantage. Thanks Gootecks and Mike Ross for clarifying it for everyone.

Now I question myself, is this a fighting game or one of those role playing games online where you buy items to keep ahead of everyone?

This game will definitely let they're show run smoother and be funnier because of the 2 on 2 tag team. No more passing the stick after the other is done, it'll be interesting to watch their team chemistry get better.

Thats why I don't get all the hate people are throwing at this game. So many different mechanics and depth in this game it's ridiculous. To those that say they're gonna skip this game, I'm sure you'll change your mind after you see everyone else enjoying the game so much.

I really think these guys are missing the point. Reasonable people will have NO problem with the GEMS.

They are a game mechanic like any other. Groove, Focus, Parry .... Whatever!

There are two points that need to be made, and they've misses the boar on both of them.

1) Paying for attributes is fundamentally WRONG and helps to set a NEW (terrible) standard for DLC in games! Cosmetic = Win..... Core Gameplay = Really Bad!

2) Fine, the support Gems are for beginners. But button mapped combos, Auto block and Auto Tech are just taking a step too far. On top of that they've offered no option to filter out opponents using Tool assisted combos. Add a good tutorial and teach the how to Fish, not just how to eat Fish! Because those Training wheels are never coming off.

I can't believe that as innovative as Mike and Gootecks have been in our community they can't see that some concers are reasonable. Based on their impressions I'd say they think anyone with concerns about the game must be Whiney Nerds? Weird.

I think these dudes are simply blinded by stardom. They used to be regular Joes. Now Capcom invites them to Special Screenings of the game on a show about the game. Wtf do you think they're going to say?! No doubt they love it.

Mike Ross said it was "The Best SF game he'd EVER played" 6 months ago! Nothing can shake these guys opinions.

I'm buying the game. I have some level of confidence it'll be good. But to act like our concerns aren't valid, or we're Nerdy if we care? Mike and Goo lost some respect points on this one IMO.

Peace.

Hey, its time to just ignore capcom and let them do what they do. if you dont like the game then dont buy it, stick with SSF4AE which will be around for years to come. Yes Gem gives annoying advantage and can be ridiculous but I dont understand the gem idea, it will have been better to have the player customize defence, attack, speed and agility pre match instead of Gem bull crap, but capcom is making their choice and as long as we are not forced to buy the game then we should just watch them

Some of you guys are too funny. So there's an issue to paying for gems because your paying extra to having an advantage right? Yet you very same people are fine with re-releases that you have to pay extra money to even play online! At least those people who don't pay can still have fun. Some times people can't think straight.
And things like auto combos require meter so It's not a big deal.

Right. So instead of gems that come with set and timed bonuses, you'd rather it so that someone can set their attack power astronomically high and literally OHKO you throughout the entire match.

People, leave the game design to Capcom. They've been making fighting games since the late 80's. They know what they're doing.

I guess that's hopeful thinking on your part. I play "simple controls" on iPhone because of the Virtual Pad (I don't like it) and you'd be surprised at the amount of BS I can pull off.

The FG community cannot even accept Tool Assisted Combo Videos, and now they're ready to accept tool assisted gameplay?

Threat or Not, it's just stupid $hit IMO. Guess we disagree.

Btw, I'm not worried about losing to anyone, "Tool assisted" or otherwise. The idea is offensive.

You play COD? I guess I should get Auto Aim because I'm not good at aiming my gun? How Effin lame would that be? Maybe if I had half the Ammo it'd be ok? Nope! Because I'd just figure out a way around it. Like re-supply. Pick up a different gun?

And tool-assisted combo videos are accepted all the damn time. Hop off of your high horse, take off your tinfoil hat, and calm down.

I don't know man, your thinking has got me going in circles. I was praising him for seeing through a line of BS.

What frustrates me is the the "Pro" community seems to think we're all a bunch of mindless nerds that are afraid to lose matches to Gems and Auto Combos!

But there is a deeper issue. Paying for a Gem Boost Jump today could mean paying for Whatever tomorrow!

Shirts and Pants are ok! I have a boat load of money and I'm ready to spend it ALL on COSMETIC DLC! But NOT gameplay DLC!

Maybe Gems are minor. Maybe we set the standard today and the next 'Not so minor' DLC won't happen. But they should at least address the concern instead of missing the point entirely!

Sol good anyway. Game looks fun. That's what counts at the end of the day I guess... I'm pooped on these issues.

Unlike everyone else, I hated this game the moment it was announced and still do. People just don't know what this game is doing to the genre over all, even before the gems.
This game, at this time is just fundamentally wrong. Capcom's killing everything else that isn't Street Fighter or Capcom VS. They even ruin the renaissance for their rivals.

Mark my words. The decline of the genre officially starts with the release of this game. The next Street Fighter and Capcom VS God Knows What immediately after this, will send us back to the dark ages. Those who pay attention to the bigger picture know what I'm talking about.

Yes of course. Paying for extra gem gives you an advantage. That makes perfect sense.

Except no. The gems are meant to be balanced. The pay ones are necessarily better. It's like complaining that Jill is pay DLC in MvC. Get her if you want to play with her, she's not broken, just another character. Same with the more exotic DLC.

As for people STILL complaining about autoblock and autotech... are you guys idiots? Did you not watch the Cross Counter video? It COSTS METER to autoblock. That's a complete waste of meter, it's a pointless gem.

#70
armcameron's avatar
armcameron said on January 28, 2012 at 5:33 p.m.

Just want to point out that the pre-order gems are NOT THAT GOOD.
They are slight variations on the pre existing gems, with different usage conditions. The only ones that are different are the ones with 2 effects, which cost 2 gem slots instead of 1.
Not a single one of these gems are game breaking, and the only gems that have any power either have negatives, such as the Iron Wall Lv.2: Defense Up +20% Attack Down -10%, or require the use of Pandora, such as Divine Speed Lv.3. (Neither example are pre-order gems, just easy examples to use).
All this crazy talk about paying to win is bull crap. All the pre-order (which will end up as dlc gems) aren't unbalanced, and are only there to give people options in how they use gems. You will not be disadvantaged by not getting these gems and people who own these gems have no advantage over you.

#71
jesuslovessatan's avatar
jesuslovessatan said on January 28, 2012 at 5:35 p.m.

a couple questions come to mind when reading some of these comments

1. Concerning the "Pros" endorsement of the current game being completely awesome, i dont see who else (if not a professional player familiar with the basics of fighting games in general) can tell you how good the game is. Scrubs points are invalid, "Pros" are getting paid by capcom, etc. Have you considered the thought that maybe you wont get a satisfying answer unless its your own once you've played?

2. Concerning the argument of OP/abusable gems. The cost of meter and health is actually a big exchange for an Auto-Block. Really think about that. Understood that maybe you're
DESK or Daigo and dont need meter to win. But 99% of the community that has an actual competitive chance in a tourney
know the value of meter and how easy a block/tech throw is. The trade off is not worth it.

I know asking for serious responses on the information super
highway is dead upon entry but im just wondering. lil ol me.

I'm paying attention and I see it too. They are releasing too many of same fighters from the same franchise too fast. Even TVC and MVC have a lot of Street Fighters in it.

There's just so much Versus trash and Street Fighter rehashes that not even those IPs will continue to pull in the numbers after a while. Just look at MVC3. When they finally do try to work with other fighter,s it'll already be too late.

I agree that Capcom has squandered their second chance, but I actually think the decline has already started. It began with AE and continued with UMVC3. The poor sales figures of the latter is a reflection of this. They've gone back to their old ways (endless revisions and recycled content) and they're definitely feeling the pain.

Okay, all these guys were talking about when they were talking about the "scrubs" complaining were the ones that were specifically talking about how things like auto-block and auto-tech could break the game, and there were PLENTY of people that were dumb enough to think so. They didn't even touch on the pricing of gems.

@16
Why wouldn't the "training wheels" come off? Do you really think that when someone feels more confident with teching or blocking or whatever else, that they wouldn't ditch those gems to get their full combo and damage potential and meter?

See, the thing is that Capcom is thinking about their future viability, and that requires having new players come aboard. Alot of you really need to step back and put yourselves in the place of a new gamer. Many of us learned the basics back in SF2. People like to say SF4 is a newbie game with things like easier inputs, but the fact is that SF4 is incredibly complex when you are coming in fresh, because you are having to learn the basic fundamentals that many of you have been practicing for years, along with all of the complex systems that have been implemented over the years.

I find it ironic that some of you want to be able to filter out gems and have stated it by using those assist gems as examples. If anything, i would think the new players having to rely on thoese assist gems would be the ones wanting the filter. How do you think a person with auto block losing meter and having less damage is going to feel going up against a novice player with speed and meter boosts with heavier damage? It's like the equivalent of fighting shin bison in arcade mode lol.

I don't know. I'm looking forward to the game alot. I used to be a yugioh player lol, and i love the idea of customization which is what the gems remind me of. The gameplay seems easily accessible with alot of possibility. It's going to be a great game.

So when Capcom says the gems will be good... They are lying to you.. But when someone else says it... They are being paid to? Makes me wonder if the people who hate the game are being paid by Namco <3

In all seriousness... Good or bad... March will be interesting.

so much butthurt in every damn post about this game. f--kin hilarious cause every single person complaining is buying the game anyway.

of all the gems to whine about you morons are whining about auto-combos and blocking that take meter? pure trolling. anyone who uses those gems is an ass player and you know it. theyre completely pointless. those who are complaining about ultra-fast giefs at least have a point, but im at least willing to try it before bitching about it.

and you jokers seriously think mike and ryan are getting kickbacks from capcom just to say they like the game? get real.

Although I don't share the concerns a lot of these posters have, I do understand them. I also understand them to want people to agree with them, but it's a bit sad when Mike Ross & Gootecks say they like the game to accuse them of being on Capcom's payroll.

Is it so far fetched that they actually like the game that you don't? Obviously, they also have more hands-on time with the game than most of us, so I feel they are in a better position to judge it.

You guys b1tch and moan about the gems as if that's the only thing to this game, which is not the case. Why not be happy you have another game to choose from, regardless whether you buy it or not?

And if you don't buy this game, there will be so many others to enjoy: Skullgirls, SC5, TTT, KOFXIII, TXSF, just take your pick.

Real Talk.

You guys can call me an idiot now cause we do this s--t for free. Capcom hasn't given us a dime. But I vouch like crazy for this game.

Ask Kensou from planet zero, we talked about it in the car when he picked me up from the airport. This game is amazing."

Mike and I had a healthy discussion about the creativity that's presented in the game and we both agree the game will be quite interesting as it develops. It's very easy to speculate and complain about things that we don't understand but it will be a great game for sure when it drops. The game really is amazing just be patient ^_^

If people can grow to accept X-Factor then I'm sure this game's system will grow on people too. If not, well...can't please'em all right?
