Harada was answering fan questions on Twitter and being his usual self when he started dropping more hints about the direction that Tekken X Street Fighter could go.
What you thinking about fighting system for TxSF? Is it going to be tag-team only, like SFxTK? - GreatKungLao
Harada: Considering 1 vs 1.
Will Street Fighter characters run on a 6 button or 4 button control scheme? - WingedAngelPit
Harada: I'll test 6 button system.
What would you like to see from Tekken X Street Fighter when it comes to gameplay systems and their respective configurations?
Tip submitted by Goodbye18000 who asked the question about buttons.
He's so straightforward, you gotta respect Harada for that.
I think they should keep the 4 button layout. 2on2 tag team like TTT2 maybe, seeing it's a crossover title. wouldn't mind 1on1 tho, as I like that even more.
What I'd like to see are 'special' moves tho along with cacnable pokes. keep the rest from tekken (minus ground bounce combos... sh!t is tedious to endure).
because people don't ask him what characters are in when they know full well Ono/Seth can't answer that? I'll bet money that Harada won't be some generous with the info once they get to character reveals.
Harada is pretty direct with his answers, like the polar opposite of Ono. A few people have pointed this out already, but it was the first thing I thought about after reading. You're still cool though, Ono.
I think SFxT is too bold. They should of made it a street fighter game with also a tekken cast and juggling elements that both could use (a.k.a the build before all the crap). Now with Pandora and gems, the quality has definitely degraded from build to build. I'm hopeful, but not optimistic.
I would rather have it be optional for both 1v1 and tag as having a cross over title with just a single bout fight seems kind of boring. My biggest question would have to be how much at a disadvantage some of the SF cast who use projectiles would be since the game won't be a 2D fighter. In SFxT the Tekken characters seemed to have the answer as they can wave dash.
I actually see fireballs not being useful outside of juggles and combos in tekken. a side step completely destroys zoning so i can see Ryu doing a juggle, a small combo, and a hadouken to finish it. Not so sure about just firing one across screen though lol
well yall can talk about Ono as much as you like, but who do you think will have the better game? I'm pretty sure Capcom's version will sell more copies just because its a Capcom style game. Tekken is fun and all, but it doesn't compare to SF in my opinion
I think it should depend on the mechanics of the game whether or not it should be 4 or 6 buttons layout. We should wait until we see some footage to decide what works in this iteration.
I'm just interested in seeing how Namco is going to incorporate Capcom's signature character specials into the game.
Guys, he's direct with his answers because these are simple questions. You have to realize what people are asking him to begin with. And even then, they usually boil down to "I'll consider it" "I'll test it" or "I'll think about it". He definitely has a more proper and formal approach then that goofball Ono but I wouldn't get too excited about squeezing info out of him once TxSF actually starts rolling.
When the game actually starts going through full-time development, Harada will have to start ducking questions like "IS BRYAN GONNA BE IN THE GAME? TELL ME PLZ" just like Ono, Seth, Niitsuma, and Daishi & Tago (Soul Calibur's head dev and producer, respectively) currently do. Because some questions they can't answer.
They should come up with a system that rewarded skill, not mashing. Some 1 frame link combos in SFIV do less damage than the basic jump in > shoryuken.
Specials should do more damage when used after 1 or 2 links.
Simple srk 50% damage / 1 link, srk 80% damage / 2 links, srk 100% damage (or something like that).
I hope they get real creative and give the Street Fighter characters a lot of moves akin to tekken characters (which are kinda like target combos i suppose) I dunno about fireballs, it seems a risky business but I'll wait and see what they come up with.
Nah, I prefer the 4-Button system for that. But it wouldn't hurt to try the 6-Button system.
(I'd like to see more Tekken interpretations of SF chars, that unique, more realistic look.
I'd also not like to see Tekken 6's Bob V Bob...ugh. I don't play but that was painful to watch.
PS: Tekken is like soccer and SF is like (American) Football - Tekken does better worldwide/overall, football does well in the states)
- I wish MvC3 went back to the E3 build (TvC was/is better).
- Crossover titles do not need to have tag modes (CvS/SvC).
- TxSF does not need 6 buttons for the SF cast, it would be cute, though.
- Harada and Ono are both cool. But don't think Harada will just reveal rosters on demand. Use your head.
Tag Team is much better for a crossover game. 1v1 sounds kind of bland and too ordinary. But there should be an option for both not just one.
So far what I'm hearing. SFxT sounds like it's going to be more fun than TxSF, because it has more going for it and something new-that involves more players. TxSF sounds like it's going to look better graphically and play exactly like Tekken with stiff controls and some sluggish movement. The game would suit HARDCORE Tekken fans more than HARDCORE SF fans.
It would probably have a Tekken force feature that SFXT doesn't have, offering something different.
@ #14
How about you learn something about Tekken characters, instead of spitting nonsense?
Characters' storyline is actually way more developed in Tekken than in Street Fighter, SF4 is bad it stink, story wise.
Sure that doesn't matter in competitive play, but when you're talking about story and characterization, Tekken is way ahead.
1 vs 1 with 4 attack buttons please. More Tekkenish, that's what I'd like to see with this game (since we are getting a Street Fighterish game with SFxT).
@ I_hate_u
you can't really compare Tekken and Street Fighter because they are to two different types of games. One is in 3D and the other is in 2D. if any one wants to say "well they both are fighting games" i would say "if that's so then WWE OUT SOLD Tekken and Street Fighter.
Harada:So ono-san how are vthe tekken characters fitting in with the the sf cast
Ono:They always exist somewhere and and any time teeheee ;p
Harada: OOOk..... so will you be adding any of sf alpha characters to the cast, such as karin or R. mika
Ono: they no answer call when i, might soon be in time heehee ;p
Harada:What?!! anyway good luck with that.
Ono: tee hee ;p
Harada:whatever *phuckin retard*
Well people are jumping the gun too soon... He said he is considering 1v1. That does not rule out that he may go with 2v2. Besides the very first Tekken Tag had both 2v2 and 1v1 so I know it is not impossible for Harada to do. As for button layout that will be a bit of a challenge since Tekken up to this point (SFxT and that crappy genesis port of Virtua Fighter vs Tekken) has not used any other layout other than four. As for why they have not asked about characters is because it is only on paper right now. When SFxT was announced.. I may be wrong but I think Ono showed everyone the prototype and it had four characters off the bat. Harada's version so far only has a proto Ryu that is not even playable. They also have the Jin and Ryu promo poster but nothing more. And he also said that he will not start production until the results of sales for SFxT. So it anyone actually wants to see how Namco will make this game, you know what you have to do.. Like it or hate it.. Buy SFxT and its gems.
Ahhh here's your precious Virtua Fighter at it's best?

Kind of annoyed by everyone claiming Harada is the only one doing fan service and slamming Ono. Capcom did a great job converting the Tekken characters into the 2D realm and added a crap load of risky new features to the game to boot. They also really know how to market the game, make it seem appealing to newcomers and they even got a reality show coming up soon for the game. In the meantime we got characters like Hugo, Poison and Rolento who where MUCH requested and if rumors of Elena making the cut is true then between this game and SSFIV AE we got most of the requested characters (and R.Mika isnt in it even though Ono wanted her).
In the meantime Harada is pretty much being quite sober over this. It will be difficult to implement SF gameplay into the TEKKEN world, yes, but if the EX games worked enough then i am sure this can as well. And i am also betting that TXSF will use many character models from Tekken 6 and maybe TAG 2 if we are lucky. So again, i dont get why ppl are disrespecting Capcom and Ono after they gave us the glorious SF IV series, SF 3rd Strike O.E., UMVC3, SSF2T HDR and and now SF X T which, according to some of the worlds best fighting game players, it is supposed to be the best SF game ever
@ 58
What worlds best fighting game players say that SFxT is the best SF game ever? Best game for newcomers perhaps with those easy inputs, gems and other crap. It's not even a serious game. It's a party game and it probably ain't gonna live for a long time long. How can that game be the best SF game ever.
I hope TxSF is gonna be serious. I might buy that one, although it's 3D.
@47
Regardless, Tekken is the best selling fighting game franchise of all time which means its the best selling 3d fighter. SF is the second best selling fighter game franchise of all time, which means its the best selling 2D fighter.
Street Fighter is more popular than Tekken in North America but in the rest of the world, Tekken has the upper hand in both console and arcade sales
Street Fighter X Tekken is basically SF4 meets Tekken Tag. That's why it's 2-on-2. I'll be happy if Tekken x Street Fighter will be 1-on-1 instead of teams. I don't care how many buttons there are. I started as a Street Fighter fan and after trying Tekken, I'm more of a Tekken fan now since their moves are more "realistic" and they have alternate costumes for each character instead of color swaps. I'm looking forward to Tekken x Street Fighter. Too bad it won't be for the PS3. Maybe PS4? :)
What's up with all this tekken sales more than SF crap? Who cares? SF paved the way for competitive fighting games period! So hold that!
@18 yep, you might be correct but we all know the ones who buy SFxT will be wasteing their money because Super SFxT will arrive 8 months later at a retail price of $39.99. with 4-10 new characters and new stages. because when it comes to fighting games Capcom is known for giving fans incomplete versions.
