Maximilian had this to say about the latest episode of his Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Online Warrior series.
I recently ran into awkward amount of Spider-Man teams online, and it had me thinking. What is it that makes characters popular, and why is it Spencer is chosen more than Spider-Man? We discuss this and get into some ranked online games in this episode.
Tip from Assassin4than.
What makes a character popular? Usefulness.
What makes people expand their horizon and learn that other character's are just as fun, if not better than said "useful" character? Too many other's using their once beloved "useful" character.
Yea I know exactly why... One word.. "Xero18" he has been putting out tutorials instead of keeping his technology secret.
Max, if you're reading this...
You can escape the UWT resets most of the time by just throwing out a light punch while you're teching forward...
I don't know why I just told people that...
I have to agree with max when he said that spencer is better than spidey. I've been using the webhead since vanilla and I can honestly say that whatever spidey can do, spencer can do twice better. Zip around screen? spencer can do it and with immediate movement versus spidey's slight beginning animation before he zips. OTG? spencer had it before spidey. 60-70% solo combo? Spencer can do it with less difficulty. Good hyper? BIONIC AAAARRRMMM!!!
Long story short. Spencer is just a more solid version of spiderman. Spidey has to rely on a lot of gimmicks. If you know them, then he's basically done. I can list more things on why spencer is better, but I think you get the idea.
Max, love your videos (long ago subscribed)~ but, that ain't "Ultimate Spider-Man" costume, that is the Scarlet Spider (aka Ben Reilly) outfit! ~ don't tell me you don't have a Marvel zombie/fan that can help you out next time *wink wink*
Am I right so say that when you wanna get out of that you just neutral tech? My friend who plays Hulk, Haggar, Phoenix always tries to get me in that Haggar unblockable but when I neutral tech it doesn't work. I would think it would be the same for She-Hulk and Spider-Man correct?
For those who are interested...
There is a way out of the Spiderman Ultimate Web Throw set-up. Combofiend exposed my Spiderman set-up by tech forward and air-grab with Spencer. It was the death to the Spidey... of course, air grabs by Combofiend are deadly.
Another way is to air-dash up or up back
Lastly, reserved for a few characters. Teleport out of there.
The problem with all of these is that a well timed Ultimate Web Throw is near to impossible to get out of. Still... if you're Combofiend, it's just a walk on the park.
Everyone can actually escape UWT by forward teching. I'm actually going to make a video demonstrating all escapes for the Capcom side while Airborne makes one for the Marvel side. That way more Spidey players will actually look into his tech as opposed to running to the gimmick.
@9
He said "alternate costume" not "ultimate costume".
Oh please. I've been using Spidey since day one. On every first team. I can run him at point assist or anchor. Great character!
Spidey isn't my type of character and he definitely comes across as a more manual labor, less safe version of Spencer. Doing anything of substance with Spidey is hard for me and seems to require a lot more precise timing. Spencer can pretty much do whatever the hell he wants, has easier execution, and hits like a truck. Very few characters can punish him.
I'm surprised more people at the top level don't have Spencer teams. If someone like Justin decided to put together a Zero, Doom (or Wesker in the second spot), and Spencer team, they might as well just cancel EVO every year and hand the check right over.
Hmm?
High Damage + No Effort
High Damage + Tons of effort
Which would most choose?

Spencer's not Wesker. Spiderman's good, it's just that his strengths are so specific and he has a lot of weaknesses. Spencer is an all around good character. You can put him on any team and he's solid. Other characters can do the same thing, like Taskmaster. The only way Spiderman can be effective is if you revolve your entire team around him.
Spidey is awesome! :)))))))
