Capcom Europe's David Hinds has gone on record to confirm that Street Fighter X Tekken will feature the ability to configure your buttons from the character select screen.I can officially announce that you can set your button configuration from the character select screen in SFxT!
There's also a nice feature you can turn on that only allows the pause function to occur once the start button is held down.
This will stop a lot of accidental pausing during tournament games for those who don't have the option of locking their controller.
Just to clarify, with this feature enabled, tapping start will not pause the game. Only when you hold it down will it interrupt the game.

Is button config the US way of just pressing the button you want (HD Remix) or the Japanese (completely retarded) way of selecting from a list? (SF4)
Now those people who where complaining about the tournament matches taking to long to begin can put that argument to rest. We can set the gems and button config. from the character select screen, much less time then going into a match then checking the buttons.
this is great, small things like this help things go more smoothly in a tournament setting. this should also help with how long gem selection will hold up a tournament because you no longer have to wait as long for them.
I guess the new pause function would be useful for a standard controller, but not much use out of it when using a stick.
@3 I actually like the japanese way better, each to their own though. Also whilst this is not a problem for me it is for my brother and friends on pad,but this "japanese" way allows to map multi functions to buttons e.g. two punches in marvel (fantiq-esque). I remember when marvel 2 was released on psn and all of my friends brought it, we was so hyped for it but only to find out it was "the american" way, and only me and a friend every played it more than the day it came out due to us being only allowed to play it how we use to. MVC2 could have been 10x better imo if they allow controller players to bridge the gaps of their limitations
@9 Their faces are awful, even when in match, their faces look horrible and rushed, pauls looks stretched, even looks something from ps2 era. The sad/funny thing is the rest of the tekken are perfectly adapted from tekken
They added button config, but can you check your buttons there? The point of button check isn't just to make sure they're set right but to make sure you're stick/controller is functioning properly.
That "button setup" on the character screen should be implemented in all capcom games now, it was really convenient in 3rd strike online!
Im just wondering....I remember Capcom saying that they will have a 4-button layout for like the Tekken players? Correct me if Im wrong tho, im just trying to remember....
Looks like CapcomJs taking tips from Skull Girls with the holding down of the pause button to pause a game. Even though there's no such thing as "accidentally" pausing the game. Unless you have it set to a face button like an idiot, there's no way you can press it during normal play. ITS ON THE CENTER OF THE CONTROLLER. No other important buttons are there to make you press it, they're all on the sides.
As for the control changing during character select. That shoul be in every game from now on, that way streams don't waste time with button checks.
#21 lol
Skullgirls already showing leadership in the FGC.
How is Capcom taking notes from Skullgirls when 3SO had the feature first?
Some of you need to think before you troll.....I mean, speak.
Now thats great! Was about time, Capcom seems to make it right here!
I just hope they make chains/cross-rush cancelable into regular specials again. Lets the chars be more unique, not just battle of chain buffers in footsies > launcher all the time.
Skull Girls announced that @ EVO
Then it comes out in SFxTekken
TY 2 Capcom for that. It's should be in EVERY fighting game in the future!
BTW that is NOT in SF3oe!
@#3 Its not the "US" way. the first game to ever use that style was SF2 championship edition on the SNES made by CAPCOM! Sirlin copied that style when he made HDR. The reason the other style was made was so that people could macro buttons to throw or hp+hk, ect when Alpha came out on the PS1. Get your facts straight.
lol #29, ignore NoizyCHILD, the child has no idea what hes talking about.
Ok people:
Boot up 3SO
Go to Training, Arcade, or local multiplayer. (Not sure about online)
PRESS SELECT.
Proceed to laugh at #29 and #31.
Thank you.
Pretty sure you can button check in game in most fighting games. Good try though.
#10 i never accidentaly pushed the pause button on my controller, but it happened that my stick slipped down a little and the pause button got pressed by going against the back of a chair, or if i have it on my legs and i put my legs up to be more comfortable there are times when the match gets heated and it gets pushed because it tilts and my leg presses the button. But how would it happen on a controller? there you really have to be mashing.
dont bring a broken controller to a tourny then if your worried about button checking. Like its so difficult to press a button to see if it works like in a menu or something.
@ 29: What's not is 3S0E? The ability to change buttons during character select, or pressing and holding pause to actually stop game play? I hope you mean the latter - if not, you need to go to 3SOE's character select screen right now so you can feel stupid!
I think pressing and holiding start for a pause is pretty dumb. Much like you guys have said, no one really accidentally presses pause unless they're mashing - or if you're like me, and pause after getting caught/catching someone in an ultra in SSF4. Thinking it's a cutscene that you can stop by pressing start...
Come to think of it, maybe this ain't a bad idea, as SFxT's ultra animations look just as boring and over-dramatic as SF4's.
@5 guess you didn't realize they're made from the same company.
Surprised to see no one complaining over positive changes.
@36 Those so-called boring cut-scenes draw more casual fans to buy the game and at the end of the day the hardcore crowd just doesn't cut it sales wise.
It's easy to hit the start button if you have big hands like me and have to adjust constantly. Controller dropping on the buttons or someone brushing againts it. Acting like it does'nt happen or your some cluts is ignorant. Even Pros hit the start accidentally.
It does'nt matter how you feel about it the more harder you make it to interrupt a game, the less chance you have of suffering a penalty at a tournament. Even if it's a casual, nothing like someone hitting stat in the middle of your combo.
And I want to go on record and say the button configuration at character select and the hold start was not Capcom or Skull girls idea, it was the FGC's idea who have been pushing for these features since like forever. So the way I see it, everyone wins, now stop the fanboyish bull crap and move along.
I have no clue why people would say that holding the button to pause is "dumb" or otherwise negative. Some sticks have the start button feature prominently next to the play buttons. For example, an out of the box Qanba has the start button next to the "in line" buttons. So there is a chance your hand could brush the button and for those of you who have never used a stick with Sanwa buttons they are SENSITIVE. A strong breeze could damn near activate.
Also, people sometimes have odd urges to press certain buttons. It may not happen all the time but it can happen. I have a Madcatz TE so the start button is near impossible to accidentally hit while playing but I know I've simply just pressed it before. No idea why or how but I did it. And I've seen a lot of other people do the same thing.
It just happens. Not often, but it does. And holding the start button to pause is a great way to avoid those situations or things that could screw up an otherwise amazing match. Nobody likes being penalized and think of the guy they are playing against...most of the time it's up to them whether or not they want the free round. If they take it some will say they are a jerk and if he lets it go others will say he's stupid.
It simply avoids all kinds of issues.
lol you guys will make the most random arguments out of the most random topics.
@18 Most arcade sticks have the start button far away from the face buttons. Hence why I didn't feel the need to talk about them.
#38, People dont complain when things are done right.
@38:
I know exactly why they went all dramatic with ultra animations and what not. But guess what? They're still boring.
Im not as hype for this game as i once was...but there is no possible way that im going to be able to watch this on stream and not get hyped to see high level play from the japanese and americans. So im gonna end up buying it anyway because i love fighting games like that lol
@41 I completely agree whit you. Im a experienced tournament player and there been a lot of times when i had that exact same scenario happen to me and others even whit madcatz TE sticks, mutiple times in a row. I think its great way to expose ppl that does what #36 do in tournaments just to tick off their opponents so they lose their focus and momentum of the match.
thats kool. i like to press start when someone is hit with
seths ultra 1...takes so long and stupid.
but seth isnt even in sfxtkn...so oh well (:
ChrisG dislikes the "pause on hold" function.
